BLUF: The lock bar mechanism on different G22 and G24 mounts does not seem to be consistent. Which way is yours?
Detail: Myself and a coworker purchased two mounts about a year ago. I purchased a G22 and my friend purchased a G24. Both were purchased new from the same reputable, registered wilcox dealer (The dealer is not in question here). Both of the received mounts WHEN WORN lock into the shroud being pushed from the left to the right.
I recently purchased a second new G22 from the same dealer. However, this one, WHEN WORN locks from the right to the left (opposite).
I called the dealer and wilcox on the issue. The dealer checked a few and said all of the new ones lock from right to left (like the newer one). Wilcox said they have always produced them this way. I'd normally not bother looking further into it, except we have at least two different model mounts, purchased new, from one of wilcox's largest dealers, which are different. I/we do not suspect that these are counterfeit mounts.
Also, to me it seems that that locking from right to left means that the raise button (cylinder) is right next to the unlock button and both are the same motion to activate (push to right). This seems like it is asking for someone to jettison the entire mount inadvertently when trying to raise the unit (either by hitting both buttons, or missing the cylinder). I personally prefer the 'improper' G22 and G24 where it would be much harder to accidentally unlock it from the shroud - the only control that is near the unlock button that way is the tilt knob which is a totally different motion.
How does yours work? What are your thoughts?
