In the early morning, 12 elk were freezing to death in the Kettle River south of Barstow, in Ferry County.

Six of the animals didn’t survive the day. But the other six did, thanks to more than two dozen men and women who spent their Christmas Eve rescuing them from the frigid water.

Brothers-in-law Jeff Stuart and Jordan Fish were out coyote hunting at around 7 a.m. Dec. 24 when they saw cows and calves that had fallen through the ice and gotten trapped. About 40 elk stood on the far side of the river. They’d either crossed successfully or opted against it when they saw what happened to the first 12.

Stuart called his wife, Rylee Stuart, to let her know he was going to get some rope in Barstow, then head out onto the ice to try and pull the struggling animals out.

“I told him I thought that was a terrible idea,” Rylee Stuart said. “My husband, he’s a very stocky man, so he’s not very light, and so him on the thin ice — I thought that was a terrible idea.”

Could someone tell me what tripod I should get, make and model and what head and other accessories I need, it’s main purpose will be coyote hunting at night with thermal rifle and standing and scanning , I’m 5’10, as of right now I don’t have any rails on guns but that will change in future but will have to go clamp style for now, pretty open on price, want the most stable I can get, won’t be carrying far. Looking for a new cal to play with. We'll I guess cartridge to play with.
Shooting is mostly 100 yards to 1760 80% of time and out to 2000 yards on occasion. Prolly do more out to 2000 yard shooting now. I have plans to visit rebel ridge 1 or 2 times a year to shoot to 2600 yards.
My powder I've stocked up on is imr 8133 and it would have to use that because shortages ect. No bigger than 30 cal and .535 bolt face. My suppressor is only 30 cal and bolt is that and for my nucleus don't go any bigger. I currently do a lot of shooting with 7mm-300 win mag which is great. But I do want to get away from the belt for honestly no reason in just getting away from it for this barrel.

I was just wondering what all the pistol shooters on the Hide were looking to add to their collection this coming year.

I carry a full size 1911 in 45ACP daily, and have decided after trying several different plastic fantastics and ending up getting rid of them all, that I am sticking with the 1911 platform.

I've gone back and forth on a single or double stack 9mm, and I think I've finally settled on my next acquisition. A double stack Rock Island. I don't want to spend the coin on a STI or some other high dollar 2011 and decide I don't like it, so this fits the bill nicely.

I'd like to even get it milled for a red dot and jump into that pond.

So what are the rest of you looking at for the coming year?

I posted here because I think 22 is a little different..or maybe it’s not but mostly we are spotting from 25 to 300 yards..Will 15x Binos work? Or do I need a spotter? I have about a grand and the more I research the deeper the rabbit hole gets..So what are you guys using for the NRL22 matches and PRS22 matches? And Happy New year everyone!!
