Hearing protection active muffs in 2025

I was all set on buying some Ops Core + their fancy NFMI plugs, but I read some comments on a YT vid that suggest that the headsets are fragile (I know, I know, YT comments veracity).

Since the unit is over $1k, that gave me some pause…but the manufacturer promises a high NRR (or SNR?) rating while being able to hear much better than regular doubling up.

Having used Ops Core Amps at work on a helmet for over a year, I’ll say I never found them to be fragile. My gear gets tossed in a large gear bag on thrown on a team shelf between assignments and never had any issues.

Interesting rimfire cleaning theory and method

I’ve been using the Vudoo cleaning method for a few years now:
-every 500 rounds or so soak chamber with a bore mop
-clean breach face & ejector cut out
-run a few patches through the bore to remove loose crud and excess C4

I have had a new barrel fitted to my Tikka and tracked almost every single round through it with a chronograph.
I can’t say I’ve noticed any trends of a dirty barrel vs clean barrel for ES/SD, testing at distance 100+ yards the ES/SD data pretty much always tracks with group size.

Some 22lr shoots will be over 200 rounds in a day, if I want to turn up with a pre-fouled bore it means I can easily have 250 rounds in a barrel and still be expecting to be at competition accuracy. Thus I don’t see the point in getting caught in the weeds of ultimate possible accuracy and the cleaning required.

Making sure I’m not getting a carbon ring is the main concern with 22lr, most other fouling doesn’t seem to matter.

One point worth mentioning is on my new barrel I haven’t been using a suppressor, and the barrel stays considerably cleaner.
It doesn’t matter what ammo I use the barrel stays much cleaner than it used.

Gene Hackman

Maybe he fell and she was distraught and OD? Many possibilities. She doesn’t sound like the kind of person who would have left the dog to die when 2 others running around.

Very strange; my guess he died naturally. Not sure how wife died; but likely suicide.
I hear ya, we might learn more once the toxicology/forensics are completed, or we may never know.
