Was using Rem 7 1/2 in my AR but due to unavailability purchased the subject primers. Loaded and shot 66 rounds from the prone sling position: 33 using 24.0 grains Varget and 33 using 24.0 grains RL15. Both groups (33 rounds each) grouped right around 1 MOA and POI moved 1 MOA to the left and 1 1/4 MOA low as compared to the Rem 7 1/2 primers. No misfires, piercings etc. Based on these results I'm confident in recommending the subject primers to others who might be looking...

I'm not saying it can't hapen, but I'm having a really hard time understanding how the POI is shifting due to the primer alone. Maybe I can see it dropping or climbing a bit if the ignition is hotter or colder than the original primers. But why would it shit a full 1 MOA left?

Spin drift, IIRC, is a constant based on the twist rate, bullet length, etc. I still don't see how a different primer is going to change the spin drift.

the joke was missed and it's hard to show your words are dripping with sarcasm...

I understand spindrift, and all that goes with it...

Some of the ones that have been around the Hide a while will get the joke..

Re: Wolf Small Rifle Magnum Primers

I never said I didn't believe him. I said I was impressed. In high power, the x-ring is 1 MOA correct? ( that is an assumption as I haven't shot it before) so he shot 33 consecutive shots into 1 MOA while prone and slung up. Then did it again; 33 shots into 1 MOA. That's is theoretically like shooting 66 consecutive x's. Is that common for AR shooters? Like I said, I'm impressed.

Re: Wolf Small Rifle Magnum Primers

The X ring at 600 and out (and I think the 500 yard target is 1moa too, but without going out to the barn to look at a target, cant confirm it) for HP is 1 MOA, the 10 ring is 2 MOA. At shorter yardages, the reduced simulation targets are more like 3/4 MOA at 100, and at 300 the X ring is 2 3/4 inches. The AR can most certainly shoot 1moa at 100 yards and out. It takes some young eyes and a good shooter to shoot the service rifle sights well. When I used to shoot the SR I could shoot most of my 20 shots for record at 100 yards into the X ring but I would get a few that would get out into the 10 ring.

With the match rifle (apeture sights) I can normally leave the X ring just one big hole. My best at 300 yards, 200-18x...yes, from a sling, with irons and was the first group I ever shot out my then new Quadlock Palma rifle I just had built....have shot plenty of 200s with 17, 16, 15, etc, but have never gotten all 20 in there. I keep trying, but shooting 20 shots in a row into under 1 MOA isnt easy. It CAN be done, and has been done, but not often.

And if you really want to be impressed, watch someone shoot a 308 Palma rifle at 1000 yards. I just shot at the US National Rifle Team tryouts at Butner this weekend and there were some damn good targets shot. Now, I will add that at the tryouts, you got one guy running the spotting scope and adjusting the shooters wind knob and the shooter is responsible for putting the shots on the targeting using as little elevation as possible, ie, the goal is all 20 shots into 1 MOA of elevation, which is the height of the X ring. If one does that, you have maximized the scoring ring for your wind coach.

Fun stuff!
