Dude. exactly. I know too many fuds that believe the garbage he is spewing. Too many fuckin dudes working behind gun counters who spout random shit out of their mouth and sell it as fact. I think this guy is legit. And if not, one of the best trolls I've witnessed. My theory if he IS a troll, that he just copied something some guy said at a sporting goods store.I’ve seen too many people in real life with this same mentality and level of expertise/knowledge when it comes to Leupold to immediately assume he’s trolling.
This could seriously be the guy (or one of a few guys) who work behind the gun/scope counter at Jays Sporting Goods in Clare, MI. Leupold or die there...
All I know is that you can’t polish a vortex scope and wear Velcro sneakers......no wait......you can’t wear Velcro sneakers and own a vortex scope.?
The worst part about the local gun store know-it-all is that plenty of people go there for legit advice and genuinely believe what some of those guys are preaching.
I agree with that "in these parts Leupold is considered the gold standard". Especially at almost any store. Of course I live within 20 miles of their HQ. I have 2 old Leupolds on 2 of my rifles and they've served their purpose okay. But now I'm looking for new and better glass for my complete 30-06 rebuild. And I really like the glass on my Vortex Viper HD binos. That, along with info in forums such as this has got me looking at a few other options, such as the Vortex Viper scopes, while trying to keep within a reasonable budget.Local gun stores are often the worst place to go for advice simply because they are in the business of making a profit as soon as they can so they push whatever they have on the shelf. Unfortunately in these parts, Leupold scopes are widely regarded as the gold standard regardless of model and you're screwed if you even think about a different brand. Too many old school rednecks or hunters that are too thick skulled to learn any different.

I'd say the big box firearm/outdoor stores are even worse. Corporate retail sales culture blows goats. Many small mom-n-pop type stores have employees that give a damn and don't have sales quotas to meet, which is rare in corporate retail chains.
I'm liking my pst genII ffp in the 5×25TACC, you didn't make a mistake. The vortex PST gen 2s are good and if its what you can afford and works I can't see why you'd have any regrets. Don't look back but enjoy.
Looks like Vortex has lowered their prices, making the used market tough on the sellers, but the buyers are loving it! The other manufacturers are going to be feeling the heat. Looks night force has raised their prices, not sure if that's the right choice.
NF probably thought they were gonna have a killer year after their wide usage and vortex came in to pick up a large number of new shooters looking to get into higher end glass and this kind of shooting.Looks like Vortex has lowered their prices, making the used market tough on the sellers, but the buyers are loving it! Can we get a NSA analysts to decode this into something understandable.......I bought a Diamondback Tactical 6-24 FFP MRAD last year and it was always blurry above 16x or 18x magnification. Wasn't sure if it was from the 300WM recoil but I torqued the ring screws to 18 in-lb on the ADM Recon SL mount. I contacted Vortex and they told me to send it in, and they couldn't figure out the problem and sent me a new scope along with a note to remind me to torque to 15-18 in-lb. The new one is clear at 24x at 1000yd. I can see heat waves rising off a metal box along with the riveted panels and electrical conduits. Very clear.
I also have a Razor HD LHT 4.5-22x and it's slightly clearer than the Diamondback. Less chromatic aberration and all that. The scope tube is barely noticeable with how the glass is setup. But the illumination push button kept jamming and causing the light to work intermittently. Without the button, it works fine. Basically there's a metal clicker under the battery. I foresee this clicker/blade breaking after a few dozen uses. Very cheaply made.
The Razor was $1500 while the Diamondback was $360. Is the Razor worth the $1140 extra? Nope. I'd probably pay an extra $200 max for the Razor's glass and turrets but not $1140 more. I have not tried the Viper Gen 2 PST - maybe that's a good middle ground as it is half the price of the Razor. As for ruggedness, the Razor's even the Gen III or AMG, don't hold a candle to the battle sights like ELCAN or ACOG.
I have heard more than once of people sending back Razors 2-3 times for them to fix something that should have been caught during manufacturing, or how their Razors kept breaking during competition use. I just know my $1500 Razor has a $1 store push button for its illumination, whereas my $500 Trijicon Credo/Accupower 3-9x40 has a really really good light switch system and the glass is super crisp. At only 9x I can see the same conduit, riveting, etc... at 1000 yd as I can with the Diamondback 24x. It's just a lot smaller at 9x.
