XM7 worries from the field.

The Army already knew early-on that the M14 was a non-starter when they did the classified force-on-force exercises at Fort Benning using captured Type 56s and RPDs vs M14s and M60s before any major US combat forces were deployed to Vietnam in 1965. The OPFOR Platoons equipped with 7.62x39 out-lasted the BLUE FORCES M14/M60 combo, then ran them down like dogs. They could sustain more fire on initial contact, support flanking and bounding longer, and still have plenty of ammo for overrunning/actions-on, consolidating & reorganizing, then prepping for counter-attack without need for resupply.

7.62x51 simply doesn’t support that at all. Almost everyone goes Black really fast, and direct combat support duty positions have to give up their mags to the line just to scrape by. PSG, PL, RTO, Combat Medic, FOs, etc. have to hand over their ammo and someone has to redistribute it to the Fire Teams in the Rifle Squads.

Basic load for the M14 was 5 mags, with unit discretion on augmenting as they could.

5 mags of 7.62x51 is heavier than a lot of people think, even when not carrying much else.

30rd 7.62x39 mags aren’t exactly lightweight either, but still provided a better UBL for OPFOR and real-world NVA, insurgents/VC/militia. Warsaw Pact and Chicom chest harnesses allowed carriage of more rounds for the same weight.

The AR-15 of course took round count to a totally new level of form factor, weight, low recoil, and ease of training. We still kept belt-fed 7.62x51 weapons at the Platoon-level, and then looked for a Squad-Level belt-fed Light Machinegun in the 1970s to balance out the weapons mix.

Israel/iran

looks like others want to join the fray, perhaps trying to take advantage of the chaos.

Let's not get crazy here. For that kind of payload you need a jumbo jet. And not a 787.
Didn't we try modifying B-52's
Had to chop out structure?
i hate that politicians feel they can be so flippant about other people being blown the fuck up.

Desert Precision Gunworks 22LR Action Updates

Yes, But will be implemented later. Priority will be to have a bullet proof functioning action and get it to our 44 clients that swapped, not seeing promise of getting firing pin assemblies to meet our timeline so ill now have to invest in a swiss lathe or find a way to make my own. Ill be focusing on AICS mags for the initial launch
Yeah perfectly understandable.
I imagine AICS will be the most popular mags by a long shot, but having other options would be sweet.

Does anyone else get frustrated reloading

When I was competitive shooting and reloading I used to get all wrapped around the axle And very frustrated. These days it just reload for hunting and plinking and it’s very therapeutic. I enjoy reloading now.

My proses is really slow and almost robotic the way I do everything the same. I’ll usually lose a few pieces of brass setting up a Fl Die, but I just figure that’s the cost of doing business. I really just try too take tons of notes, keep my work space clean, keep distractions to a minimum, and just stay focused.

Don’t be too hard on yourself, I think everyone goes through it. You just have to find that ahhhh moment and it all comes together! Failure is a big part of success,

AR 10 build 6.5 CM

I was asking because I’ve thought about trying some 155’s but didn’t know if I could get the velocity and keep good accuracy. Those higher bc bullets don’t seem to shoot nearly as well as some of the more mild types like the original Amax and SMK’s from the AR also. I might give some 155 eldm’s a swing in mine.
On the 125’s I have a load with 125 NBT’s that run 2900 from my 16” barrel and hover .8-1.2” at 100 yds. Hammer on deer and hogs.

Not to derail, but what’s your 125gn load? Feel free to PM rather than posting here so it doesn’t hijack.

I am currently considering an 18” Wilson Combat 6.5cm bbl for a fun gun/truck rig to run suppressed. Not sure of the consensus on Wilson Combat barrels but I am all ears for those that have had experience with them.

Accuracy International Picture Thread

I should have said Special Reserve is good, just not that “Special” (to me). I guess my comment was too harsh to say I don’t think much of it.
I had someone tell me they are discontinuing the Antique 107. Have you heard anything like that?
Discontinuing 107 would be such a retarded move. Especially with the Buffalo Trace expansion. I haven’t heard anything like that myself. But I think there’s more demand for it than there is supply. Especially at MSRP. So I would be shocked if they dropped it.
