Keep Impact + Foundation or get an AI???

Hey y’all, a little more than a year ago I got bit by the precision/bolt action bug pretty hard. I met up with a couple of guys from the Hide at a PRS match at Cresson (RIP) and shot a match borrowing one of their guns. It was the most fun of any match type I’ve ever shot, and the people were amazing. Unfortunately, the gun I borrowed was an Impact action, in a Foundation stock, with a Tangent Theta scope, and you can’t go backwards so I dropped the coin and built the same thing in 6mm Creedmoor (with their help and guidance - awesome dudes).

Once they helped me get it setup, I went shooting with them around Thanksgiving last year and that was the last time the trigger was pulled. Owning a business, having 2 year old and another on the way, I’m spread pretty thin and getting the time to travel somewhere from central Dallas that has the distance to use this laser beam can be challenging.

Here’s my question: I feel that the utility of my current setup is fairly one dimensional. The rifle weighs as much as a truck axle (but boy is it a sweet shooter). I’m wondering if I switched to something like an Accuracy International, which has a quick change barrel system, I could put a shorty .308 barrel on and shoot some under 1000 nearby (and hunt), then throw the 6mm on and shoot a match, and have more utility and greater shooting frequency.

My fear is two fold:
1) the AI just doesn’t feel as sweet as the Foundation setup since it’s a chassis system, and it’s lighter. The Foundation really does dampen shock and vibration, but I’ve never shot an AI, so I can’t make the comparison.
2) I could be kidding myself and ultimately I don’t have the time to shoot regardless of setup/utility, and now I’ve sunken further cost into this endeavor. I know it’s hard for someone else to answer on this point, but feel free to share your thoughts/experience.

I’ve thought about switching to a Proof carbon barrel to lighten my current 28” M24 Bartlein, likely making it more wieldy, but I still wouldn’t have the utility of a quick change barrel.

Thoughts?

Advice please: Cataract surgery vs iron sights

Hey Guys,

In a couple weeks I'm gonna have surgery on both eyes (two weeks apart one eye each visit). I've been told that they're gonna insert a lens in each eye, and that I have a choice of whether I want near-sighted or far-sighted lenses installed. My eyes are bad enough now that I can't read the large freeway signs (that hang across all lanes announcing major route options), so the surgery is necessary. I can choose to have one near-sighted and one far-sighted lens as a combination for both eyes--I've been told by two people who don't shoot that they've done that, and the brain takes over and interprets without the viewer's conscious effort to make an adjustment on their focus.

I've worn glasses ever since I was 4 or 5 years old. I've never been able to shoot with a rifle's iron sights. Even with glasses, I couldn't see a 100-yard bullseye well enough to distinguish a center or a distinct perimeter. It seems that I have that opportunity now with a corrective lens installed.

However, more importantly, I'd very much prefer to see the front sight on my CCW weapon, a 1911, if I ever need. Which lens would you have installed in your dominant (right) eye for rifle iron sight target shooting if you were considering a 1911 as the main priority? I always shoot with both eyes open for all shooting platforms, if that makes any difference (shotgun, [scoped]rifle, pistol).

Thank you!

Night Vision IR lasers FP vs commercial

Starting my dive into the NV world. Picked up a single milspec L3 PVS 14, helmet, and Wilcox Mount. Need a laser for my rifle and Trying to decide on which one. Budget is going be $1500 or less. Much too poor for a mawl or any of those other Gucci gang lasers.

That being said I could have swore I’ve seen full power laser come up every so often for sub $2k. Am I wrong?

Also, for using a pvs14 is using a FP laser needed? What is the useful range of a commercial spec laser? I keep reading that they are basically useless.

Will be mounted on an 18” SPR for now until I buy a LMT MLC pistol.

Do you use your Illuminator often that comes on the PEQs and DBALs? Half tempted to just get that cheap tnvc laser.

Night Vision Battle of the Binos! Which is best, and why?

This is an “All Skate” thread. Feel free to chime in with your thoughts and feelings.

I have seven (7) different sets of binos — L3 2376 PVS-31A (x2), L3 WP DTNVG, L3 WP DTNVS with RPO Glass, L3 WP BNVD-UL SG, L3 WP RNVG, L3 2376 1531, and a set of GP ANVIS-6.

Which is best, and why? If you have cash to burn, which one is your best option? (Hint: it’s NOT the PVS-31A).

More to come. 😁

But for now, Happy Thanksgiving to y’all! It’s turkey time!

THOT shot in the twat

Ran across this on another board but haven't seen it here.

Hopefully this moment of zen cuckery and vaginal discharge.....

...will lighten the mood in general.

I thought about a poll to choose the thread title, but polls are gay...

So you guys and gals decide:

* THOT shot in the twat

* Vaginal discharge

* .380 in the lady

maybe we should all just be happy that like in Christmas Story, she didn't "shoot her eye out".....

or ????

1 mile plus- .338LM vs 30 cal magnums

Reading through multiple threads online it seems many people suggest going with a 338 size magnum for consistent shooting at 1 mile plus. Running numbers through my shooter app, it appears a 30 cal magnum pushing a 230 atip, or 250 atip will be a better long range performer compared to a 338LM pushing say a 300gr berger.

I'm looking at a 230 atip running 2925 fps (300 prc) and a 300 gr berger hybrid running 2725 fps (338LM- 26" barrel). Out to 2000 yds it appears the 230 atip would retain more velocity, as well as less drop and less wind drift. I've spent the last year running my 300 PRC with success at the 1500-2000yd range but I would like to consistently go further.

Curious why many people point to the 338 as an advantage past say a mile or so when the 30 cal magnums (300 norma would be a step above my prc even) appear to be a better performer when looking at the data?

Can some one explain this logic to me?

We are capable of produing enough oil to run the country yet prices at the pump go up because of decreased OPEC production. Still, we export our oil?

While I fear more government oversite, and regulations, wouldnt it be wise to keep our oil here and lower the price? Tell OPEC to go fuck themselves with all their dirty crude?

Educate me.

White oak armament SPR barrels?

I'm working on a mk12-ish build and was gonna get a bartlein or kreiger barrel from compass lake. But WOA is having a black friday deal on their SPR barrels for less than half the price of a CLE. Seems like both companies are highly regarded here from what I've seen. Anyone know what blanks WOA uses or recommend one over the other? This would be running DMR/gas gun matches out to 700ish and just because I want a mk12.

Powder for 223

Sorry if this has been beaten to death. I'm new to reloading. (Loading for first time next week.)

I have 55 grain spire points and 73 grain eld-m for my 223. Its a stag varminter, 24" bull barrel. 8 twist.

A friend of my has 2 pounds of ramshot tac that he's willing to sell. Been reading about it, and some don't seem to like it for smaller grain bullets? Is this true? If so what other powders would you suggest, that is in a perfect world we're I could actually find it for future reference. I'm trying to pull as much accuracy out of this as possible. Thanks.
