Hello, im new here and I have just one quick question that I can't seem to find a definite answer to.

I'm wanting to build a rifle based on the remington 700 sps long range since it is the cheapest way to get a action and a heavier barrel to start with. My intentions would be to build to a long range build. However, it has a twist rate of 9 1/8" which seems odd for a factory gun.

My question is am I going to run into excessive rpms and suffer accuracy with hand-loading some the popular bullets ranging from 185-240. I'm aware that the 220-240 grains require a 9" twist to stabilize. I just don't want to be limited to these bullets if I find that a lighter bullet would be a better solution.

Or

Will i be better off buying an action and getting an aftermarket barrel in 10" twist.

Thanks from the rook

The website's incorrect. I wasn't initially aware of that model but I called Remington with the part number to be sure and they confirmed that it's 1:10. Whether or not they update their website who knows.

Megahoser- are you recommending cutting down to 22" for mobility sake or is that to offset some of the pressure created by the faster twist?

Leave the barrel alone. 1/10 twist and 26" is perfect for 300 WM. If it's going to be long range you'll want speed and a longer barrel. If you cut down the barrel you'll need to put more powder in your case, which will burn it out faster.
