Since when does the US CDC provide “technical assistance” to State Police?

Asking for a friend… what type of “technical assistance” does the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention provide to State Police on an accident involving lab monkeys… that they urge people to not have contact with?

“The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the agency was providing “technical assistance” to state police.”

What are some of the things that go through your head before a stage ?

Had a great conversation about the mental game side of competitions and what causes people to miss?

What gets into your head before a stage, do some stages give you more anxiety than other stages ?

Is there a method you use to get out of your own head ?

Hand Carved Hunting Rifle

I have a pretty cool project going on. Approximately 2-3yrs in length. That’s finally getting close to completion. I think you guys may find interesting.

It started with a Claro Walnut blank that was gifted to me by a good friend of mine. I previously built a wood gun on another walnut blank that turned out excellent. I built that first rifle for my oldest son. So I decided to build another classic hunting rifle from this blank as well.

I started with all the metal work with the following components:

BAT Machine long action
Bartlein 24in 1:10 twist barrel # 4 contour
Sunny Hill BDL bottom metal
Jewell trigger
Custom Vias style muzzle brake
300 win mag

Next came carving the blank. I’m fortunate enough to be close friends with two very talented local gunsmiths…Dave Bruno from Bruno Precision Rifles…and Brian Swintowsky. Dave did all the metal work. Brian is one of the few guys left in the US that will hand carve a blank. So he got to work on it about 2 weeks ago.

03185993-615A-46E7-924F-91B6180369C5.jpeg

Started with some rough shaping the blank into a Monte Carlo style stock.

I decided to have Brian put in 1/4in of cast off into the stock. I had this done on my first wood gun and it makes the rifle incredibly easy and comfortable to get behind quickly. You can see the cast off here.

6FA89FEA-189A-452D-9AE2-46AA32412431.jpeg

Next Brian rubbed the stock a bit with some oil to see what kind of color and grain was popping out.

Here’s a little better picture of the rough shaping and the color potential.

Here Brian put in the comb and a dark walnut 45* end cap. As well as a dark walnut cap on the bottom of the grip.

Rifle was glass and pillar bedded. Then had the first coat sprayed on.

Can really see the grain and color coming out now.

Another coat of spray.

Final coat of spray is on. And the stock is polished now.

Next Brian will do all of the hand checkering, install the sling studs, and decelerator pad.

Once the rifle is completed the plan is to put a few shots down the pipe. Then send all the metal out for Melonite treatment.

More updates to follow as the checkering is being done. Hope you guys can appreciate a carved stock. Not many guys left doing it all by hand like this. It’s a dying art.

Roid rage or just another day at work?

Precision Rifle Gear I need the gadgets!

Hey y'all,

I'm starting to get into long range shooting and realizing there are more tools needed for this trade than any. I'm used to eotechs and lasers with the farthest shot is 50 yards not 1000 :ROFLMAO:. I'm about to get a 6.5 cm built by Alamo Precision, but in the mean time while it gets built I will try to gather more gear to make me worth a damn with that rifle. From my understanding I need a solid range finder, wind meter and some good math skills.

The range finder I have been looking into is the Sig Sauer Kilo 5k and a Kestrel Elite 5700 elite wind meter.

What do y'all think, I'm open to all suggestions and sorry if this is the wrong thread to start because Im sure there are similar ones out there.

Thanks for the help!

Rifle Scopes ZCO840 vs March FX 5-42

I have pretty much convinced myself that my next scope purchase will be the ZCO840. Mainly used for finally getting into to PRS but also interested in shooting the local 600 yard F-Class matches at my club. Prairie dog shooting also when possible.

Had a guy on another forum asking why in the world I’d choose the 840 when the March beats it in so many categories (on paper) in terms of size, weight, FOV, close focus, zoom range etc.

To be honest, until then, I had never looked at this March nor knew they even had PRS style FFP scopes.

I know this may not even a fair question since the 840 isn’t even released but I don’t think anyone here has any doubt that ZCO will knock it out of the park with this new release. And that MPCT3x reticle sure looks sweet.

So do I ignore what that guy says and stick with what I want or should I at least be considering the March as a possibility??

The LRHS 3-12x44 Ahead of the Market.

When the 3-12 LRHS came out I think there were a lot less people willing to drop 1k on a scope, and most of the market for FFP "tactical" scopes were long range shooters, primarily. I think the crowd here has changed a lot over the years. With the constant drone, of that reticle is too thin, that scope is too heavy, and I can't see the reticle in the dark woods. The 3-12 LRHS/LRTS is exactly what many people are looking for. I think it was just 6 years too early.

NEW SWITCH BARREL Rifle. Accurate Mag ASR

Hey all, here’s a look at a really interesting rifle tucked away. This was the Accurate Mag ASR submission. Finished 2nd to the MRAD for what it’s worth. But the price point is what’s really attractive. They’re AIMING for $4000 with 2 barrels, potentially 2 calibers.

ETA: the target price with multiple barrels is what they’re hoping to get too. Just keep that in mind guys. Don’t want anyone biting anyone’s head off if that doesn’t come to fruition. I do believe they can hit $4k with 1 barrel, but 2 would be amazing. If they hit 2 calibers that would be NUTS.

2 out of 10 rounds ~50FPS off

I'm trying to resolve/identify why 1 or 2 rounds out of a 10 round string would absolutely trash an otherwise great SD/ES for my .308. Using a Magnetospeed v3.

Heres my data from two 10-round strings:

String 1
SD: 24
ES: 79
String 2:
SD: 19
ES: 60

2 rounds in both strings were WAY off, one much faster, one much slower.
If I remove those two from the math, I'm damn near single digit SDs and ESs below 20.

Here are my components:
  • Alpha Brass (once fired, and annealed)
  • Federal match primers
  • Sierra matchkings
  • RL15
  • neck tension: .0025-.003.
  • Primer pockets uniformed and flash-holes deburred.
  • .015 jump
I'm using an RCBS chargemaster lite. I have always had a hunch that its the problem. So what I did was weigh all my primed cases, record. Then throw the powder, weigh the case plus the powder, and then see if the scale was at least consistent. Seemed so... However, this does nothing to check the precision of the scale.

What is the likelihood that its simply the margin of error of my scale? its not the most top-of-the-line, and since it says +/- .1gr, I would think that could make a significant impact...

I have been told to try different primers, perhaps CCI BR... Can a primer really make a 50 FPS difference?

What else could it be?

Spotters I have to admit, Swarovski makes damn fine spotting glass!

I’ve been using my Hensoldt Spotter 45 with Tremor4 Reticle, but damned if my 95mm Swaro BTX — with 1.7x TC installed — doesn’t get me substantially closer to the target. Sure, the complete lack of a reticle sucks a bit, and seems to be an area where Swaro could make etched 1.7x TC’s with different reticle options, since they’re not that expensive.

Anywho, even with the TC installed, it is still critically sharp with minimal CA. I suck something awful at TTL photos, and my new iPhone 13 Pro Max Blah Blah Blah makes it even more difficult, but I managed to haphazardly snap a couple of modestly representative TTL pix — zero post processing, Parkinsons Shake and frustrations galore, so there’s some motion blur, but even with that, you get the idea.

In my position, how would you handle giving a two week notice?

I had a thread running here, roughly a month ago concerning my occupational exposure to fiberglass insulation. Most replies consisted of “run now” and “contact OSHA asap”.

I contacted OSHA, and the employer bullshitted their way around the claim stating that they have done in-house testing and no protective equipment was needed, yada yada. Quitting immediately without anything lined up just wasn’t an option, as I couldn’t survive the financial hit.

I never furthered the issue, because I have already checked out of the job mentally. I have discussed the issue with co-workers and I’m left with not much more than a shrug. Hey, the saying goes “You can lead a horse to water….”

Thankfully, I’ve landed another gig that is very promising, but it’s an overnight shift which sucks (7pm-7am). My effective start date is the 31st of this month. I would like to leave my current job with grace (as much as they disregard employee health) as best I can. I just no longer have any interest in going back another day.

Coming home covered in glass fibers, bringing them into your vehicle & home isn’t much of interest to me any longer. I have been with this employer for four years now, and aside from all of this I greatly respect the relationships I have built with the people I work with.

How would all of y’all go about resigning in grace, given my situation?

I appreciate any and all suggestions, just please keep them appropriate to the situation. Thanks.

Investing/Stocks

With all the threads about retiring, the bug to start investing/playing the stock market has its teeth in me.

I’m in my lower 30’s, and want to start something of a nest egg so one day I can retire and not worry about things. This is one area I know nothing.

The wife has us on a Dave Ramsey plan to be debt free in so many years, but I also think investments are a big part of it.

So where do I start, and how the hell do you play stocks? Baby steps for now.
