Think about the initial discussion..... should a convicted felon (any I don't know what he was convicted of) be in possession of a gun, on the news, bringing attention to himself, doing something that is the subject of great debate?? The guy, irrespective of what you think of his cause, brought this on himself and simply was not acting in his own best interest. I think we learned in kindergarten that two wrongs don't make a right..... in this case, one of those wrongs will land that guys ass in jail.
We can argue who should or shouldn't carry a gun as well, but no one in law enforcement is going to allow their CI to carry a gun.... that is movie bullshit. If someone's CI is carrying a gun, they are not doing it working with the police... you can't make decisions for people when they are not in your presence.

Don't confuse "convicted felon" and disorderly persons offenses that occurred and have not seen the inside of a courtroom. A convicted felon is someone who has plead guilty or been found guilty of a felony. That would be after court, they plead guilty to it or were found guilty of it by a judge or even perhaps by a jury of their peers. Prior to taking a plea deal or going to trial you should remember all of what came before that event occurred. If you don't have the ability to think all of that through first, then perhaps you shouldn't own a gun.......

OK whatever but it was not I who said this guy could not have a gun. He refused to carry one to defend his country, so it is he who decided, as a matter between him and God that he would not carry a gun. Not that I expect you to get it. But if you think your family will be safer around armed violent felons move to Chicago.
It would also seem that thy guy who was the subject of this thread isn't too smart, even though we already established that. He was convicted of impersonating a law enforcement officer in 1986. 20 years later gets caught with a gun that he can't have and gets in trouble again. Now, fast forward, the same guy, pretends to "police the border, while armed'"...and gets himself in some shit again...... you cannot fix stupid... maybe someone that "not smart" should not have a gun.....?
