Woody's Designated Marksman Match Sponsored By DPMS October 25th Series Finale

Re: April 28+29 NC DESIGNATED MARKSMAN MATCH

All

Registration is 7 am Saturday for the morning session 12 pm for the afternoon session and 9:30 am for the Sunday session.

Please follow the drive slow signs once you turn off the paved road onto the gravel road as the local folks have young children and pets. It is a big plus having neighbors that are shooter friendly so let’s all help keep it that way.

On Saturday there will be a catering truck selling breakfast/lunch items and I am told by folks that have purchased from them at other matches it is outstanding and not your normal "roach coach" fare.

Woody, myself and some outstanding volunteers set up the stages yesterday on the farm and this match is looking both challenging and fun for all participants

Weather is looking great so far for next weekend. That said this is a tactical match so rain/shine/windy/calm be prepared to come and "SEND IT" on the farm!

I will be posting pictures of the T-Shirts on the Hide later today and will be e-mailing session rosters to the shooters. At this point we will be locking in the teams to minimize any confusion. In addition we will be developing the squads to optimize flow of the match so no squad jumping or swapping will be allowed at the match. We will be taking into account the preferences we know of from e-mails, conversations and previous matches and will do our best to accommodate but squading is not guaranteed.

Since this will be the 1st match were we have expanded the precision/long range individual competition past a single stage side match we would like to request shooter feedback post the competition. This will help us take it to the next level and possibly consider it for an expanded dedicated event in the future.

The sponsors have really stepped up to support this match with several coming to shoot with us.

Look forward to seeing you all at the farm next weekend

Semper Fi

Dave

Any pics of the shirts? I would like one in Medium if you have it, if not, large.

Re: April 28+29 NC DESIGNATED MARKSMAN MATCH

If a shirt was ordered on your registration it will be waiting for you at check in ($20.00 per shirt requested). Unfortunately only the ones who had it requested will have one waiting with a couple of the very late registration not having submitted in time for the printing order

Re: April 28+29 NC DESIGNATED MARKSMAN MATCH

OK. Odd question. Is it ok if my wife has our dog with us at the match? We dont have anyone to babysit the dog for 2 days here so we have to bring her with us. She isnt gun shy and will be on a leash the whole time(the dog not the wife). Shes an extreamly friendly dog and we just had her fixed on Monday so shes still moving kinda slow. My wife wants to come though cause she wants to see what a match is like cause she is getting more into guns and might want to build her own rifle.

Hey y'all.... I am in need of a partner for the AM match. I'm running a junky ole Badger 6.5 CM that I just threw together. I am also using MOA reticles / lingo and would prefer a shooter that uses MOA as well.

Dave, I'm rushing to get those AI/Badger wrenches done for the prize table. Do I need to send them ahead of time or can I bring them the day of ?

</div></div>

If you are talking about an AI action wrench, this is relevant to my interests.

Great match as always, thanks again to Woody and crew for having us out there and putting all their time and effort towards hosting a great event.

Re: April 28+29 NC DESIGNATED MARKSMAN MATCH

It was a awsome match. Very challenging and alot of fun. Thanks to woody and all the ro's. And a huge thank you to all the venders who contributed to the prize table. They were extremely generous. Thanks to the guys a tactical suppressed weapons. I picked up one of there certificates and I cans wait to get my hands on one of there small 308 cans. They had one at the match
And it was very impressive.

Re: APRIL 28 & 29 DESIGNATED MARKSMAN MATCH AT WOODYS

Dave & Woody - As always, an excellent match and very well run with dedicated ROs on each stage. The no-shoots even seemed to have a little more breathing room than the December match this time. Great stages and the wind today definitely made things interesting, especially at stage #2. The BBQ by Woody's dad was missed this time though.

Thanks Woody for another great Match! It was cool to meet some of the sponsors shooters. Great pictures bp78, you got me on a great "action" shot on top of the van with a shell in mid-air.

Re: APRIL 28 & 29 DESIGNATED MARKSMAN MATCH AT WOODYS

We had a great time yesterday at the match. Thank you Dave for encouraging me to come to the match! Thank you to Woody for the challenging stages, to all the RO's for a long day of shooting, and to all the sponsors for the great prize table. I want to encourage any females out there to come out and give it a try! It was a lot of fun, everyone was so nice, and I got to spend 12 hours shooting with my hubby. I can't tell you how exciting it was to fire that first bullet of the morning and see that orange flash!

Re: APRIL 28 & 29 DESIGNATED MARKSMAN MATCH AT WOODYS

All

First and foremost I want to THANK ALL of THE SHOOTERS that took time to come and spend the weekend "sending it" with Woody, the RO's, Support crew (Lou and Dana) and me!!! Without you all there would be no match. We had lady shooters for the first time and some folks under 18 shoot also. They showed up a fair amount of us as the scores below will show.

Thanks to all the sponsors who really helped our match have some excellent prizes for shooters with a special shout out for John /Curt who flew in from JP Rifle in MN.

Once we all recover I will begin hopefully convincing Woody to open up the farm for us for another go round.

Re: APRIL 28 & 29 DESIGNATED MARKSMAN MATCH AT WOODYS

The match was great, very challenging but also very manageable. I shot Morning and Afternoon Saturday along with the Sunday Match. Finished 39th overall Saturday morning, 13th overall Saturday Afternoon, and 5th overall on Sunday. My only real complaint is that it was a spent brass match. It wouldn't have been as bad if I would have known it beforehand but it caught me as quite the surprise although I do understand the reasoning behind it ( to help the match run faster). I would love to think all the RO's, Woody, Branson, the participants, and most of all the Sponsors. I was fortunate enough to win a free bolt knob install from GA Precision. Already looking forward to the next match! Thanks Everyone for such a fun tiring weekend in which I learned alot, shot a great match, met a bunch of great shooters, and wore myself out pretty good.

Re: APRIL 28 & 29 DESIGNATED MARKSMAN MATCH AT WOODYS

Guy's, I had a blast. It was a pleasure shooting with my partner that you paired me with. I just hope I didn't hamstring him too much Saturday.
Suggestions:
1. We need to seek County/State/Federal funding (or cut off the wife's beer money) to outfit every rifle shooter with them new fangled sound modulators like some of them shooters were using. Those muzzle breaks are just a passing fad anyway.

All seriousness, Damon and Dave, keep up the good work and if there is anything I can do when it's shootin time again, just say it.

Re: APRIL 28 & 29 DESIGNATED MARKSMAN MATCH AT WOODYS

big thanks to the hosts and to the ros for a great match and a big thanks out to Dennis-in-va for the action wrench on the prize table.I also wish i had known about the brass thing earlier so i could have gotten rid of some of my old Remington brass instead of my good stuff

Re: APRIL 28 & 29 DESIGNATED MARKSMAN MATCH AT WOODYS

Had great fun shooting both days and thanks to Tactical Suppressed Weapons' contribution to the prize table I see a 'sound modulator' in my future. No issue loosing to Lynn and Tim after watching those guys shoot the stages. Thanks again to Woody, Dave and the ROs... Will be attending your events whenever possible moving forward.

Re: APRIL 28 & 29 DESIGNATED MARKSMAN MATCH AT WOODYS

Dave and Woody ran a solid, fun and challenging match. I like the option of running through the DMM course of fire twice once in the AM and again in the PM. I should've brought enough ammo to run through the stages twice. Anyone within 8 hours travel time from this match should consider attending their fall match. Woody and Dave were able to run 103 competitors through the courses of fire safely and efficiently. This match is going to get big and be one of the must attend matches on the east coast.

Thanks
To Woody for allowing us to shoot on his property
To Dave for running the match
To the competitors for conducting themselves in a save friendly manner
To the generosity of the sponsors for supporting the event

Re: APRIL 28 & 29 DESIGNATED MARKSMAN MATCH AT WOODYS

I had a great time shooting with everybody and I'm really looking forward to the next match. Woody set up the course really nice and challenging again, Dave et al ran the stages very well, and the sponsors were very generous so please check out their web sites and try out some of their top notch gear. I saw a wide variety of shooters this weekend and I'm glad to see the younger shooters and ladies out there giving us all a run for our money.

I want to say thanks to our team sponsors because your gear helped us out greatly. Special shout out to Southwest Ammunition, Gemtech, TAB Gear, Precision Rifle Solutions, Alpha Industries, US Optics, and The Gun Farm.

I hope to see everyone at another match soon!

-Lynn

Re: APRIL 28 & 29 DESIGNATED MARKSMAN MATCH AT WOODYS

Thanks for letting us shoot on your property Woody! To Dave and all of the ROs and organizers, thank you! You designed these stages to be tough and I think you really saw the separation in scores with the format. The competitors all kept it low key and positive and I appreciate that as well. I learned a lot from my morning partner on stage strategy and speed techniques. I love when the learning curve is steep like this weekend.

I'm personally taking a ton of ideas back to my practice and I know I'll be a better shooter in the future because of this match.

Re: APRIL 28 & 29 DESIGNATED MARKSMAN MATCH AT WOODYS

Man, Lynn.... some of the guys in those photos look like trouble
wink.gif

Woody, thanks for putting together such a great event. I was challenged and learned a ton! Dave, great job, great communication and I hope you get some much deserved rest this week! All RO's, my hats are off to you! Without your time, this event would not happen. And to all the amazing sponsors, you are the reason this sport is thriving!

I know our practice sessions will be changing up quite a bit. Integration of positioning, target acquisition (my weak point, now that I know), and time management are going up the priority list.

One last thanks goes to all the great fellow competitors for assistance, pointers and respect shown on the field. This is a good group of shooters! Who knew I was going to need 30 rounds on the first stage..... I swear that one in the woods was a swinging IDPA target

And of course, the rifle named "Mazda 3". I watched this rifle literally get RUN OVER by a Mazda 3 on accident. If I'm not mistaken it was still on zero or very, very close and it ended up shooting lights out the remainder of the day.

Re: APRIL 28 & 29 DESIGNATED MARKSMAN MATCH AT WOODYS

Mazda 3!!! This rifle will definitely be wearing that name proudly in the future.

Yeah, that was my previous new rifle
blush.gif

I had to dial in .1mil left after the accident but I didn't miss another shot until my last stage. We were all laughing about it since I shot so poorly on day one... the Mazda "fixed" it

. I'll be checking all of the torques today and I'll put it through a detailed dope confirmation next weekend to see if there is anything really screwed up.

BTW, what ammo are you shooting? If you're interested, I have a $100 certificate for Southwest Ammunition if you'd like to give them a try. No cost, just IM me your info if you want to try out some of their ammo.

Re: APRIL 28 & 29 DESIGNATED MARKSMAN MATCH AT WOODYS

Lynn I wasn't in your squad Saturday or Sunday but did get to see you shoot the three targets within 10 seconds......Very impressive shooting. Congrats on the win.

Re: APRIL 28 & 29 DESIGNATED MARKSMAN MATCH AT WOODYS

Lynne

Killer Pictures!!!!!!! I may lean on you to get a CD burned. I wish I could have seen you shoot the 10 sec stage. Several folks commented on that especailly given you were driving a bolt gun.

Had to break down and add the PRS tripod rig and the Fusion 1600 bino's to my kit...ouch!!!!! But saw that they were a must. I will likely pass on the Mazda bolt upgrade on my rifle though. Although sounds like it ran like a laser after that

Re: APRIL 28 & 29 DESIGNATED MARKSMAN MATCH AT WOODYS

Brass at the match.

Guys we hear you loud and clear on the brass concern. The goal was to have it not be worried about between shooters to speed flow but allow for the squad when the stage finsihed to toss it in the bucket and gather what folks wanted. That said we did not communicate that well enough and will ensure we do in future matches.

Thanks again for coming to shoot and making this match what it has become by having all of you attend (it is one of my personal favorites of the year)

I must say the old bull is tired and somewhat horse

Lynn, glad to see you won. The only thing this thread is missing is more pics of me

If you got any good pics of me and David will you email them to tl.hager @ hotmail.com

Thanks, hope to see and shoot with you and Stephen sooner then later.

Re: APRIL 28 & 29 DESIGNATED MARKSMAN MATCH AT WOODYS

I want to thank Woody, Dave, and all others who helped put on this match. This was a very challenging match and I can't wait until the next one. I really had a great time and learned a lot about myself and my equipment. Again, thanks.

Re: APRIL 28 & 29 DESIGNATED MARKSMAN MATCH AT WOODYS

The van stage was definitely my favorite. I like when both shooters have to shoot something different. It would be really neat if 1 shooter had to accomplish something, in order for a target to be present for the second.

Yeah, like simultaneous fire where shooter one has to drop a target (no shoot /hostage resetting type) to give shooter two a clear shot on the prize. Have the interference target set so that it resets in a second or two. Maybe even use a spring loaded version so both shooters are firing almost simultaneously.
