I shot my first 1000 TD F-TR match with a 175gr SMK load going 2705 fps no problem with elevation but wind is your enemy. It was blowing 12-15 mph and I was holding almost on the next target 7 feet away.

... 6.5CM is between 50% and 100% more expensive than equivalent .308.

With the US and other militaries adopting 6.5CM, I expect prices to drop in the coming years (drop relative to other rounds) and once its no more than 25% more expensive than equivalent .308 - a barrel swap is all I need.

USSOCOM is not the entire US military. If you're waiting for cheap, once-fired GI 6.5 Creed brass it may be a while.

Me experience shooting FGMM 175s from a SCAR 20S in a DA of 382 (Kingsville, TX in March) is that 800 is easily repeatable, 900 is usually repeatable and 1000 is just not achievable. Based on BallisticsARC and some experience, I expect the result would be much better here at home in Colorado, where on a hot day we can get a DA up to 9000 even on the plains at 5500 feet.

No, I'm not waiting for brass, I can't reload. I'm waiting for production of factory 6.5CM to drastically increase so that economies of scale can bring the price down to .308 levels, or close to.

@BillyNg FGMM ammo has been the gold standard for factory match ammo far longer than I care to say. You'll be GTG for a little while w/400 rounds of it..... Especially since you'll be using it out of that tack driving Tac Ops rifle Mike built you!!

I've pulled 1000 yard targets for a new shooter that showed up with 168 smk loads. No keyholing, on the paper, usually 8 (the 8 ring is a 44 inch circle) or better, just a little bit out of round holes in the paper.

I also spent a couple of years shooting 223 F/TR with Berger 80 vld's at the 1000 yard line. Yes, I've held on the target next to mine. I've also shot the same load at the 1000 yard line with my service rifle too.

Never shot the 175's, my first 1000 yard match was hand loaded 190 smk's for my Remington .308 Win VLS that has a chamber so big it swallows a no-go guage. The throat is so long, the 190's are the smk's that get anywhere near the lands.

Nice work. BA shows you got 1261 FPS at 1000 with those parameters. Mine got 1065. But bullet weight seems to be a bigger factor than DA in the differences.

but truthfully most people who reload cannot match the quality of FGMM in 308

guys will chime in a crush me and there are some serious reloaders on this site...but we all know its true

Its because guys try and "do better" with different powders, OAL, and all that jazz. 41.5-41.75 of IMR 4064 and a 175 SMk are like peanut butter and jelly.

the FTW SWAT guys next to me using dept issued 155 grains out of their 18"-20" guns went transsonic at around that 800 yard marker. add in the 15-25 mph winds and there was no chance at 1k.

FWIW, 8 twist is sweet on a 308

About a year ago I was shooting with some guys at my range and got some decent trigger time on a 16 inch PredatOBR using 175 FGMM. Longest target we had that day was a steel silhouette at something like 1030 yards. It definitely required more wind and elevation than the 6.5 and 338 Lapua, but it was completely doable for the experienced shooters. The noobs had a hard time. Elevation was around 1300 and temp was about 70-80.

Now I wonder why FN makes the SCAR 20S with a 1:10 twist. Anybody know? Would this reduce muzzle velocity? Thanks

1:10 does it all up to that 220 grain bullet weight. Just can't go wrong.
