Your 2 cents, best ultra long range cartridge ?

Re: Your 2 cents, best ultra long range cartridge ?

Damn, day late, dollar short; nobearsyet was on top of it. While I am a kook at best to this and I'll probably get trolled over it, I have heard from some people who tried COBB's precursor to the current MCR, the three piece receiver version that required you to change the magwell between calibers that the .300WM and .338LM were both surprisingly accurate at and past 1000 yrds and 1500 yrds respectively with good conditions. Still, the RMD looks to be the best option, if they deliver.

Thanks,I also found this AR style .338 Lapua Mag..

I would say that is a $5000 roll of the dice. Wish you the best of luck.

The other point that is troubling is when people want to start to make veiled or not so veiled comments to being on a two way range (especially inside CONUS) </div></div>

No worries it's not inside the CONUS,not even close, but it is a "two way range".

They make semi-autos in 300 WSM, .338 Lapua, .338 Lapua, .300 Remington Ultra Mag, .375 CheyTac, .408 CheyTac

The CheyTac's are expensive but the others aren’t really all that much. </div></div>

Yes Tom,checked out the site and thank you, will keep them in mind. The .338 Lapua,.300 Rem. ultra mag.,.408 CheyTac are nice and I didn't know anyone else was marketing a .50BMG semi-auto,nice to know thank you.

There are CNC machined solids available that may give some hard target capabilty without being AP rounds. The 338 Lapua is becoming very popular and the ammo is more likely to be found in gun shops than the CheyTacs. Questions for the OP, are you LEO? If you are, why can you not possess AP rounds? Many states exempt LEO from the firearms restrictions placed on civilians. </div></div>

Thank you for the reply,No I am not a LEO,I wouldn't be in the U.S. and I doubt I would have access to AP rounds except for possibly .50cal BMG. The CheyTac .408 milled solids and the Barrett .416 milled solids would be more than satisfactory I believe. The non AP/API.50cal BMG would be more than enough really.

Thank you for your reply,my only concern with the .300WM(or even .338LM)is if it could deliver enough punch past 1,200 meters to be adequate against the possibility of hard plate steel plus a wearer with body armor.
