PRS Talk Wrist Coach Vs Python

I find I have to break position more with a wrist coach.
Yeah I think this is especially true with prone shooting.

I was thinking just grab both and use a wrist coach for notes/details/whatever and a python for quick dope reference. The only thing I don't like about the python is the thought of having something block my field of view. I guess it's not a big deal since you can just fold it down...

Like everyone else said, a rifle mounted dope card seems to be a better solution. I use a wrist coach that last two years and forgot it at home the last match. Bought a rifle mounted one at the shop and instantly loved it. Can see everything without moving your head.

I like the data on my wrist better. Used to write it on my hand years ago but I have a QB band that I write my cards up on and have them in it. I can just turn my eyes down and see it on my arm. Never slowed me down. I don't like having things hanging off my rifles. Just one more thing to hit an obstacle or anything when moving or have to worry about snagging. People like them and that's fine but not for me.

I love my sidewinders. It’s easy for me to see it off on the left. I’ve never had it snag or break or fall off. To me it’s super intuitive to have it right there. My left arm is usually doing something else so I don’t want to move that around to see my dope.

Do you dial with your data arm? I was just thinking - if you're dialing, you have to break position anyway so that argument in favor of the Python kinda goes out the window. If you bring the card up to dial, it's essentially placing it at eye level...

Yup always dial with the left arm and you are right. Arm is coming up to dial anyways. For holds it's a quick glance down and I usually remember the first 2 or 3 holds anyways so only looking down a couple of times.

I’ve always found that dialing with your right hand is significantly faster and you also don’t break position off the bag. Your right hand is coming up to run the bolt anyway. I’m talking specifically about prone, troop line for example. On a barricade can depend on the balance point.

I like right hand holding the rifle steady as I dial with left. Never an issue doing it. Plenty of time and if not enough time to dial then just hold.

I have a python that I've used a couple of times but just never got used to it. When I started I would write dope down on a piece of tape on my arm and that naturally progressed into the arm board. As mentioned, I bring my left hand up to dial anyway, and even on hold over stages it hasn't been a problem for me to look at my arm. If I am shooting a new target a lot of the time I am adjusting my body position anyway, sometimes the new target is across the field, sometimes you're moving to a new address on a prop. When I tried switching to the python I was having the issue of rubbing it up on barricades and moving. May have been something I could have corrected with better placement but I just never saw a point. I tried it, liked my old way better and went back to it. Never really had a reason to change other than seeing what the alternative felt like.

I made my own scope mounted dope card...

1 Nite eyes gear tie
2 laminated index cards
10 inches of adhesive backed velcro
1 sharpie
1 small spray bottle of 100% ethanol

I have my dope on a separate sheet and write down what I need for the stage.

Wrap the gear tie around the scope. Apply the adhesive backed Velcro to the cards so that they can link up across the legs of the tie. Use the ethanol to clean the cards.

As said above, a scope mounted card is right where you need it to see it, unlike your wrist.

I use a wrist coach with my dope card under plastic and use a wet erase marker to circle my target ranges. On most obstacles I am holding near the front objective with my left hand so the dope card it right in my line of view and my right hand stays on the bolt and trigger. Occasionally I keep my left hand on the elevation turret when there is a transition between multiple targets and I’m dialing instead of holding. That’s just my take on it. YMMV.

I use an Armageddon Gear arm board and a hawk hill data holder. The AG arm board is better for general stages, and I use the HHI for fast stages where I am shooting holdovers exclusively and want my data in my off eye for visibility at all times.

This is the conclusion I’ve come to, I use the Sunrise Tactical arm-band from S.A.P. If your gonna use an arm-band, make sure it will fit over your long-sleeve jackets in cold weather..
