Received another shipment of Baofeng radios two weeks ago & yesterday got around to programming them. Some had very odd freqs with Tx & Rx tones or DCS programmed in them but the kicker was a few had, Rx only DCS/tones programmed in. Called to spread the word to other locals & hrs later they were finding radios never powered up they had storied from years back, with the same thing.

Nefarious, no clue, but now everyone is double checking every unit.

I had a gunsmith build a 7 mm prc using a heavy contour 26” 1-8 twist carbon six barrel. I have the barrel paired with a kelbly atlas lite action and grayboe Phoenix 2 stock. I have a nightforce nx8 scope and nightforce rings on a kelbly rail. I have 210 rounds through this barrel and have tried several good powders (h1000, rl25, retumbo, n565, n570, h4831sc) with hornady 175 eldx and 180 eldm bullets. I am using ADG brass. I cannot get any load to shoot better than about 3/4 moa. For comparison I reload for several factory rifles and have them all shooting below 1/2 moa. I expected to get Accuracy at least this good from this custom build. The gunsmith bedded the action because he thought the stock pillar bedding on the phoenix 2 was causing barrel deflection, but if anything the accuracy got slightly worse.

My gunsmith is recommending that I have the barrel cryogenically treated to improve accuracy. I have read threads on here that seem to have mixed advice on this and I haven't seen anybody discuss doing this on a carbon barrel, although I suppose it would work the same on the steel portion.

Basically I am looking for any and all advice on what to do. I don't claim to be an expert reloader, but with the success I have had with several factory guns, and the combinations I have tried with this gun, I feel confident that the issue is not with the load but with the gun.

I was gifted a Ruger M77 Hawkeye in .257 Roberts. I understand that the rifle is quite desirable, so I haven't changed anything on it. It's completely stock. No bedding job, no aftermarket trigger, etc. I worked up a load with 42 gr. H4350 and a 117 grain Hornady SST. I'm getting 1-1/2" to 2" groups at 100 yards. I can't seem to get anything better. Is this reasonable with this rifle and handloads? Am I being too picky? I plan on deer hunting with it, that's about it.

This build is just a plinker, I have other toys for longer range.

Would I be happier with flip-up irons, or a Red Dot ? I'm truthfully torn.

Has only taken both? What is the preferred course? I had my eyes set on rifles only but i have seen alot on K&M past few months. Im guessing both suffice but if anyone has input from both sides that would be perfect.

I recently switched from a Victor .308 to the DD5v4. The victor seemed to shoot good 100yd groups on cheap PMC . The DD5v4 on the other hand was not so good. Having said that there are contributing factors to this.

Robert built this for me a few years ago finally getting to really shoot it. Started life as a ruger gunsite. He tuned the action put brux heavy barrel, tuned trigger, glass and pillar bed. Ammo was Norma polytip hunting ammo. next time will do some Match ammo.

Looking to start a 7PRC build next year and getting a parts list started. My experience with custom actions is that I own a short action Origin and have shot Impact’s, Stiller, Curtis, and Bat’s. That said, im tempted to just get another Origin because its what I know and I like it. I wouldn’t mind a more “costly” action but would like to limit the price to $1300-$1400 at most. I know a ton of stuff is out there now and mainly looking to get input on if going up another $300-$400 from the Origin is worth it. This gun will be dressed out with a 28” barrel, MDT or KRG chassis and probably a gen 3 Razor. That said I will not compete with this gun but will occasionally hunt, positional and prone long range.
