This is heartbreaking. I'm seeing two good cops who did everything they could to save a life. If anything, they gave him too many chances. I don't think it's fair at all to say they should have been more aggressive
I actually think AJ is....DRINKING.... and just having a good ol’ Rip.It sucks, but sometimes you have to be responsible for one's self at some point in your life, mental or not. Mac
While in no way saying anything negative about the character or intentions of the officers, I will say that probably a good amount of people will recognize that they made some significantly dangerous choices in trying to handle the threat once they had interjected themselves and committed to a course of action. One of the officers came very close to serious or life threatening injury.
I don't disagree, but on a deeper level, this is exactly what SHOULD be the difference between a LEO and a citizen. I also believe cops are underpaid nationwide by at least twofold.
get rid of 100% of the local police and put them under sheriffs, then cut the total force by 75% and double pay. I can get behind that.
Dang dude. I kinda compare being a cop to being a tower crane operator. "Hours of boredom, moments of sheer terror." Just because 29 days a month you sit in a chair playing Nintendo, doesn't mean that when the winds pick up, you don't still have to do your job. Just because the danger's not constant doesn't make it less real. If anything, all those lazy days make it more dangerous than some kind of constant threat.Lotta Ifs there, grasping to justify killing a mental retard is unbecoming.
You act like being a cop is a dangerous job, take away getting hit by cars as they are writing tickets or crashing, getting killed by a criminal is a very low probability. Cops dont even make it to the top 50 dangerous jobs in the USA so stop with the heroics bullshit.
Unfortunately in this day and age of body cams, the public would loose their shit if they only give someone one command to drop a weapon (even though they'd be absolutely justified at that point) its a real catch-22. Look like a gun happy jack boot thug out to off someone or look like a pussy giving too many commands to drop the knife. That's why I hate body cameras. Id say a good two or three commands and pull the trigger just because of appearance (what burns my ass even suggesting that. Body cameras will get officers killed for that reason)
Too bad the cops didn't have a 12ga shot gun.

Oh, and last but least the police will show up.
They're not walking point in The Suck. The second they saw the knife they drew their weapons. All they saw was a kitchen knife. And started backing off. I don't get that luxury as an armed citizen. I have to be assualted, draw my weapon and shoot until the threat is over and I own every shot including missed. If I just draw, point and don't shoot before my life is in immediate danger I've committed a felony. Oh, and last but least the police will show up.
Interesting view some of ya have in here. What better day of the year for me to support your right to have it and wish you a safe and happy 4th![]()
You’re the reason cameras are so great... they keep you accountable to us.
Insanity to suggest you shoot someone because they didn’t respect “your authoritae”
AJ should be more understanding of the suspect’s wants and needs.
Congrats on an idiotic statement based off of not knowing a thing. You're the very reason I pass on most of these types of threads. You do not know me, know my department, my training or background and jump to stupid conclusions.
Can't walk away? Can do jack and shit while kids are getting shot up. Or when a theft rape or mursee happens and you do jack and shit for investigation. You’re leaving some things out. As a citizen, you don’t respond to calls. You’re not charged with apprehending criminals, the cops are. So while you could walk away, they can’t. If asshole has you in the crosshairs in this incident, dump him. Happens all the time, and you’d be completely within your rights. If you miss, and shoot the guy behind him, you were still within your rights to defend yourself, the same situation the cops would be in if they were in the same situation. Nobody is immune from civil liability. The felony you’re referring to is not applicable in a situation like this.
The cops acted properly in their response when they arrived and drew their weapons. They had prior knowledge of the situation, and the subject’s intent was immediately confirmed seconds later when he disobeyed commands and advanced. As far as I’m concerned, the worst they did was try too hard and for too long to talk him off the ledge. It ended exactly the way the suspect wanted it to. AJ should be more understanding of the suspect’s wants and needs.
The Deputy you’re referring to, is he being charged? Can't walk away? Can do jack and shit while kids are getting shot up. Or when a theft rape or mursee happens and you do jack and shit for investigation.
Oh. Plenty of time for extortion and sleeping while receiving overtime.
What a fucking joke
shut the fuck up with these niceties ferkrissakes your ruining the rage and the badge bunnie suckoffs.

Never characterized it as poetry in motion. They should have dumped him sooner, which would take away all your current gripes, and give you and others a whole new set of gripes.Of course, I'm forced to do everything for myself without police protection. As for these cops they had no plan. That was apparent with guns drawn and no attempt to flank. The retard marched those cops into a busy street. Got shot. Got back up. And managed to subdue an officer. Then the other officer had to shoot over his partner. Yeah, the whole thing was poetry in motion.

Holy shit, context is everything. Disobeying a command to disarm when you're waving a fucking knife around should and will get you shot. The sooner the better.I don’t know you. I only know about you that you just suggested cops shoot someone for disobeying after 2 or 3 commands just so they wouldn’t look bad.
You clearly wrote that.

I’m wondering if a shotgun with bean bag rounds would have saved this crazy person’s life without too much danger to the officers? Any LEOs here have training on those and/or thoughts about their effectiveness?
Use the fucking taser is all I am saying in this whole dam thread. There was no reason to shoot that retard dead. The extra training the cops need is combatives, Batons, and plain old fist fucking fighting and stop being such scared little pussies. You all need to weed out the pussies or easily frightened and the stone cold psychotic killers from your ranks.
you are in a insurgency war environment, every time you have a bad shoot or even a questionable shoot you lose 10 supporters, 100 people who were undecided decide against supporting the LEO community, 1000 people start watching you closer, and so on. You all are losing badly. And it is reflecting in recruiting.
In a previous post I asked who would take a taser to a knife fight. I really did not expect anyone would. but you are advocating that someone else do so. How brave of you.
You are living a fantasy. Watching to many movies. Courts including the SCOTUS have ruled dozens of times that LEO (any government employee) are under NO obligation to protect/defend a single citizen. Their duty is to the community as a whole. Not individuals. You DO know it’s: Standard Police Motto. The Los Angeles Police Department's famous motto, "to protect and to serve" (coined in 1955), has been adopted by many other police departments across the English-speaking world, sometimes in its alternate form "to serve and protect."........Surely you don’t live under a rock.

Think about it for a minute. It is impractical for LEO to be 100% responsible for you.
Oh and fuck me, Los Angeles police department is the 2nd or 3rd most corrupt in the country (Chicago #1 by a long shot). So fuck them and their "motto".

Good post.At 2:29 the perp got danger close and should have been dropped right then. WE were taught that early in training that someone with a knife has the advantage over a holstered gun if the distance is short. Damm fool is lucky to be alive. View attachment 7106775 This is what could have happened.
pussy or badge bunny??? which one?
I said sooner Jerry, not right when they got out of the car.So you are saying cops should pose immediate threats to citizens, thats how we should view cops? You know what that will lead to right? The most griping i see on this forum is from you all trying to justify every kill by a cop whenever someone questions their action.
your responses make me think BLM has a point.
