Thorroclean & Bronze Brush Bore Cleaning Result.

Good point.

I use this pic a lot. The shooter was honest and told us exactly how he was cleaning the barrel. Using KG2 bore paste, a bronze brush and how often.

Not only did two gunsmiths (one of whom installed the barrel for the customer) replicate his process and we did as well.

End result was the same.

Looks almost as bad as my factory Savage barrel did before I ran Tubbs bullets down it. It shoots a little bit better and fowls a little bit less now, but I’m not sure it was worth the effort. My experience has been, so far, that the more I pay for a barrel, the easier it is to clean. I haven’t had to use JB and Kroil on any of my custom barrels, I only use Boretech Eliminator, CR4, and Slip2000EWL for lube, and they are a dream to clean. I have been known to use JB, sparingly and only on a Kroil soaked patch with a jag, not a brush, on my Savage and Faxon quality barrels. I almost never use a brush, even nylon, even on the lower quality barrels.

@Ronin22 I was half serious half joking about bore scope pictures. I would love to see a before and after use pics if you have them. The joke part was because so many people freak out about how their bore looks and it doesn’t really matter unless the rifle is shooting patterns instead of groups.

Is it worth reloading precision ammo on a single stage versus progressive press?

I load all my precision ammo on a 550 with powder that is coming out of a Prometheus or an autotrickler.

Everything from 17 Mach IV to 338 Lapua.

Less time at the bench means more time at the range.

So far I have have not seen anything on the target or over the chrono that says "You have to use a single stage to load accurate ammo."

Firing Pin Issue?

Standard chambering or improved variant of some sort ?

I ask because I made a bone head mistake one time with the first rifle I set headspace on. In my case it was my 243AI. I had been led to believe you used a standard go guage to headspace an ackley which I found out later was only sort of true.

Anyway, I headspaced it tight on the go guage and with factory ammo I had a good slight crush when closing the bolt. Fired a whole box of factory ammo just fine. The problem came when I resized some more once fired (in a straight 243win) brass for further fire forming. I sized down too much and I had excessive headspace leading to light firing pin strikes just like the OP.

Headspace verified good to go ?
Measured fired cases against the ones that didn't go boom ? Based on my own experience that's where I'd look.

Can your result be reproduced by another experimenter?

2A ALERT for COLORADO: CO AWB at Gov's desk. THIRTEEN new antigun bills to be watched. Update on post 106 pg 3..

Could you imagine if we stopped taking the fucking moral high grounds and started burning shit to the ground.

Could you imagine these fucks actually listening to us and if we had started this shit years back, maybe, just maybe they would have not taken Soros money.

Glad we weren't around back during the revolution or we would still be a land governed by England.

Glad everyone is still comfy in their houses with their 2 cars and such.....just no guns now.

And next year they will slap us like bitches once again and take away more of our rights and people will still have to go to work.

and then the next year they will ban gun forums in the state and we will once again allow it to happen.

Then the next year they will lock step us to the train cars and we will have people here helping them out.

I didn't lose close friends and shed my own blood sweat and tears just to have my rights taken away.....

Yall are a bunch of fucking cucks, bet if they made a law where they get to fuck your wives you would all still have to say you had to work.

Fuck it all.....I'm out

No it was not soft at all. Also it's not the only time we've seen it happen.
We've been lucky a few times where we gave the barrel a light finish lap and was able to stop the fouling and the barrels would then hold accuracy with no issues. I'll tell you though we have a 50/50 chance in saving one. It's not a guarantee.

Firing Pin Issue?

What brand/model of action is this firing pin out of?

It looks like shit.
Somebody molested the hell out of it at some point after manufacturing (. . . .unless Tactical Rifles.net started back up and is making actions now.)

After looking at this altered part, I would question any of the other work to the point I would double check everything else about the barreled action.
This. I would check the headspace (maybe just a bit too much?) and replace that firing pin and the spring.
