Used to rebuild those twin counter shaft cog boxes back in my mechanicing days. Still have a synchronizer or two and a few shims in my old toolbox.

I think my son got a picture through the welding hood, it was almost a full eclipse where we were.

He has an interesting channel, I check it out occasionally.
Best I can do is an artifact on the lens. It was a bright, clear day at the match today.View attachment 8248758

You know, under field conditions, cold, windy, off hand, adrenaline pumping, most hunters / shooters would be lucky to hit something 10 times this size. But not me.![]()

peahen? That's a guinea, most likely a pearl or white breasted. This peahen is currently hanging out in my yard. Must have gotten away from one of the neighbors. I assume the coyotes will get her. It's nearly dark out.

I was just making a guess based on Google. And of course the first image I found was clearly wrong now that I looked at more. Regardless, I assume something will eat it by morning.peahen? That's a guinea, most likely a pearl or white breasted.

It's happened to me many times, including the last 4 deer I've shot at. Unfortunately it comes with the terrain.
The difference with that one was I DID get it. A doe, the only deer I've ever shot while bedded down. The first shot probably would have been fatal, but she was still trying to get away and I didn't want her to do that. lol She was heading for nasty, thick flooded stuff and I did not want to drag her from there. There were in fact MANY saplings hit, I laid waste to half the forrest that evening. Reminiscent of the scene from Predator, only with a .45-70. It was like a comedy, I couldn't NOT hit wood.

I never hunted with those 300gr JHPs again. They were crazy accurate, but performance was abysmal.
