Like the title says, having a 1:7 am I stuck with the 62s and up or can I venture into the 50s? I have a lot of miscellaneous 55 gr floating around but don't want to waste it if it's not going to shoot.

If this is a 20" or shorter barrel, no.

If it were longer and you were pushing really heavy charges, light skinned varmint bullets might rip apart from the centrifugal forces and the jacket being weakened by the rifling.

I've blown apart .264" 95 grain Hornady V-max in a 28" 1/8 .260 Remington.

Little white puffs about 50 to 75 yards downrange......

I had extremely good results in Savage LRPV 1:7 twist .223 using 52gr. Match bullets with RL10X. I load was very accurate out to 400 yards which is the farthest I have shot the 52's.

Any Flaws In The Bullets Will Show Up Faster When Over Gyroscopic Stabilized.. Good Pills Should Not Show Any Problems, unless The Rpm Was Enough To Sling The Bullet Apart..

I Shoot 40 Vmax From A 7 Twist 18" Woa 3300fps..

No, 1:7s shoot lighter bullets quite well. Look at the Chart put out by the Army in FM 22-9

Thanks for all the responses, guys. I probably should have specified in my OP that I'm running these through an AR, not a bolt gun. Not sure if it makes any difference or not but worth mentioning.

It doesn't.

I had Frank W.(CLE) build me a SpaceGun using a 26" Krieger with a 1-7" twist. I was loosing 52gr Amax's before they hit the target. I wasn't even pushing them that hard because I was using them for a reduced match at 100yds.

Long story short....the barrel installed was a 1-6.5". That was just enough to spin them apart. Of course Frank made it right and life is good. My 1-7's have always shot the 52's to 80's damn good. That 1-6.5" barrel is the only time I've ever had a problem with bullets coming apart.

I shot some 55 VMAX's yesterday out to just over 800 yards. I have an 8 twist, but they were EXTREMEMLY accurate to 670 for sure. After that, we had trouble with visualizing impact. Mr. MANGY coyote thought that they stabilized just fine too!

Yeah, I'm thinking I did that old boy a favor by shooting him. The female that was running with him looked just as funky. There are quite a few of these nasty ones around here. I have another picture of one I shot last month that was just as bad. I don't any idea really how they manage to stay alive. If I find it, I'll post it in the hunting section.
