Hey all, I received a 4.5-14x44 Zeiss Conquest w/Rapid Z-800 reticle for X-mas. This is going to be put on my new TRG42 in .338LM. I know its a little under powered for the range of the gun, however finances, and the wife, say this scope is gonna live on this gun until next year. What think you all, is it gonna be decent enough at LR, or even ELR. Or should I try to sell/trade for something a bit better? The glass is awesome, and the reticle seems pretty cool. I'm just worried about magnification/objective size. Please chime in as I'm "fairly" new to LR shooting.

Hi
Don´t think you need to worry about the magnification, it is all you need. Of coarse some prefer more, but it is definetly not necessary.
What is more important is that you have lots of adjustment in elevation if you plan to use it at ELR.
I don´t know how it will stand the recoil from the 338 Lapua, but try and you will find out

Good luck

Re: Zeiss Conquest on TRG 42

Conquests are great scopes, but IMHO they're best suited for a hunting rifle. The 1" tube really limits the elevation adjustment range. If you decide to upgrade to a 30mm scope next year, you'll also need to change your mount setup.

That said, if it what you've got, you can make it work.

Re: Zeiss Conquest on TRG 42

You could make the scope work but a 30mm tube would be better. I'd check out the Bushnell 4200's that are on closeout everywhere. You could probably sell the Zeiss and pick up the Bushnell and not spend any money. You should have enough elevation to get you out to around 1000-1200yd but it will depend on target size if your magnification will be sufficient. I shoot 8" steel at 1000 in competition so I like to have at least 24x max power. I'm sure you'll be happy regardless what you do, I shot my friends TRG again today and it's one hell of rifle.

Re: Zeiss Conquest on TRG 42

The scope has 42.8 MOA of internal travel.

Get it set up, see how much of that you have left and it will dictate how far you can "dial" in the drop before you need to start using hold over to shoot out further

Re: Zeiss Conquest on TRG 42

You will need AT LEAST a 20 moa base for that scope.Glass is very nice, they are quite rugged, internals are solid and repeatable.Like was mentioned only negative is limited adjustment range.Use it, and by the time you're ready to upgrade it will be easy to sell.
