Quick question for the "watch guys" on the Hide here...

Hi Hide,

I recently got into automatic watches- I personally find the mechanics behind them to be absolutely fascinating. This should be a quick an easy question but for those that have more experience than I do with automatic watches- what has been your experience with their accuracy as compared to an atomic clock. Granted I know that a quartz movement is going to be be more accurate but it just lacks the 'nuances' I'll say that I feel is so interesting with this particular animal.

If it's of any help- I'm happy to share what brands/models I'm playing with here & my experiences... They're both Hamilton's... from what I can tell both using the same Swiss movements, one field watch with a titanium housing, the other a more... dressy watch with what I'm all but sure is a stainless steel housing. The more dressy watch has a date box (so maybe a minor difference in the Swiss movement that they use).

1738042784647.png

I've been playing around with the field watch almost exclusively trying to nail down the accuracy and my longest test has been a day or two over 3 weeks and if I'm doing my math correctly I'm running fast just about 8 seconds a day.

I know that different brands have different tolerances but I was just curious what other's experiences were using automatic watches. 8 seconds a day (one way or the other) might not sound like a tremendous amount but the compounded effect can be... rather interesting I'll say. Likely this is just the 'nature of the beast' with mechanical timepieces but is +/- 8 seconds a day what you're seeing and if you use mechanical/automatic watches in your daily life- do you have an established protocol of when/how often you re-sync your watches to keep you moving forward?

Thanks in advance.

Hunting for a repo M40 walnut stock (my Beaver156 repo stock got slightly damaged)

My local gunsmith building my repo M40 "shooter" accidentally dropped my repo M40 stock on his shop floor...and the toe broke-off at the screw. Opps. If this had been an original M40 stock I'd be teary-eyed about it, but it's just a Beaver156 (eBay) repo stock, so I'm not upset about it. Accidents happen. Could that area be repaired? Possibly, but the repair would never be as strong as it should be for that area, so I'm looking for other options at this point.
Here's the damaged toe...

M40_stock_damage_2.jpeg

The eBay seller (Beaver156) doesn't have any short action M40 stocks listed at this time...but I really want this build completed in March 2025 if at all possible - so I can break-in the new Bartlein barrel, and then use this rifle at the upcoming CMP Eastern Games Vintage Sniper Rifle match in late April. 2025.

So here's my question: How fast can I get banned for making a WTB post outside the PX?
(Ouch, my apologizes for inadvertently violating the forum rules, just figured this might be an okay inquiry given the 'vintage sniper rifle' sub-forum is really the only area I have been active for the past decade , and I figured only us 'old school/vintage guys' might have a wooden M40 stock... My observation is the PX section doesn't exactly contain old school/obsolete stuff like an vintage M40 stock - at least not that I recall over the past decade. A prospective "vintage PX" section with perhaps pre-2000 stuff would be useful, as I honestly don't know many of the modern 3/4 letter acronyms used in the current PX section. Just an observation from a middle-aged (aka Gen X) shooter... On a happy note another vintage sniper rifle collector/aka "old school guy" came to my rescue with a proper vintage wooden stock that he offered me, probably in part out of pity for my project dilemma. Again, my apologizes if I inadvertently bent the rules.)

Here's my M40 project parts that I dropped off last month. I was never crazy about this stock as the forend is too thick, but the price was nice and it was available, but I'd like to find another stock at this point. Maybe another one of these Beaver156 stocks, or preferably one of those discontinued Taylor Precision stocks, or maybe even an early Remington PSS wooden stock, etc.

Any assistance (or tips where I could find a replacement M40ish stock) is greatly appreciated, just in case someone has a spare, thanks.

Any recommendations on what to use for 243 Ackley with 105 Berger now that R23 is gone

I need some recommendations for a replacement powder for my 243 ackley. Bartlien 1/8 barrel. I was using R23 but loaded my last grain this morning. Using 105 Berger hybrid bullets.

It’s been a while since I did any research on this caliber but I would like to be between 3100-3200 fps without pushing the limits.

Thanks for your help.

Reloading Equipment SOLD Lapua 6 BR Brass - 103 count

I have 103 pieces of 6BR brass Lapua brand, SS tumbled, annealed on AMP with code 0156.

I was using 109 hybrids with it. I think it's from two different lots of brass. And probably has 4 firings on it. No issues whatsoever, primer pocket still tight.

Just selling my extras. I have another 500 count same lot 3x fired that I might consider selling later.
