I was replying to a post about Vortex warranty, saying "they" just honored their warranty for me on a Vortex Viper, no questions asked. Ppl should know what a great warranty they have. I'm performing apublic service here.

How could ANYONE think I was saying Leupold warranteed a Vortex product? I need to spell out it was Vortex who warranteed a Vortex product?

I'm just getting into long range shooting and the high end scope world, but I'm not new to hunting or shooting. I have two Vari-X III Leupolds and have never had a problem with them. They have both been on my 7mm RUM and have taken the abuse well (had a black one and switched to a silver one to match my 700 Sendero). Maybe they're hit or miss but I wouldn't hesitate to get another. Just my .02 FWIW

As stated above, Leupold is hated on this site. It will always be this way. The same way Nightforce and Vortex can do no wrong. I think Leupold makes some very solid products. This is why I will continue to buy them.

Enjoy your scope no matter what brand it is. Just remember every brand scope will break eventually.

I mean I've shot everything from 50 rimfire to 1,000 benchrest, but I could have missed something along the way over the last fifty years or so... Feel free to spread enlightenment.

Sorry, not to start a bar fight here but Vortex has the best customer service in the industry. They just helped me replace a scope that was destroyed by MY FAULT, for no charge. A two year old scope. No questions asked. I'm buying them a round of drinks at SHOT next year.

Not being especially rich any new scope has to be carefully considered in terms of performance and price, does it perform its intended function and is it in a price range I want. Well, there is another consideration, will the company be around ten or twenty years from now (which is about as far as I figure I've got left).

Just saw that March is shutting down and dumping its inventory. Really good scopes but now orphaned. I remember Premier Reticle was a really good scope, pricey and now orphaned. I've got a couple of old Redfields from say forty years back, good scopes at the time but orphaned. Yeah the nameplate is back for sales purposes but it's a different company. B&L, well at east the name went away but they were basically the high end Bushnells so at least the parent company is still active.

So I'm seeing a few new companies with high end optics with high end prices and just have to wonder how long they will be around since there really isn't a repair company I know of that will handle orphans if repair is needed. I'll grant a good scope should last a lifetime barring beating it to death.

And so I stick to companies that have been around and feel fairly assured they will stay around. YMMV.

So, Shiraz Balolia is calling it quits, thus currently no US importer/distributor for March scopes in the US, meaning for the time being at least, orphaned in the US. This may or may not change. Keep in mind there never would have been March scopes without Shiraz in the first place. He and a few others wanted a better bench rest scope and after the European scope makers wouldn't/couldn't do what they wanted, they went to Deon in Japan to develop what they wanted. Spent their own money to get it started.

I got no dog in this pony show but, as I understand it-

Lou Murdica was the guy who put his money where his mouth is to get the March scopes into production. Kelbly's was the original distributor. When they got out of it, Shiraz stepped up and took it over.

The "Made in the USA" was removed from the scopes and the boxes due to the fact that there were other U.S. companies that manufacture their products here in the U.S. (that were proudly branded "Made in the USA") were sued by the State of California because, some of the components used in their manufactured products were produced off shore. So, Leupold made the decision to remove the verbiage from the products to prevent potential law suits. What a society we live in...

Leave it to California to jack things up. Another proud moment for California residents.

I can’t tell you how often I see Leupold recommended solely because “they are made in the USA” in various gun groups...it may not mean much to you, but it does to MANY people who don’t know any better.

Personally, it makes no difference to me. I have scopes from all over the globe...I’ll buy whatever works.

Had many a 2.5x8x36 with the tree rets installed an never had issue with any targets w/in the capability of the weapon. Most dog piles are via bottom feeders looking to please the lead dog.

Your post did send me on a Google search re: any FTC ban of "Made In USA" by Leupold. Can't find that specifically. Several sources said Loop uses Japanese / Asian glass, and the Loop decided to dump "Made in USA" to avoid lawsuits due to FTC's rules about "major components" needing to be 100% US sourced.... or some such thing.

I've got a 42x Competition Leup that works great but seems cloudy ... at least compared to my MK6 glass. Maybe I'll test Leups warranty claims.

Had a 6.5X20 Mk 4 that went back 3 times, but after I pointed out the issue to their head of CS/QC he shot it an when it returned the next time it was perfect. One of Leupolds issues is do to the amount of scopes they sell, the bulk that come back have nothing wrong with them, it's totally something else but the shooter has no clue on how to get to the root issue. I've had all my Leupolds changed to the tree rets an have no plans of ever using anything else. They are the perfect scope for my kind of shooting be it subs or high speed pills. Yes I own 22x USO also it's a great scope an a good fit for the stick it's on but a heavy bitch, which is a none issue from the truck to the shooting line, but a bitch to carry for 3+ days in the field. Different shooting venues call for different gear for different people, but show me a guy that has been on foot for a week or more, carrying a heavy weapon an ask him if he'd like a lighter one? One reason there are so many safe queens.

EXCEPT: Japanese cars made in the USA are the equal of those of the same brand made in Japan itself. The current Honda/Acura NSX was designed mostly in the US and is made only in Marysville, Ohio for sale in every country where Honda selles cars including Japan.

Let that sink in: Honda's most expensive, most technologically advanced supercar is made in exclusively in the USA by American workers using parts mostly manufactured in the US.

Nope, not now and likely never to be. Last big match I made was out in Arizona because I was working a project out there. Couldn't really bring anything with but a couple of folks were gracious enough to loan me everything even though I had not planned to shoot, just hang out. Funny how there isn't a lot of ego there.

No love nor hate for Leupold from me. I always thought their VX line of hunting scopes was overpriced compared to their competitors so I have owned very few. By the time I got into the LR scene the Mark 4 was outdated in the features and the Mark 6 was known to have issues with the turrets. Currently I've got a Mark 5 and it seems capable by all accounts, but I've not used it much. I would love to get my hands on a Mark 8 to compare hands on against other high end optics as it has a stellar reputation.

The issue becomes when you have a great optic but want more $$$ without offering more features is that your competition is gonna sell a lot of scopes... Leupold's reticle offerings are not great (the TMR is the one I find most useful) unless you want to pay even more $$$ for a Horus or Tremor reticle neither of which I find interesting. Everybody has their own tree style reticle (Vortex, Sig, ZCO, etc) do something similar and watch the Mark 5 explode in sales.
