.260 Remington

I shot (5) more of the 130gr Norma just now @ 250 yards. I split the seating depth difference, and managed a 1-1/4 to 1-1/2 inch group (can't tell what is an old mark and what is new on this target)...so about a half-minute again and in-line with the 100 yard tests from yesterday.

It took .6 to get there, so I might be going a bit faster. It'll be a couple weeks until I take this to 650 and know for sure.

Yeah, I did like that I could use .5 at 200 and 1.1-1.2 at 300. Easy peasy.

You just made me realize that I'm sitting on about 7.5lbs of IMR-4955 (H4831 equivalent). Might have to do a little testing with that down the road.

TBH, I have the 4955 because it shoots so well out of my 7RM with 150gr bullets.

I like h4831 I get the velocity I want without the early pressure spikes that h4350 give me in 260

N160 is right there with burn rate as well. You'll most likely compress the load before you run into pressure signs.

I think I've found my load for now, 44.0gr N555 with a 142SMK @2733. Shooting small and seems to do well in the wind. The TAC A1 seems to be throated perfectly for this bullet at 2.895. At 130 rounds down the barrel it seems to be settling in now. It also amuses me that most of the people I shoot with have no idea what 260 Remington is

It amazes me how badly Remington got the marketing wrong. I've come late to it and it feels like cheating compared with .308! The nice thing is there are no brass concerns as it's easy enough to make from other very common brass.

Has anyone ever tried necking it to 25cal? Yes I know that's basically 25 Souper but .264 to .257 would be very simple.

I’m sure it would be easy, but the first question is….why? I have been a big .257” fan for many decades, but when the .260 was introduced I got one (two actually) because the two bullet diameters are for all practical purposes the same. Plus the .260 had - and still has - a much wider range of useful bullet weights. Today there are more .257” bullets in heavier-than-traditional weights, but the real world differences between a .257” and .264” 120 grain bullet are miniscule.

Man, the new .25 CM fans who get told what to buy from all the shills would crap their pants if they knew how easy it would be to just neck down and go. Honestly, I'm now getting tempted by the idea to do this. You'd need about 2.900 to 2.950 to really get it cookin'.

Well, there is the .25 Souper...but looking at the reamer specs again on PTGs site, the freebore looks extremely short (like it was obviously designed before the long, heavy-for-caliber bullets came out...kind of like the .260). I couldn't find it, but I bet it was also designed for 2.800 OAL with those ~100-117gr bullets.

Kick that freebore out .100 and it would be a "game changah". Not really, but it shouldn't have any trouble running those mid-130s bullets up around 50-100 FPS faster than the .25 Creed.
