I'll probably see it. I sincerely hope the story stays on task concentrating on the Intel and Ops guys who sacrificed and did all the work...and doesn't turn into an Obama love-fest.

Saw it. Did not strike me as an Obama lovefest at all. In fact Obama isn't a character that ever comes on screen. I dont like movies that take to long and the amount of time they spent on the intel gathering part of it could have been sped up a bit. Some will enjoy that part, I'd rather just have watched the last half of it. The "raid" scenes seemed to be in line with what one of the guys on the ground stated in an actual interview.

I've heard nothing but negative feedback on the film from military folks that have seen it and my civy friends seem to think it is just OK. Given how much the non-military public liked "the hurt locker", it would not surprise me to hear this film get similar unwarranted accolades from the the same crowd.

I might see it, but I would rather see a movie about the book "Lone Survivor" by Marcus Lutrell. It tells the story of 3 Navy Seals that died with valor in a firefight and Marcus is the only one that gets out. One of them was awarded the Medal of Honor.

I read "No Easy Day" on a flight this week. The trailer seems to fall in line with what is written. What is written is not a whole lot different than all the "documentaries" that are out. The intel gathering effort was respectfully recognized. It's a good read and profits go to beneift fallen SEALs. I'll buy another copy of the book before I see the movie.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I was trying to say that BHD did have support..."like Black Hawk Down". ZDT didn't get mil support and there's still no evidence that they got any govt support. The film makers and studio have said over and over again that they worked from open source info. There will be an investigation it sounds like but I doubt them being cleared will stop the speculation by folks who want to believe thay Obama ordered CIA and JSOC to tell them everything.

zero dark thirty was almost done with production in May '11 when the raid went down (so i heard) and apparently the producers decided to capitalize and basically re-did the whole movie. All this is just what i've heard...

im going to go see it, if nothing else, it should atleast be entertaining.

WASHINGTON - Lawmakers are accusing the CIA of misleading the makers of the Osama bin Laden raid film, "Zero Dark Thirty," by telling them that harsh interrogation methods helped track down the terrorist mastermind.
The film shows waterboarding and similar techniques as important to finding bin Laden in Pakistan, where he was killed by Navy SEALs.
A three-year Senate investigation showed that such methods produced no useful intelligence. The CIA's acting director, Michael Morell, recently contradicted that, saying harsh techniques did produce some tips that led to bin Laden.
In a letter to the CIA this week, Sens. Dianne Feinstein, John McCain and others asked Morell to back up his claim and to share documents showing what the filmmakers were told.
The CIA says it will co-operate.

Saw the movie couple nights ago...

It wasn't exactly what I thought it would be per the commercials I saw for it. It was more focused on the 'tracking' that lead up to the actual raid. No sucking of the Pres in this movie at all. Some waterboarding (see pic).

Again, it's more a movie about the female CIA agent who gathered the intel all the years leading up to the raid and the kill. Not alot of time spent on the actual raid...about 22 mins out of the 2.5 hrs was the raid if that helps.

Now as far as the film goes (ZDT). I thought it was ok, not best picture status at least. Kinda drags on as the director really wants the audience to feel the depths of disillusion and pangs of defeat that the protagonist feels. But like all good Hollywood endings the bad guy guy gets it in the end. Oh I'm sorry, did I just ruin the ending for everyone?

Id wait for the DVD.

I had dinner with Danny Dietz sr a couple weeks ago, a movie is in the making with Mark Whalberg and a couple other famous guys. He also said the family is writing a book about Danny

I thought that it dragged on a little as well, its 2:36 long. I was hoping for more of a action flick aka Act of Valor. But the story line certainly makes the lead CIA caseworker look good. As to if that's deserved or not. Only those in Langley know for sure.

IMO any accusations that the film is designed to make President Obama look good are way off line. I don't think that its out to brag up the CIA either as it depicts its missteps, in-fights, etc. along the way.

This is a movie of the chase for Bin Laden, with the Seals a chapter at the end. A story more about the work of the CIA in the hell holes of the world and the biggest sh**hole, Pakistan.

I found it entertaining. I'm tired of movies that try to get an entire story covered in 90 minutes and really enjoyed the fact that Zero Dark Thirty took their time to tell their story (historically accurate or not).

I don't use Rotten Tomatoes as a definite guideline but as of today, the rating is at 94% which is pretty damn high for them. I'm going to go watch it regardless of the reviews or agendas.

It's pretty much a tribute to the CIA agent "Maya" who, at least from the story told herein, was a pitbull who wouldn't give up on finding UBL.

If the woman is half of what she is made out to be in this film, then we all owe her our deepest gratitude.

I have no knowledge of the technical aspects of the raid, but it was entertaining to the uninformed novice (me).

A completely different movie than Seal Team Six.

+1 Saw it tonight with the wife. We thought it was great and would see it again. The woman who played Maya was terrific.

Saw it today with the wife. We both enjoyed it and she's not much into action flics. It has some very intense scenes.

I would definitely recommend reading "No Easy Day" as a companion to the movie. Same story from a different point of view.

It's mostly about Maya's search, and the raid sort of just happens, without any backstory to the preparations for the assault on the compound by the SEALs. This was probably intentional, but it left me wanting more.

If you are expecting two and half hours of shooting and blowing stuff up, you'll be disappointed. It's more of a thiller and mystery type movie.

Good flick...

Actually, there were 3 in the fight with Marcus, then several more died in rescue attempts, I agree with you though, this would make a good documentary. I've seen most of these type movies that have came out in the last year or so and it seems that the facts could get blurred for the sake of entertainment. Marcus' book, Chris Kyle's book, and several others would make great documentary type films.

It was incredible. Don't let the low IMDb rating get you down. Over 7% of raters gave it a 1/10. Presumably because they were butthurt by the "torture" scenes.
