I’ve read the entire user manual (all 100+ pages). I need some help. Can some one tell me the process for wind capture when ranging multiple targets (say on a stage) that has a wide left to right pan. If target (A) has a 3-5 mph coming from 12:00 and all the way over to target (E) it’s coming from 4:00. Do the Vectors go off target A and calculate as the azimuth changes as you work your way to target E? Or is this all gonna have to be manually inputted?
I asked this same exact question to Philip (at Vectronix)...

You MUST input wind with each corresponding target. The ONLY way to do this is through the app since you cannot input individual wind values for Target A, B, C, etc during capture.

This is a HUGE oversight since inputting wind to a large array of targets with varying DOF and wind would take far too long.

(I suggested to them that they change this through a firmware upgrade to a process similar to Kestrel: input all targets. Capture wind ONCE from XYZ bearing and have it apply to all targets in the TARGET CARD.)

Each target has to be manual, which sucks if you are using these as a stand alone solver. The binos by themselves only calculate wind relative to DOF.

If you're using with a kestrel or garmin device, it will use true wind direction, but don't use the vector's target card feature (there's a glitch with all devices, vector problem) but if you use the connected device for target card, all is good.

They seriously need to correct this. Hopefully it's just a firmware update. Can't see why not. Every single AB device has this feature, Garmin took quite a while to get it right on the 901, but it's finally there.

And it's not only multiple target engagements. I'd like to have a wind direction and speed dialed in (say in a hunting situation) when a target of opertunity shows up, hit the range and get the wind call instantly.

I appreciate the info. That’s a kick in the nuts as I was hoping I could use these during matches instead of my PLRF05, Kestrel, and separate binos. Maybe they will fix it in the future. I guess for now, the Vectors will be used for hunting only.

I thought I read somewhere when vortex did the Fury ab binos, they used a wind capture with thr bino compass that then vectored the target azimuth VS the winds known azimuth? This process was patented, I'd read or heard by vortex. Maybe this is why sig, Leica, nor vectronix have used the simple method.

It's been a while since I read their patent, but I believe it was about pointing the binos into the wind direction and clicking one button to capture wind direction. Kestrel did that first, but if the patent only pertains to binos/optics you should still have a workaround by manually entering the wind azimuth. It would be easy to do with the vectors since it gives a live azimuth.

I wanted to eliminate the Kestrel/Garmin 901 for the Snake River match next week. But it looks like that won't happen since I still need to use them to build a target card.
It's really hard to beat the vectors and the 901 combo for a target card in a NRL style match. The connection is solid and you'll have the card on your wrist.

For PRS, I just use these to verify and spot. I don't even bother connecting to kestrel. Even though you could quickly fill out the kestrel target card with them.

For stand alone, or their own target card they're not ready yet. No true wind direction, target card doesn't work, e-dope doesn't work. It's a nice intuitive app, but it's about useless.
