Firing Pin Issue?

What brand/model of action is this firing pin out of?

It looks like shit.
Somebody molested the hell out of it at some point after manufacturing (. . . .unless Tactical Rifles.net started back up and is making actions now.)

After looking at this altered part, I would question any of the other work to the point I would double check everything else about the barreled action.
This. I would check the headspace (maybe just a bit too much?) and replace that firing pin and the spring.

Firing Pin Issue?

Hi guys, I'm looking for some opinions on this firing pin. Without going into too much detail I just want to know if you think that the obvious asymmetry (zoom in) is something that could cause issues with light strikes. I feel like it's dragging and binding on the bolt body. I'm getting way too many clicks and with 3 different primers.

The color variance makes me think it has been heated. Like really hot for some reason.

It was so hot that they actually experienced some of the material being ablated away from the torch blast (see inside yellow box above). Even more importantly, I would bet money that the composition of the remaining material in that area is altered. I would guess it is now brittle and prone to a stress crack/failure.

It also looks like it has been unevenly ground or aggressively wire brushed. I say unevenly because it appears to have some really distorted geometry to the point I would predict a failure somewhere down the road.

All that being said, the tip of the pin looks to be in good shape.

Even though the firing pin looks like it was made from scratch in some cave in Pakistan, that may not be the source of your ignition problem.

Thorroclean & Bronze Brush Bore Cleaning Result.

So, what am I doing right that this barrel has survived 10-12 cleanings with Thorroclean? Not only survived, but still shooting bug holes. That is what I'd like to identify and possibly separate from the one & done toast jobs.
That's the million dollar question I cannot answer.

Why does one guy not have a problem but the next guy does?

Are you using a bronze brush or a nylon brush?

A ammo maker called me last year some time.... and his exact words were...."Hey we are trying to cut down on scrubbing time (cleaning)." What do you think about using a stainless steel brush and even an abrasive. I said.... Don't do it. Your asking for it! Then I said... on 2nd thought... knock yourself out. You will be buying double the amount of barrels!

Another bullet maker told me.. if they feel the need to clean a barrel with an abrasive (think they use JB if I recall correctly) only one guy... again only one guy is allowed to clean the barrel with the compound. All the other guys in the ballistic lab are not allowed to touch the stuff.

Firearms Assortment of Rifles/Pistols

I'm looking to offload some things I don't use that are just sitting in the safe. I have become pretty invested in precision rimfire, so I want to trade for higher-end rimfire equipment. I can send additional pictures upon request and would be more than happy to Facetime or call!

I am extremely particular about my stuff, so most of these are safe queens with little to no use.

If you want more infomation on particular builds/parts just shoot me a messsage!

Thorroclean & Bronze Brush Bore Cleaning Result.

I have pic's on my flash drive but it's at home. I have the customers barrel here and it's one of them I use for a show and tell. I/we have a few here that we keep for show and tell.

Anyways it's a 308win barrel. Our barrel. The gunsmith that built the gun for the customer was Pierce Eng. and they reached out to me when the barrel wouldn't shoot all of a sudden. The customer cleaned the rifle one time... with Witch's Brew and a brush. He took a full .001" of material out of the bore of the barrel. Barrel only has 500 rounds on it. Now junk.

Dave Tooley and I have talked about this a lot. He has a Lilja 30cal barrel he fitted up for a customer in 30BR. The gun shot 1/2" groups at 200 yards. Shot a total of 250 rounds on it. The shooter cleaned it one time with Flitz and a brush. Now it would only shoot 2" groups at 200 yards.

So......

6mm ARC (Bolt Action)

Moved back to Varget for now, 26" Benchmark Varget 27.8 105HY seating test from about .060 jump to .030" 2712 8.8sd/32es across all but my CCB. I am going to try and run this at a local match in the coming weeks provided I get enough time to verify my drop data with it before hand... and the power stays on long enough to load ammo... we had some straight-line winds and two small tornado's roll through the area and the linemen have been very busy trying to get us all back up before today's storms start.

2A ALERT for COLORADO: CO AWB at Gov's desk. THIRTEEN new antigun bills to be watched. Update on post 106 pg 3..

Seems like that's what they spent the last 4 years trying to provoke. It would give them the excuse to publicly perpetrate the violence on us they really want to, instead of shooting up concerts and shooting at our president and blaming it on a lone crazy. There pros and cons to everything.

Selling a galil to purchase an m40a1 clone? Am I stupid?

Same here. I occasionally shoot my Norinco and. My Krink. But the rest are wall hangers.

Fun, but unless engaged in a guerrilla conflict… just range blasters.

Was it Jack O’Conner who said “Only accurate rifles interest me?” Thats why we live here on SH not ARFcom.
