Well on the upside there are no fatties and for some reason a thong is the required uniform so there's that
Although i have won medals at the national level, I never thought that made my opinion any more or less valuable. Most of the folks who participate in my sport have completely different political views from my own. You'll occasionally convert one, but for the most part everyone involved just gets pissed. I think they're dumb-asses and they think I'm a dumb-ass.
As a side note, my grand-daughter won her first medal last week. There was nothing to indicate what it was for. I opened a drawer full of my old medals to show her how I put tape on the back and wrote when and why I had won the medal. It was funny hearing her tell everyone about all of Papa's medals. Lol

I have a woke feminist daughter and she did point out that all those beach volleyball and handball teams are required to wear those thong-style uniforms. Apparently the Norweigan team was having a bad day and wanted to wear spandex biker shorts and got fined. Be Woke, but don't forget TNA gets viewers lol.
When I want to dress sexy all people do is complain “ugh, your legs are hairy”, or “Sir, your balls are hanging out”.
It's been going on for the last few where the cities hosting, as well as a ton of people have realized that its a gigantic waste of money. Remember, it used to be sold as a giant boon for whatever local economy hosted the games, but generally, it'll just fucking bankrupt you instead.
I keep thinking this may be the beginning of some sort of change. The disaster that is the Tokyo Olympics may be the one where everyone goes..ok, we need to not keep doing this.
No one really cares.
No one watches it with sports on 100 channels 24/7.
The costs for it are insane.

On the facilities topic, I am extremely pissed to see womens softball being played on a regulation baseball field. They removed the mound, moved the bases up the line and erected a fence in the outfield! All that Olympic money and they couldn't get a regulation field built.

Then it came out that "Biles later told TODAY’s Hoda Kotb that while she feels good physically, things “vary” from an emotional standpoint."

Simone Biles goes faster, flips more, and flies higher than any other female gymnast. There are things that she does that only she can do. For that, she has been coined "the greatest of all time." Judged competitions are not sports and should not be in the olympics. Skateboarding can fuck right off, and co can gynastics. At least golf and the shooting sports (neither of which can claim the title of athletic 'athletes') have objective scores.
The organizers decided to build bed frames out of cardboard, sufficiently strong to hold one occupant. The theory being that if 2 got into bed and collapsed it, then they would no longer be able to do the deed. No one said whether the beds were built for 90 lb gymnasts or 300 lb wrestlers...

I heard the US gymnastics chick who quit was very good, to the point she had points deducted to not discourage the others, if that’s true I’d have quit too, but I would have done it and let known why, of-course her only future is as a sports corespondent and maybe calling that BS out would torpedo her possibilities after aging out
I'm gonna push back on that--you quit MID COMPETITION because the judges are being too hard? Plus everything put out by the gymnast says it was 'mental health' and not judging. (sorry the more I think about it, the more i get pissed off).

If you entered into a match, and found out no matter what you’d only be awarded X amount of hits even if you had all hits, but the other competitors didn’t have that handicap, you wouldn’t tell them to kick rocks?
I mean it’s like that old thing where the whole class gets a C, why should the A+ students keep pushing themselves?

I think theres a difference between 'quitting' on your team and withdrawing because you feel youre not performing up to standard (for what ever reason) and removing yourself so one on your team can do better.
Just throwing this out there, because I don't really follow gymnastics. I read an analysis by other retired gymnasts that said it was obvious that she had "lost herself in the air". This is apparently a condition that is extremely dangerous and one cannot really "play through". It was compared to vertigo for fighter pilots. Might be overcome with practice, but to continue would be extraordinary reckless and risk serious injury or death. The article referenced a young gymnast in a Tokyo qualifier match who was paralyzed and died a quadriplegic. Don't know if any of that is true, just another opinion to consider. She did stay with her teammates the rest of the competition, cheering them on and encouraging.
