If someone was to start a business specializing in AR products, and if you could have them make anything you wanted at a great price and superior quality what would it be. Passing ideas along to a friend who is starting a business that will specialize in manufacturing AR parts and accessories. He's really good at what he does but he's wanting to create things that haven't been done or can be improved upon.

Thanks

Re: Wish list

I would be looking for some sort of rear stock and front handguard that adapts the AR into more of a benchrest/tactical bolt action gun. Then do my load developments with that setup before switching back on the assault type stocks and handguards. Your friend can also design these pieces of equipment where extra weights can be added and removed.

Another thing would be a magazine that allows us to shoot longer bullets. The closer I can seat the bullet nearer the lands, the tighter I should be able to get my groups. Maybe a custom lower and mag combo that allows this? This way we can shoot really heavy bullets (like 80gr to 90gr) on the AR-15 as well as seat the lighter bullets closer to the lands.

Re: Wish list

I'm not sure what a benchrest handguard would look like but here is a crude first attempt at a benchrest/tactical stock could look like. Is this at all similar to what you were thinking?

Re: Wish list

Make the handguard-forend triangular. The top point of the triangle would allow the gas tube to pass. The bottom should be the wider flat base of the triangle (coated to make it very smooth) so it can sit easily on a flat shooting rest.

Check out this video and look at the forend and rear stock of this benchrest rifle:

Look at the front and rear rests the benchrest rifle sits.

EDIT: Seems like Badger thought of something similar:
