Devil Dog needs guidance on 7mm STW

Hello everyone,

Long time stalker first time posting up. This is my first precision gun of any type. I came across something from a seller and we made a deal. Picked up a very clean REM 700 Sendero 7mm STW . Well I really didn’t think getting ammo or brass for starters would be as hard as it seems in today’s market. I have read several of the posts from others here but wanted to reach out to all the professionals in the community for some guidance moving forward. Frankly I’m not a reloader because I have never had the need. Well that’s changing ASAP it apparent. Is there anyone out here that’s shooting one that’s been reloading or also knows were I can get some factory ammo still? I have found some Nosler off Ammoseek and picked it up so I have some brass to learn to reload with. Any help would be great and thanks again.

This will be a long range Elk and Mule deer gun mostly and maybe a speed goat gun too.

CZ P-01 Slide Milling

Does anyone have gunsmith recommendations for having a CZ P-01 slide milled for a Trijicon RMR?

My father has a P-01 that he wants to put a red dot on, and he’s tried a mount that uses the rear sight’s slot, but it hasn’t been as sturdy as he likes. He’s had to readjust the sight regularly, so he’s thinking about having the slide milled.

Before a P-07/P-09 recommendation is made, he wants to stick with the P-01 because he likes the metal frame and the ergonomics.

I’ve seen a few videos by MK3 Firearms, and it looks like they do good work. Does anyone have experience with them, or some other shop?

Trump Transition Team Likely to Refuse Fed Assistance & Transition Funding If Victorious

I like it, especially setting up outside of DC.

For election 2024, President Trump’s transition team is now saying they are likely to go it alone and skip any federal transition assistance in advance of inauguration day. That decision is making the deepest parts of the Deep State apparatus very nervous. That decision has major ramifications and could, likely would, include the incoming Trump administration setting up offices outside Washington DC.

New to the forum from Utah - transplanted from PA.

Great forum and have learned a bunch from here in the recent past as I work to set up a new .22.

Have shot .22's my whole life getting my first Marlin Mod 60 in '74 that I got for my birthday one year - still shoots great. It looked pretty bad so a few years ago I stripped it down and painted the stock desert tan, then painted some of the forestock and the handgrip with some dark gray textured paint. Then I added a piece of rail under the front end to add a bipod, put a Nikon ProStaff 22 scope on top and have a great gopher plinker.

Then about 25 years ago I picked up a Marlin 25n for about $99 new, to carry on my ATV and used that with the open sites for ever and a day. Bolt seems to go on for ever, the little metal clip will kill your fingers after a while and the trigger is quite heavy but it always shot well so never put a scope on it - until recently (later for that).

So just a couple of months ago I was visiting my uncle up in Idaho. We ride, hunt and shoot a lot. We happened into a local gun shop and I saw a Bergara BMR steel barrel and checked it out. My 300 WinMag (an anniversary gift from my wife) is a Bergara and I just love it. So, after looking at the BXR and the BMR I said to my Uncle - I haven't had a new .22 in over 25 years, and knowing that the number of guns you should own is N+1, I bought it.

I took it home with the intent to set it up and go back to Idaho shooting with my uncle. He called and said, "Hey there's an NRL22 match down your way, you oughta go shoot it with that gun." I laughed - I told him I don't even have a scope on it, of course he knew I had to have something. With it only a few days away I pulled the UTG 4-16x44 off of my pellet gun and mounted it on the BMR. Sighted it at 50, shot some different ammo to find one that seemed to be consistent and went off to the match. For my first ever I did not zero on any station and just did some ballpark holdover as to not need to dial the scope.

So, now after a new scope (Bushnell Match Pro), a decent bipod (Harris), 4 bags, Atlas cheek rest, throw lever and scope caps from MKM, various ammo runs and a Boyd's AT-One thumbhole stock on the way (need a lot more LOP to shoot comp) I am down the NRL22 rabbit hole trying to do comp shooting with a micro rifle. But it has been fun!!

Loving the rediscovery of rimfire!!!

Another LPVO thread

Yes, another LPVO thread. It's just that I'm kind of overwhelmed with the possible choices.

Intended use - recently purchased a Noveske Afghan upper with a 14.5" stainless upper. I already have a couple of SBR's with red dots and a 18" CLE upper with a 24x scope that's dedicated to long range shooting. This rifle would be my do it all option. So offhand shooting at 15-50 yards, but also would take it out to 4-500 yards. I have access to a 600 yard range, and will probably end up doing about 75% of my shooting with this rifle at 200+ yards and beyond.

I have an absolute max budget of $1,500 and if I can keep it under $1,000 that would be great. Obviously, the scope needs to be reasonably rugged, and have really solid glass. Weight is a concern, so if I can keep it light that would be a plus. And it has to have a reticle that works for both in close shooting and long distance shooting. Finally, I can live with 1-6x but 1-8x would be better. Don't really want to go up to 1-10x, since I don't think I really need it and understand those scopes can be problematic.

The problem is that there are a ton of choices that look like they would work. Primary Arms has a 1-8x for $1,500 that is really interesting and is probably my current top choice. It's relatively light and has a great reticle. Of course the Vortex Razor 1-6x is a solid option. Great glass, great warranty but getting another 2x would be nice. I have a Trijicon Credo in higher magnification, that I like, so their 1-8x is interesting to me. Steiner has a 1-6x option that looks it would work. Eotech has something in my price range, and I'm a big fan of their holographic sight, but don't know anything about their other scopes. And finally, there's the Nightforce NXS, but I think even on sale that's going to end up over my max budget and the ATACR is way over my budget.

So I guess I'm just interested in other shooters' thoughts and experiences with the above scopes, or something I maybe have left out.

AZ v George Alan Kelly

This is the gentleman charged in AZ with murder after reporting a dead body on his property last year. The body belonged to a Mexican national who was trespassing across Kelly’s property along with a group of individuals. Kelly called the cops after he heard a shot. He also fired warning shots over the group’s heads from 115 yards away. A bunch of leos responded and combed his property but did not find the anything. Kelly‘s dogs found the body with a bullet hole in it later that evening. Kelly called the cops again. They gladly responded to arrest him. Anywho, Kelly’ trial started yesterday. His lawyer seems on top of things.

I watched the opening statements. Seems like he is being railroaded. There are a lot of lessons to be learned here:

Riton X7 Conquer owners

Not much on here about Ritons newest scopes. I have an opportunity to pick up either of the FFP X7’s for a couple hundred dollars.
Just curious if anyone here has exp with either the 3-24 or the 4-32.
I’m very tempted to try one, especially for the cost, but I also wonder if my $300-500 would be better spent.
Please let me know your owners exp.
I don’t need to hear about your
RTS Mod7, X5 or any of their other scopes. This is their newest design and I’m curious what the Hide members think. All the reviews online are rainbows and butterfly’s as always.
Thanks y’all.

First Timer Help! LR Hunting 308 Handloads

First time reloading and first time posting to a forum. Take it easy on me.

I've decided to handload some long range hunting 308 rounds for my Bergara Wilderness Ridge. My goal for this ammo is to achieve half MOA, to reach out and hit targets at 1000yds, and to be lethal out to around 600yds although I will probably never shoot at an animal that far. The specs for my setup are a 20" 1-10 twist barrel with a Sandman S mounted up and an internal magazine that restricts my possible OAL. Before I begin with my reloading process, I'd like to say that all the testing is done prone at 100yds with sandbags and a bipod also allowing the barrel adequate time to cool between shots. I make sure that everything on my rifle is torqued to spec prior to testing and my rifle is capable of regular half MOA with quality match factory ammo. So with some of the usual suspects out of the way, let's begin.

Components:
Federal Gold Medal 210M Primers
Lapua Brass
Varget
Hornady ELD-X 178gr

P.S. I have already loaded and shot the first firing of the brass but do to my lack of confidence is the testing procedures I used I decided to trash all of the data I gathered from the first firing.

My reloading process is as follows:
Deprime using universal depriming die
Clean out primer pockets on Frankford Arsenal Work Station
Use super fine steel wool to remove carbon on case necks
Brush out case necks with bronze bore brush
Tumble 2-3 hours in corn cob media
Clean out Redding Type S FL Bushing (.336) die and lube cases with Hornady one shot
Bump shoulders back .002" (All dimensions of sized brass was around +-.001")
Retumble 1 hour
Trim to 2.005" on Frankford Arsenal Work Station
Chamfer and Deburr
Swab out Case mouth
Prime cases to the stop (not necessarily crushing) using a Frankford Arsenal hand primer
Throw powder in RCBS Chargemaster
Seat bullets with Redding Competition seating die

My results so far in my second firing are less than ideal.
I performed a Modified OCW Ladder Test that consisted of loading in .3 grain increments 3 rounds a piece from 41-43.7 grains. Shooting over a chronograph (Caldwell G2) as well as round robin style for groups allowing 2 minutes between shots. The groups I have shot are a train wreck and seem to have no pattern or meaning to me. All groupings from this reloading project have been atrocious ranging from 1"-4". The velocity however pointed to a node at 41.9-42.2 (2450 FPS) and another at 42.5-42.8 (2500 FPS). I stopped at 43.7 grains because in my past testing I had some consecutive hard bolt lifts although I have not experienced that at all since so I loaded another ladder from 41-44.3 grains and again the nodes were the same and I also seemed to have no pressure signs. So next, I chose the lower node and loaded 6 groups of 3 at 42 grains and loaded CBTO of 2.152"-2.122" in .006" increments. The resulting groups were not ideal ranging between 1.4"-2.6" and the velocities ranged from 2451-2528 FPS. I have struggled with this chrono more than anything and getting random velocities as well as missing shots completely although it is always 15 feet away from the muzzle and in the most optimal light I can use. One day I can get 2450 with a particular load and the next day I come out with seemingly identical conditions and I will get +-100 FPS with the same load.

So here are my questions
Is it normal in a bad load to give you velocities that vary so drastically day to day?
Is there a problem in my reloading process causing these poor results?
Is it just that I chose a bad bullet? If so give recommendations for a good long range hunting match grade bullet please.

Sorry for writing a book.. Anything helps, Thanks.

6 Dasher Bushing size

Building my first 6 dasher. I’ve been off the loading bench for 4 years and I’m out of the loop.
Does anyone have any bushing size recommendations.
My plan is to use Peterson Brass, (Lapua is not out of the question either though) and since I have 1000 108 Berger hybrid target lying around, and at least that many 108 ELDMs I wonder if anyone has a good starting point or range so I get get loading and shooting a bit quicker.
Using a Proof 6Dasher Stainless Prefit
Peterson or Lapua Brass
108 Berger or 108 ELDMs.
Any advice as to a good starting point and decent loads would be greatly appreciated.
I’m impatient obviously and I’m trying to get some stuff ordered before action and barrel arrive.
Thanks in advance!
Layne Z.
