The salient issue is that of crazy people. Crazy people doing crazy shit used to be kept apart from society, but it became unpopular to lock Uncle Harry up. Instead, they preached medication and moderate supervision, which is why our streets are now littered with the clinically insane homeless.

Look I am not trying to push anyone's buttons. The proposal was said to have been brought up to Trump at Mar-alogo last weekend.
The fact is that the human brain is not fully developed until about age 24. That it has been proven that before age 20 most people can not fully think out the totality of there actions.
I dont believe talking about it like grown men is detrimental in anyway.
If you are old enough to die for your Country you are old enough to own an AR. What we need is a Liberalism restriction on teachers and a law that requires active parenting.

I do believe the age restrictions on handguns should be dropped. Handguns are legal to purchase at 18, just not through a licensed dealer. At 16 I had and carried in my truck a Ruger MkII Gov Target. Killed many a coon and various other critters. I never shot up a bunch of undeserving folks with it.
A 13 y/o cannot choose what, when or where they do anything and are not old enough to enter into a contract.
If we have to compromise then we should tie it to voteing. If an 18 YO is not old enough to own any gun he can buy then he is not old enough to decide who has his finger on the trigger for WWIII.

This invites further restrictions, maybe old people are not allowed to own guns because they are not mentally as sharp as they used to be. So are we looking at gun ownership only between the ages of 25-65??

I recieved my first gun (bb) at about 6. Once I had proven responsible I had unlimited access to it. Until I shot my brother in the leg, that mother fucker deserved it. Got it back in a week (i think dad knew he deserved it).
I see 18 year olds and swear they are mentally about 12.
How can you make a parent "raise" there child. Specially when they might be 2nd or 3rd Gen dumb ass.
Because parents are not doing there job. I would like to see manditory gun education. By manditory i mean just that, required for everyone before age of 18. If you dont want to own a gun fine, but I do think EVERYONE should be able to check and unload a firearm.
during the 50's we were having kids field strip rifles in middle schol and beyond. High school rifle teams were the rage. i would sure like to be find out what happened to us. i look at this generation coming out now and i am scared for us. we are so screwed.

I had my first firearm, a single shot 22 rifle, at 14., and was strictly supervised by family and police (PAL Youth Shooting program at the Newark, NJ Boys Club). Within a year, I was left to my own recognizance, and I think I did a good job of being a new, responsible gun owner.
I might also point out that service people do not have the advantage of enjoying the Bill of Rights; but are instead governed under the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ); a fact that barracks lawyers always seem to get wrong.
i would be more receptive toward politically motivated gun control initiatives if I could point to instances where any gun control measures actually solved a perceived problem. Good at making rules, pretty poor at enforcing them, always treating the gun as an animate object, seldom if ever holding actual miscreants responsible for initiating the violent act; I am a firm believer that the Second Amendment was always intended to take the keeping and bearing arms strictly out of the political process and says so in unambiguous terms. Those who claim otherwise are either genuinely stupid or deliberately obtuse on the subject

To be honest, I wasn't aware that 18 year olds were able to purchase the MSR type rifles, for some reason I thought those were 21 along with the handguns. (possibly state law, but I haven't seen any FFLs around here willing to sell pistols or MSR style stuff to under 21 year olds).
I think Federal law does not let anyone under 18 buy firearms from an FFL, they have to have a parent / guardian etc buy the gun & there is no reason to change that.
However I think it makes little difference, most of the recent murderers were well over 21 so it would not have made a difference.
Who is really responsible is the FBI, they are the ones who should be being grilled over this massacre.
If you get multiple credible reports backed up by proof that someone is possibly going to do a terrorist action, has the means, the will & the capability to do so, is stating they will do it & you just go home and don't even tell the local authorities to go check it out.
How much more would another law do?
And to those who blather on the lies about "there was nothing we could do", just call them out on their lies openly, you notice they grabbed his brother and slammed him into a mental hospital with pretty much no specific evidence of any planned wrong doing, just to cover their own rear ends.
In my opinion, a publicity stunt to make the sheeple feel safe like closing the barn door after the horses have bolted and it has burned to the ground.
I'm sure they could have easily done the same thing with the actual killer based on all the evidence they had.
How about making the FBI and local agencies criminally and financially responsible if they blatantly drop the ball on specific credible threats.
Yes everyone has rights & we are not into locking people up because of "pre-crime", but nobody's rights are being infringed if you actually follow up on someone and meet them and ask them to explain troubling things they have said / done.
You can also put people under surveillance easily with a minimum amount of paperwork (FBI seems to do it all the time when they want to get rid of trump).
If they don't have a carry licence, it's easy to simply put a delay flag on their file with the ATF NICS checks, lots of people who have had / do have security clearances get a delay due to something marked or left out of their files.

I support age restricting semi-autos until 21. The prefrontal cortex, which is the decision making organ, does not come online until ~25.
