6mm PRC

I have been doing some looking around across different forums and sites to see what kind of loads folks are running on a 6mm PRC and haven’t had much luck, especially with light weight bullets.

Planning on running solids, currently thinking 88 grain *Cutting Edge MTH* in a 7.5 twist. Anybody have any suggestion on powder types, charges, and what kind of velocity they are getting?

Brand of Brass being used would be great to know as well.

Thinking I need solids because I don’t want to worry about throwing jackets on bullets in a twist that fast, as well as hoping to have that better BC bullet in the solid. (I don’t plan on getting a slower twist barrel, I am just getting an old 6GT barrel rechambered for something fun that goes the speed of light — 3700 FPS+).

Thank you in advance!

*Edit* - Meant Cutting Edge 88 Grain Solid not Flatline.

SOLD PVA terminus Zeus QC barrel 6.5CR 18"

I have a black cerakoted PVA terminus Zeus 18" 6.5CR QC tenon barrel with approx 200 down the tube. Its threaded and m24 profile.
I shoot all 24"s and longer so this has limited need for me. This has never been hunted nor used in a PRS match all bench. I also shoot only 140s and heavier where this got around 2500fps with 140s. It mostly had factory ammo through it not pushed hard.
Its button rifled.

460 shipped.

6GT vx 6XC, Tuner or No Tuner? Opinions welcome

Building for PRS... this seems like a real challenge to me, maybe y'all can make it an easier decision.

So i recently picked up one of those area 419 barreled actions (Tenacity/ Proof Comp 6GT) that they no longer sell... I have a 6XC reamer and barrel as well (both barrels are heavy contour and low round count) . I have more/better brass for the XC and a lot of 115gr DTACs. I have as many 105 Berger VLDs for the GT, but less brass and the brass I have is Hornady (GAP head stamped).

The GT has 5/8x24 thread and I have a G3 fat bastard for it. The XC is not threaded and I have an EC Tuner Brake to put on it if I go that route.

What would you do FIRST? Both barrels will probably happen eventually, but if you had to pick one, what would you go with and why?

Also, would you put the EC Tuner on the 6gt while it's at the Smith or just run it with a G3 Fat Bastard?

SOLD Razor gen3 1-10 w LEAP

Thinking about selling my 1-10 mil with scalorworks leap mounted and used very little in immaculate shape with a box. I’m not sure what they’re worth today but I’m thinking $1850 with the mount. I’d love to trade for a quality optic in the 15-20x top end mag range also in mils. I’ll get pictures tomorrow or maybe the next day or maybe never I forget things often, but it looks just like a gen 3 razor in a scalorworks LEAP mount.

Medicare Insurance Questions

For those who are old and partially deaf like me, any tips or thoughts on what to get, what to look out for/pitfalls when getting insurance with Medicare?

I have parts A&B, but am no longer covered on my wife's policy so need to pick something up.

I'll be meeting a representative later today to see what policies she has available. Senior Benefit Solutions, I guess I are one now.

Thanks!

I got this on a whim and it's pretty darn cool.

Just on a whim I ordered this watch directly from Garmin - directly 'cause I have an account with them, the coyote brown is not available locally, and they have free 2-day shipping. Link to Garmin at the end.

i-gqrzn6R-L.jpg

It's the Garmin Instinct 2X Tactical in coyote brown. Very cool, solar powered too. If you look at the picture above it says the battery charge is 28d, as in DAYS! But, kind of a steep learning curve if you want all the trimmings. It works great out of the box but there is sooo much it can do, and there's a lot to read to do that.

Garmin has some other higher end Tactical watches but they are north of $1200. This one was 499, and after you get one you can log in to Applied Ballistics and get their software. Be careful doing that because they will try to charge you $300. When you dig down you can find a neutered version that only holds one rifle at a time for $100, but then I can only shoot one at a time so big F deal.

And it's a lot less than $1200 for the Gamin Tactix but still does everything that one does except a slightly smaller screen, no sapphire glass and no color screen. As for the color screen, have you ever used an iPhone outside in direct bright sunlight? It's useless! Color screens are not good in direct sun. Not this watch. It's B&W screen looks even better!

Be forewarned again, it does so much it will take some time to get it set up the way you want it - LOTS of options. That said I really like the option to turn on the backlight with a gesture, meaning that if its dark and the watch is in plain LED mode it turns the backlight on when raise and turn your arm to look at it!

So far, $499 well spent. Lots of full feature videos on YouTube on how to use all the features.

https://www.garmin.com/en-US/p/884414

PS. I downloaded the Hunt and the fish apps from the Garmin Explore App - both free . Both pretty cool too especially the fish app. You hook a fish, press a button and it records all the data - time, location, etc. Oh, and I did not mention that it tracks like 3-different satellite constellations for navigation (GPS is one of them) at the same time so accuracy is great.

Recap of the URSA NorCal October '24 event

Oct 23, 2024 - Recap of the URSA NorCal October '24 event (by RD, Lynn Dragoman; build info and notes from Oscar)

Shooters, we had 9 guns on the line Sunday morning to engage steel at 2147 yards for our first match. Some tricky winds and some shadowing made for a tough match.

RickyRacer87 got 5 hits with his 33XC to qualify for the match. Not to be outdone, Shaun Brady got 6 hits with his 300 Lapua, and Amanda got 4 hits with her 338 Lapua Ackley Improved.

During the match RickyRacer87 (Doug) and Shaun both got 4 more hits and Amanda, showing she should put on a shooting clinic, got 6 hits, scoring her third achievement point.

We moved out to 2600 yards and RickyRacer87 came out victorious with Amanda finishing one shot behind him for Runner-Up!!! Congratulations, Doug and Amanda on the good shooting and also on your recent engagement!!!!

We had time, and we had shooters, so we held a second match with a little less wind and a lot more sunshine. RickyRacer87, new shooter Steve with a Curtis Helton 375 CheyTac, and myself all qualified for the match and, once again, RickyRacer87, with his 33XC took home the win. New shooter Steve took home Runner-Up and he did it with only 7 shots!!! I think at the next match he'll bring more ammo.

After the match we shot out to 3311 yards and did some much-needed maintenance.

Congrats to Doug (RickyRacer87) on your 2 wins and also to Doug, Shaun, and Amanda who all qualified for the annual 3K Match to be held next April.

Match Winner (twice), Doug (RickyRacer87), was shooting 299 gr. (David Tubb) DTAC's (with nose ring) out of his Billy Goat Machine-built 33XC with BGM Ovis (Defiance Deviant Tactical) action, 32" Bartlein barrel, Manners T-5A stock, and Nightforce 7-35x56 ATACR scope on ERATAC 0-70 MOA base and rings.

Match 2 Runner-Up, Steve, was shooting 400 gr Cutting Edge Lazers out of his Curtis Helton-built 375 CheyTac with Stiller TAC 408 (TAC DRIVER) 1.600 action, 36" K&P barrel, Cadex Dual-Strike chassis, and Nightforce 7-35x56 ATACR scope on a 30 MOA base with Nightforce rings.

What cement admixtures would help bullet resistance?

I would like to build a composite metal deck in a new ICF house. The steel deck will be supported by Watkins hangers and steel joists, which are very strong. However I would like to keep the weight of the concrete to a moderate level, so I am investigating admixtures to improve bullet resistance to pistol rounds, .223, and 7.62x39 ammo.

Normally 8" of concrete is needed, I am hoping to have good bullet resistance in 4" or less. Any recommendations? The house is in a very nice neighborhood, I am mostly thinking of a "what if" situation and trying to be prepared.

Rifle Scopes ZCO Turret Cap Set Screws - Sweet Spot?

Own 4xZCOs, big fan, but I've always noticed their turret cap set screws were very sensitive to finding the sweet spot when zeroing.

Unfortunately, I am running into an issue with a 4-20x ZCO (non-NLE) today with the windage turret where no matter what micro adjustment I give the set screws, the cap completely slips like I am trying to re-zero it, or it actually locks the turret in the "locked/down" position and I cannot move it.

Emphasis on I am making super micro adjustments, 5-7degree turns at most, and I cannot get the turret to function normally.

I have an email out to ZCO but was scheduled to shoot this rig tomorrow so thought I'd ping the hive mind to see what blind spot, if any, I have on this.

What am I missing and/or doing wrong?
