What to visit with my 90 year old parents on their last long road trip?

My parents are in their 90’s and in good enough health to make a road trip from Sacramento to Rapid City SD for a family reunion. My father has dementia so 5-6 hours in the car is near the max and air travel is out of the question.

I have Sacramento to Boise planned so your help on Boise to Rapid City would be greatly appreciated. Some light walking would ok with most of it viewed from the car. A different return route would be ok also.

For those that know those areas any input is appreciated.

Rifle Scopes Mil Zero but Range in Yards

Has anyone zerodd a mil reticle to 100 meters at a 100-yard range. The ranges I have access to are in yards and don't live in a place where I can set my own target out since I live in an urban area. Any idea what the rough mil holdover is x mils low or x mils high when zeroing for a 100 meter zero at 100 yards? Hopefully this makes sense, thanks.

HVAC Question

I'm trying to be preemptive before summer really hits hard. My HVAC is dying a slow death, American Standard. Multiple companies have said same thing:
1) Needs to be 3.5 (company A) or even 4 ton (company B).
2) Return air is 16" and should be either 20" (company A) or 18" company B.
3) Add another register in kitchen/breakfast area
a) Company A wants to replace current 6" ducts with 7" and and another 7" with a 4x10 register.
b) Company B wants to keep 6" ducts and add a 6x12 register with 7" duct.
4) Company A sells Daiken, Company B (Bryant/Carrier).
5) Company A will add a MERV 15 filter system for 1500 more dollars, Company B, MERV 12 included at the air handler.
6) Company A puts 2 new drain pans in, one is an overflow. Not so company B.

Company A's cheapest price is 6K more than Company B. The most expensive from Company B which is full variable speed compressor and fan is only 400 bucks more than than the single stage variable fan from Company A.

Company B's price is more inline with quotes from 2.5 years ago (minus ductwork that nobody picked up on). Roughly $2k/ton. I grew up in a family business that did this type of work; but my father retired 25 years ago and has passed, so I'm completely out of the loop.

Daiken's warranty is unbeatable (12/12) and transferrable. However, I really don't want to be in this house more than 4 more years if at all possible. Is Daiken really 5K+1.5K more quality than Carrier?

Bolt effect on accuracy?

I've got an AR15 with a White Oak Armament 18" SPR barrel with a cheap no name BCG from AIM Surplus. I've tried several ladders with it, but haven't had luck getting any decent groups. I've done a Varget ladder with 69gr SMK bullets, and a AA2520 ladder with 77gr SMK bullets, and most groups end up in the 1.5-2" area. Optic is a 3-15x SWFA. Could the bolt be having an issue on accuracy?

I don't believe this is me misdriving the gun. I feel like these are good trigger pulls. I have a large AR in 6.5 Creedmoor, which I shoot .75-1" with, and several bolt guns which shoot well under 1". Anyone have any suggestions for me?

Edit - More info:
My particular barrel is 1 7" twist rate. It's a stainless barrel, no flutes. It has a Geissele gas block on it that was pinned on by a gunsmith (ADCO in Ohio). They also coated the exterior of the barrel with a black coating.

The upper receiver is a blem BCM upper, with a thin coat of Loctite 620 retaining compound on the barrel extension to take up any space between the upper and the barrel extension.

Trigger is a Rock River Arms 2 stage trigger.

I do have some 55gr handloads that it shoots 1.25", and it shoots Fiocchi 55gr ammo around 1.4". I'd like to shoot heavier bullets though, and I believe this rifle can do better.

I tried some Gorilla 77gr 223 ammo (smk bullet) in it and it was a 3" group. I then shot the same load from my 223 Tikka Varmint, and it produced a .5" group.

Edit 2:
I took a borescope picture of my gas port. Could this be the source of my problem?

Possible bedding of a MDT ACC chassis?!

Hey y’all I had a quick question….. I switched my barreled action from an XLR to an MDT chassis and the accuracy has completely gone off. Now a little background the barrel has 2300 rounds of 6.5 Creedmoor on it and I did a heavy clean of the barrel. I then put 200 rounds through it and it still is not shooting the half MOA groups I was used to. Is it possible that I would have to bed an aluminum chassis? I also was able to borescope my rifle and did not see a carbon ring. The scope is tightened on rings as well to spec. Thanks for your help. Basically I’m wondering if my barrel hasn’t gone out could it be the chassis?

Rust……

I keep my reloading gear, firearms, etc. all in my basement.

I run a dehumidifier during all the spring months, through fall until the humidity drops in the winter time.

My firearms don’t rust, but all of my dies are starting to get little patches of surface rust on them.

I’ve purchased the little pouches of desiccant (similar to what’s in a bag of beef jerky) and put a few in each die box, but I still get the oxidation.

Will coating my dies with a light coat of oil fix this?

Are there any other remedies that will work?

Everything still works as it should but it’s annoying as hell.

Night Vision TRADE: My legit, factory new PEQ-15 for your Swarovski 115mm Objective!

I have a brand new, legit (never owned by any .GOV), full power (full 45mW, not the limp-wristed 35mW domestic law enforcement model), full original factory kit L3 PEQ-15 in FDE.

Want to trade for a Swarovski 115mm Objective.

I have the 95mm BTX with Swaro Armor, so if you want to step down in magnification and trade your 115mm for my 95mm and maybe something else on my end, that would work too.

Suppressors Solved: Area 419 Adapter and TBAC Ultra9 Strike!

Edit: If you want the short answer...

I want to thank Josh and the folks at PVA for doing such an above and beyond amount of work to check this for me! In reality the problem was not theirs but another vendors.

Specifics on the resolution are here: PVA Tests EVERYTHING with results!

--------------------

Original post:

So!

I picked up a TBAC Ultra9 in 6.5.

My buddy @Baron23 Told me about the Area 419 Hellfire break / suppressor attachment system.

I went out and purchased a boat of their adapters and mounts so I can use them with the 5 suppressors I have in the pipe.

I installed the Hellfire mount on the barrel of my TRG-22, installed the 419 TBAC Ultra series mount on the supressor, and took the whole shebang to the range.

Without the TBAC installed, the rifle is dead on target.

When the suppressor was installed… the POI shifted 13 mils high and left.

WTF: I called TBAC and ask them what the think is happening… “You‘re getting baffel strikes, or at least the end-cap.”

I look, and sure as shit, there is a light copper trace inside the opening in the endcap!!!

Looking at the Area 419 TBAC CB mount I notice a very minor amount of blue loctite on the mating surface. That MUST be the issue!!!

Area 419, being awesome in general, sends me a replacement CB TBAC Mount just in case…

In the meanwhile, I install the TBAC CB Brake / supressor adapter, and test fire: no POI shift with the TBAC CB 30 cal brake / adapter. (No washer, per TBAC, I just screw it on the barrel to ensure everything works.)

I get the new 419 suppressor mount and install that.

Test firing the Area 419 Hellfire adapter setup with the new CB mount, THERE IS A 2 MIL TO THE LEFT AND HIGH POI SHIFT!

I put the CB brake back on and test fire, no POI shift.

Has anyone had weirdness with Area 419 Hellfire suppressor mounts?

Seems rounds are sliding on the inner surface of the end cap opening when using the Area 419 system.

What might be causing this strange grouping pattern?

What metric typically causes a load to shoot two distinct seperate but very tight groups? I'm sure it's a common issue in development. I'm thinking it's on the end of a charge weight node or the seating depth is right at minimum jump and bullet variation is putting it over ethe edge. Charge weight workup made this load appear like the good one but I'll admit I haven't had enough time to fine tune it. Might also try seating .010 deeper. Was in a rush to get ready for a match this weekend so it will have to do, but curious what direction to go afterwards. Thoughts?

Eta: It's not me, this rifle with other loads and my other rifles will shoot tiny 1 hole groups no problem.
