New to Sniper.s Hide,

I am not new to shooting. My hobby has been collecting and restoring old guns primarily military. I built several AR - 15's with no real issues. I recently built an Aero AR-10. It has an Aero lower, enhanced upper, high pressure bolt, rifle length buffer tube and buffer, aero lower parts kit and a rifle length gas tube 15.5 inches long. All the parts are purchased from Aero Precision with the exception of a Rage trigger and a Criterion 308 heavy match grade barrel 22 inches long and a 1 in 11 twist. I am using a Magpol 10 round magazine.

I carefully assembled the rifle after watching many You Tube Video's. The Criterion barrel has an indent for the set screw on the gas block. For the break in period I fed the gun one round at a time. The gun will eject the spent round about 5 o'clock and will not stay open. When I load the magazine the gun will eject the spent round but will not put a new round into the chamber. I have used 308 hunting ammo, LC 7.62x51 and hand loaded ammo. At this time I have 80 rounds through the gun and have cleaned it several times. I still have a single shot. any suggestions.

Green Mountain 416SS 1.2" Centerfire Barrels Testing

I've had this pile of Green Mountain 416SS lapped and turned on centers 1.2" blanks here for a while now to test. Some were sent to me by the people at Green Mountain for testing/review and some I bought.

Finally have all 4 chambered up and ready to test. I had them all chambered in calibers I have extensive data on so I can make direct comparisons with the data, loads, etc

All Barrels are Green Mountains top of the line 416SS turned on centers and lapped 1.2" straight blanks.

Here are the 4 Barrels cut by PVA

26" 223Rem 1.2" straight 1-8 muzzle 5/8-24
shouldered TL3
223 Rem Match Eachus
(This is the first barrel cut with my new custom 223 Rem Match reamer I had made to shoot 75/80's with max case capacity and no turn neck... 0.080" freebore 0.253" neck)

26" 6BR 1.2" straight 1-7.5 muzzle 5/8-24
TL3 Shouldered
6BR Eachus
(This is the first barrel cut with my new 6BR reamer 0.105" freebore 0.272" neck)

26" 6.5x47L 1.2" Straight 1-8 muzzle 5/8-24
TL3 Shouldered

26" 308win 1.2" straight 1-10 muzzle 5/8-24
PVA's 175 FGMM reamer
TL3 Shouldered

All Barrels will be shot on my new single shot TL3 action in my fully bedded Revolution benchrest stock, Cortina V2 Tuner, BixN Andy TacSport Pro and Gen3 Razor/Area419 matched rings in Seb Neo rest from the bench.

Trying to take as much shooter out of the equation to see how these barrels really shoot and how they compare to my Bartleins, Kriegers, Mullerworks, and Rock Creeks.

First up I screwed on the 223Rem barrel and wanted to get some rounds down it and some brass fireformed... loaded up the following to zero and shoot today.

I was not judging accuracy today. Just wanted to get 50rd down the barrel. It was 38F while at the range with a sustained 17MPH wind and 35-30Mph gusts. Wind chill was 26F. It was miserable out.

I loaded 25rd of 75 ELD's 24.4gr Varget 0.01 off and 25rd of 80smk 24gr Varget 0.01 off...

I got a rough zero with the ELD and banged some steel. Even in this crazy wind the 75 eld didn't shoot great. Probably around an inch...

The 80smk were shooting really well even with 25-30mph gusts.. I fine tuned my zero with the 80smk and played with a few different tuner settings. Shooting sub half moa out the gate no load development or tuning.

I'll clean the barrel and load up the other 50pcs of brass and do a mini load development with these 80smk around 24gr and see what it likes best. Then do a seating depth test and play with the tuner then I'll take it out to distance.

Haven’t heard much about these, so I reached out to Anechoic to see if I could get one for review. They’re interesting in that they are user serviceable, lightweight titanium, and low-backpressure. I’m not aware of any other cans that do all three. Whether not you want a user serviceable can is up to you; I’ve never felt a need for it, but I do like that I can shoot as much as .22 through it as I want. I’m liking the can so far, and will be interested to see how it performs for the rest of the review process.

Suppressors Griffin armament explorr 300 which one.

Looking to purchase a Griffin Armament explorr 300 for my 300blkout, 6.8spc and my 223/556 rifles. I will eventually get dedicated cans but for now a 30 cal can due to hunting first. They offer the taper mount and utility mount. Is it worth the extra 100ish bucks for the utility mount can or go taper mount. Gonna grab two hammer comps as well. If anyone has any advice on which can to get will be appreciated.

Opening day deer killed in SC with Seekins SP10, 6.5 CM

October 11 was the opening day for rifle hunting in SC. Sunrise was 727. At 704, I shot an 8 pt at 210 yds. I saw the deer in a wheat food plot on a fire break. Had to use the illuminated reticle on my Nightforce 2.5-20 to be able to see the reticle adequately for the shot. The deer ran about 15 yards. I used a Hornady factory 143 ELDX. I didn’t hit the shoulder bone but the exit wound is shown in the attached picture. I like to hit high in the shoulder but was just back a couple inches. I just acquired the rifle in December 2023. This is the 2nd deer killed (and shot at) with my SP10. Can’t be more pleased with the setup for whitetails. The entrance hole is circled in red. He weighed 148 lbs. Not a big rack but nice start on season. The rifle picture is different day last year but same stand.

T1x ejector, magwell and mag mod

The large majority of T1x owners will not have to do these modifications to make your T1x function any better. If it's working good don't mess with it. Mine wasn't working good after I installed the IBI barrel with Win 52D chamber. Everything functioned fine with the 1st IBI barrel and the factory barrel. The 52D chamber is so tight the bullet has to align near perfect to successfully enter the chamber. I worked with what I am about to show for a few days. I did quite a bit of experimenting to try and eliminate my jamming/feeding issues. Extraction and ejection has never been an issue.

The pitfall to the T1x design is the way the ejector wire is designed to work. Its purpose is to eject but it also rides on the bullet making contact with it. This pushes the top round to the right as the round leaves the magazine and does not allow the rim of the case to slide up as far as it can between the bolt face and extractor. This also keeps the tip of the bullet low and it hits the bottom of the chamber when trying to enter it. Since the IBI barrel chamber is so tight, the bullet doesn't have as much wiggle room as with other chambers. **Keep in mind, the Win 52D chamber was designed for a single shot rifle, not a magazine fed one.** So let's just fast forward a bit to the outcome.

I finally realized I needed to get the ejector wire away from the bullet BEFORE the bolt made contact with the rim. To do this I made a do or die bend in the ejector wire. This allowed the bolt to move the ejector wire to the left and out of the way as the round was being stripped from the magazine. It took a couple of tries before I got it just right. So, finally I was feeding a round into the chamber almost perfect. To my surprise it was ejecting the live rounds too. But from past history I knew that just because a live round can be ejected, doesn't mean a fired round will be ejected. So next step was to shoot some. I ended up shooting 40 rounds with CCI SV and Aguila, to of my worst feeding ammo. To my surprise everything worked perfect without one failure.

While I was back inside I noticed that sometimes if the top rear of the mag tilted down very far the bolt could ride over top of the rim and push it out of the magazine making it stand up, bullet first. I have read where this has happened to others but this was the first time I experienced it. So I studied the design and concluded that I could put a shim on top of the mag ejector lever and possibly make the mag fit tighter and higher up to keep the bolt from overriding the rim. After that everything was fixed. I took it a step further by adding two layers of duct tape to the bottom of the mag and one layer to the top as shown in the photos. If you do it any other way the mag will not drop free. All this combined made the magazines fit much better, eliminating the stovepipe jam and making overall feeding appear to be better.

Below are the photos of what I did with commentary as needed.

Here is the final shape of the ejector wire. I removed the wire to make this bend.

The following are a series of photos showing how the bolt pushes the ejector out of the way to allow the bullet to freely move up and out of the magazine. The bolt needs to make contact on the ejector right before or at least at the same time as the bolt hits the rim. Some of these photos may be the same or show the same thing but just with the flash on.
