I have a coworker we kind of make fun of in a good natured way as he is committed to health and loves to teach his ideas.

He is not obnoxious, a zealot or anything like that, its just that he is so committed, passionate and steady in his beliefs that its both a pleasure to see and makes you kind of wonder when he goes home does he don orange shaolin monk robes and do tai chi with incense and the sound of waterfalls.

Anyway I was looking forward to his class and learned a lot.

I have been doing the Keto thing for longer than a year now. Not crazy keto....I dont measure shit, check ratios nor piss on keto stix.

I do avoid carbs and sugars to the greatest extent possible. Most of what I eat comes from the meat case, produce section or dairy aisle. Outside that its nuts or oils.

I started fasting Mondays and Thursdays about three weeks ago. I eat breakfast in the morning than dont eat until next days breakfast. That breakfast is pretty fat and oil laden - it holds me through most of the day and I really only experience "back ground hunger" with no weakness through out the day, workouts have not been adversely effected.

I knew fasting/autophagy was going to be a topic in my coworkers class from another coworker reporting on what was in the class.

    Autophagy - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autophagy

The mechanism makes sense to me and I think there will be benefits.

Im not trying to lose weight, I think Im at a fine weight now, its a "making the machine run better" endeavor.

In addition to autophagy the instructor expounded on the benefits of

    Apple Cider Vinegar

    Broccoli Sprouts

    Turmeric

Dangers of Glyphosate and how its getting into our food chain

Planning on adopting the top three in my diet (easy and cheap) while I now wont disdain the label "Organic" on food packaging anymore (expensive).

Looking for comments knowledge if anyone is familiar with this stuff and I have a question about my adopting these beliefs......

Does this make me like "Hipster"? Should I buy Birkenstocks and fashion a man bun hairstyle? Could this be a sign of "gheyness"?

Everything old is new and fashionable again.

Most of what these guys are saying was actually talked a lot about by the health conscious folks back like 50 years ago.
Nobody cared much, but then the Government (at the behest of the corn/sugar industry) started their crazy "war on fat" which left Americans overweight, sick and diseased & now everybody is rushing back to discover old school eating stuff.

Back like 35 to 40 years ago we used to have little apple cider vinegar dispensers on the table to put a little bit in the water we drank.
(Which of course becomes a challenge for the kids... how much can you do without making a face).

Yep. Co worker touched on that......

Seems like the mortality rate started to resemble the stock market under Trump after this came out...

almost seems like it met its intended consequences.

Wow. I've been a lurker in the hide here for a while, and as I branch out and explore some sub forums such as this one, I'm continually impressed at the breadth and depth of the knowledge here. VERY informative OP.

Anything is better than mainstream America and our fascination with fast food and instant foods.
Just shop only the perimeter of the grocery store and you’ll do much better health wise than 95% of Americans. Anything in the aisles of the store is junk food.

I am not a fan of the Keto diet myself. Carbs are an essential part of our diet and are the main brain food for the human body. They are also pure fuel and energy for extreme workouts. The key though is clean carbs, not KFC
