Rifle Scopes zeiss victory prf rangefinder?

So I've been thinking of swapping my leica 1600 crf out for a zeiss victory prf T rangefinder. I know it probably doesn't range as far, but i've been having consistency issues with the 2nd leica i have now. I returned a 1600 crf only to receive, from the factory, a more defective one - if that's possible.

I was considering the swaro but I had been reading that it was slower (not by alot though) and the divergence of the beam was a bit larger, and it was heavier.

I guess i don't really care about how heavy it is, i just want a rangefinder that is consistent and don't want to spend over 1000 for one.

What do you guys think? zeiss, or keep trying on the leica? or swaro? I have a 300 winmag and would like to range over 1000 yds. If anything, i'd like something that ranges farther just to know that "it's out of my range".

Just in case anyone's wondering, here's what i get to test my rangefinder on -- view from my deck - range houses, buildings, signes, roofs windows, signs, etc... from 90 yds (4-way stop) to a few miles (water tower way in the back). I even get to range through trees and stuff:

The zeiss is nice...I've got one and it works very well.

But watch this video to get a idea of what your possibly switching to in regards to beam size.

Get the Zeiss. I have one now, after going through 3 CRF 1200s, and have been really happy with it. I will likely never own another Leica RF. The Leica's work when they want too, the Zeiss works when you need it to. Although I like the size of the CRFs much better, the Zeiss ranges much further in a lot more different conditions. It is slow compared to the Leica, but at least you get a fricken range back.

i just spoke with neil at cameralandny and it sounds like leica will replace my current one again with a tested unit from them. crossing my fingers...

if this doesn't work, they said we can explore different options then (cameralandny).

Cameraland will take care of you, I've had nothing but great C.S. in my dealings with them.

I bought a Zeiss PRF from them awhile back and did a review on that unit. Overall I'm very impressed with my purchase.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but more beam divergence isn't always necessarily a bad thing. The wider the beam divergence the more likely you will be to get a reading on distant, non-reflective targets. Also, in a field situation, the ranges are taken ahead of time and plotted on a range card to minimise exposure of your laser when the enemy is active. In such a case an area beam is just as useful as a spot beam.

At any rate, I love my Zeiss PRF. I looked at the Swaro but was not able to see the reticle against most field backgrounds, though I am somewhat color blind. I am able to see the Zeiss reticle much better than the Swaro's.

I have gotten my Zeiss PRF to range to 1476 yards maximum under optimum conditions. As my rifle is effective to 1000 yards, that is more than enough range finding ability for my kit.

I have the swaro and it is the best rf for hunters because of the FOV and glass.

A few friends have the crf 1600 (updated model) and it always ranges further than the swaro, but only by 5% ish. The FOV is much smaller but it is better for the rock or steel shooter. If you have a defective one, send it back, they know what's up. Heaps were fubared.

Only one friend has the zeiss PRF. It is basically half way between the leica and swaro in use. It ranges basically as far, faster than the swaro, about the same as the leica, it is light, but large, it has a slightly larger FOV than the leica, but much smaller than the swaro.

If I were a hunter (which I am) then swaro

If I were a steel shooter, then leica

If I was short on cash, then zeiss

If I was flush with cash, the Vector IV's

I have zeiss prf and love it !!! Excellent glass, big field of view,bright reticle, fast and reliable reading out to 1100 yd, faster than leica 1600, i tried two units side by side , ranging 4 ft rocks at 900+ yds. For some reason leica couldn't range anything past 1200 yds : ( Per Zeiss manual, max ranging distance of prf 1300yds . Max i've ranged 1470yds. PRF is a good range finder if you shooting .308
For .300wm - get swaro...

I have the Zeiss. I like it better than the Swarovski and Leica offerings.

The Zeiss is fast and has a great reticle.

If you want to range over 1200 get the Swarovski.

Wow - That's interesting... i guess the vectronix has a nice round beam and strong... like the zeiss binos but stronger. It's interesting the shape of the other beams... swaro is vertical and narrow, leica 1600 is more horizonal. I wonder if the rangefinders in the test were the "best" of each brand.

The one i'm returning ranges pretty good to 900 - won't range rooftops past 700 yds... won't get a consistent reading over 1000 yds. it ranged a 900 yd chimney at 1796 then at 800 then ---, so i know it's defective. Worse than the one i had the 1st time. I'm still not convinced they are made to range reflective signs, like a stop sign or pedestrian crossing sign.

Man i wish i had the dough for the vectronix. So i guess, the swaro is pretty good. The divergence on the zeiss looks pretty big - but i guess in the field, that's not such a bad thing, i would just hate to get readings from things around it. I also heard that the new leupold RX1000i's aren't all that?? wow, i thought picking a rangefinder would be easier than this, this is like picking out a scope or rifle for that matter. haha!

You'd be surprised.

I was ranging a 8"(?) circle that was about 200 yards in front of trees with the Zeiss.

It ranged the tree's 9 out of 10 times instead of the circle.

Circle was at 620ish, and the Trees were about 860ish.

I'd have to sell my best gun and best scope to get a vectronix. I thought that youtube video was pretty informative about the divergence of the beams. You can even almost tell the strength by how bright the reflection was too i think. Does anyone have a plrf10 for sale for around $700 in perfect condition

Here's some cool stuff...pics taken through a Vector 21. The light pole in the second pic is probably 8" to 10" in diameter. Ranges are in meters. The ranging circle is one mil from edge to edge.It would cover 51.1" at the distance to pole is...

I've been using these 21's almost every day since last February and they never cease to amaze me!

Pat crashes yet another party Seriously, I also have the PRF and I like it fairly well. The only thing I would rather have is the Zeiss range-finding binoculars. Currently I have to spot with my binoculars and then use my PRF for a range, it just makes sense to have a combination unit and save on movement and time.

I hunt with a couple different guys that have the Ziess rangefinding binoculars and they are really good. I liked them better than the Leica Geovids I had at one time.

i guess that does make a bit of logical sense, to have both the binos for spotting then while ur looking to spot. man thise things are spendy though too. i guess i might not be that far gone yet

well maybe i'll go with the bushnell fusion 1600 arc's - seem to be the same price range... read a bunch of reviews on them. i think their beam is bigger than the leica's and blue-ish tint but seems like they range as far as i want them without spending 2600-3100$ for the zeiss binos.
Unless my leica works out that i'm getting back.
