Rifle Scopes Your perferred reticle type

What type of reticle do you prefer over other types and if it depends on the weapon and role, than name a few and for what.

Personally I like the reticle you find on posp scopes, because the range finder on them I love since it's fast and accurate enough for me and the marks for windage work just as well for me at mil dot, only complaint is it lack marks going up and down. Plus for me it works as a great all around reticle to, since I perfer 100-400 yards.

But when ever I my firearms license, I want to give the msr reticle a try because it's has the range finder and all the marks I need to get a good hit if I have to aim off the reticle.

Personally I prefer a mil-dot or MLR stlyle reticle. Nice and simple for shooting plates at a distance. YMMV

Been using a MOA ( NP-R1 Nightforce) in all my guns. Just bought 2 FFP Mil so I am curious to see how I do with that. Might be swapping over.

NightForce MOAR and NP-R1 are my reticles of choice, both being moa based. For MIL, I would say MLR2.

I really like the ones you see in the movies that all those really cool digital readouts and stuff, I just haven't been able to find one for sale anywhere

aside from that, I like the ones that don't bounce when you pull the trigger, or have little curly hairs stuck to them

I don't own one yet? But I really like the Vortex EBR-2 on the Razor. I have the PST with the EBR1 and that is my fav of the ones I do own. I'm trying to save my pennies for a Razor, but a couple of really good deals fell in to my lap and it has wiped my out. So much for saving? Lol

I guess I'm pretty easy to please. I prefer just a standard Duplex or Post. I really like to try to keep it simple, just how it would be if the chips were down and half my gear was gone or used up. To me, its a challenge to see how good I am at holding over/under or off to one side or the other.

I like MOA reticles, Vortex EBR-1 MOA, Nightforce NPR 1 and Sightron MOA 2, I like the vortex better, hashmarks are smaller and it has numbers on 10,20 & 30 moa depending on the model.

Milliradian is the way to go.

Bushnell HDMR G2. Best reticle period in my opinion.

MILDOT (half mils even better) for unknown distances, but known target sizes and holding for wind.

1/8 TARGET DOT and fine crosshair (or just fine crosshair) for target / bench shooting in a "controlled" environment.

red dot for CQB and pistols.

I am running the MRAD EBR-1 from Vortex right now...like it...but the HDMR G2 is on the way. The Vortex will be moving on soon.

MSR reticle is awesome. However, it was a bit to "noisy" for me. Maybe I just needed more time behind it. All of my S&B's have P4F reticles. Plain, simple, and not much to get in the way of the objective down range.

I like the IOR MP8 the best.

Lots of mil holdovers with a very small floating center dot that illuminates.

Waiting on a bushnell with the GAP reticule.

I prefer just a simple mildot, I don't like overly complicated, cluttered reticles. Any sort of EMDR with half-mil hash marks is perfect for me.

Not trying to light any fires, but are the "christmas tree" style reticles a current fad that will pass in time?

Some of the horus reticles (I hope I have this correct) that are offered by Leupold in their Mark 4's are just horrendous.

Some of them are so cluttered and compacted I can't see how they can be more useful than a mildot or emdr.

This is just my personal opinion based on not having to shoot at another person at long range with any type of reticle.

The only shooting I have ever done at another person is as a boy on the farm when we would have "BB" gun wars. Shoot each other with BB guns instead of cap guns. Also, a firecracker in a fresh cow patty makes for a great green claymore!

Fad, no, they are simply an advancement of the technology. Like anything else progress will change what we use and how we use it. But I will agree that some of the designs are excessively cluttered and busy. The standard Mil-dots have been used effectively for a LONG time and will continue to be used for much longer. However if a better mouse trap is available, why not use it?

I have no idea what will happen on the civilian side, but in the military (specifically Army) long range shooting community, Horus reticles are here to stay.

These reticles offer more accurate holds. Sure one can accurately hold wind and/or elevation without such a reticle. But with something like the Gen II XR you have hard points to hold. Also the half mil hashes making measurements for ranging a little easier.

I know it is not the latest flavor but I prefer plain mildot. It does not block the view though scope. With practice I have learned to use for holds and ranging. My thought in praticing and sticking with the mildot was why pay 3k for the beat glass just to fill it up with reticle?
