So I have a good one for you guys:

Official Site - XeroWind?

This comes straight from the DARPA labs, and from what my source (who is involved with the project) tells me it works quite well. I was skeptical, but I'll let it talk for itself. The commercial site just launched, so you guys are about the first people to see it. The website isn't finished, but you at least get a first look now.

If this is not hoax, and
if the system comes with an integrated ballistic computer, and
if it has built in laser range finder, and
it accurately reads the winds down range, and
it cost around 2K plus my scope.

Then I will invest in this invention
It sounds credible so far, this is the Darpa prototype version:

Many years, and tax payer dollars, in the making! Glad someone is still trying to chase this Unicorn down.

Last version that I saw back in 2013 (One Shot XG) was running with about a 70%-80% success rate under the best circumstances/conditions, wonder where this version is at?

Gotta love it when millions of tax payers dollars get spent, and then a private company turns around and sells what was gained out of that expenditure at profit back to the tax payers! I think that you should get at least a 10% discount if you submit a copy of your tax returns!

Personally, I will not be jumping on this band wagon until it has some time in the field and has some kind of a proven track record. Time will tell!

Glad to see that someone is moving ahead with this aspect of electro-optical riflescopes; the naysayers' criticism of wind reading (or, rather, lack thereof) on the TrackingPoint system got to the point where it clouded the future potential of such technology.

Not to oversimplify things, but where this ends up is basically a ruggedized digital camera with good optics and the processing power of a modern smartphone. We should all be aware of the price-vs-performance curve of those products over the past decade; I see the same potential here.

Wind measurement aside, I think these two aspects will be of interest to Hide members:

•XeroWind can also be used standalone or w/ conventional scopes
•No auto trigger or special rifles required. Product sold w/o license.

The one I know about is this, don't know the price or if they sell it to the public:

Venom

It still has a few quirks to solve:

- It is a little slow for some conditions that change rapidly.
- Wind measurement is made along the optical path, not the ballistic path. Depending on the case, large differences can be encountered.
- It measures wind in only one (or was it two?) zones and relies on an algorithm, does not automatically scan all the entire ballistic path and then decides on an which algorithm to use, and how many "wind zones" are needed depending on the range and condition.
- Ballistic integration with the program that gives the firing solution must take into account several second degree factors for an accurate prediction at very long ranges, and these factors must be measured/estimated for each type of bullet.

I checked up on some of these at SHOT this year, and I wasn't impressed. There is a lot of work going on - but nothing on the horizon for products you could even beta test, much less re sell. I ended up talking to a few folks while looking for a Terrapin replacement since wind is the largest non-deterministic factor now that we can range reliably and have functional ballistics calculators.
