Ok so I'm finally in the market for a good top of the line style scope and would like some some opinions/feedback on the pros and cons of each. Its a 300win tactical match rifle, 200-950 yard targets of various sizes. Thanks

Re: Mils vs Moa and FFP vs SFP

If you are really shooting tactical matches, (not fixed position, known distance type stuff) I'd recommend FFP, and to take a look at the article posted on this site regarding SFP/FFP for tactical shooting.

After using both, I'll never buy another SFP scope, and I love mil/mil everything. The math gets really simple, and you can range in yards or meters, it doesn't matter.

Thing thing with FFP, is you can adjust your magnification to the situation, and always use your reticle as a measuring tool to make corrections or wind calls for your next shot.

Whats best is what works for you. If you look through the search function, there is enough info to fill a couple of books. The thing with MOA is that its theres a multiplier, 1 MOA is 1.047 at 100 yards. Make sure that the reticle and turrets match. The downside of FFP is at longrange the reticle lines can cover up the target.

If your using any of the software that is available for most phones and a range finder, you might not even notice the difference. Until your faced with using the scope to determine yardage.

Definitely FFP... I have a nice nightforce (mil mil) on my 308, but it is SFP. Kinda makes me sad because I almost miss the FFP leupold that used to be on it lol. Mil reticle and moa adjustment, and I still miss it sometimes because I simply do not have to worry about the magnification setting.

Shooting at whatever mag works best is worth A LOT.

That said, I find myself dialing elevation with the NF. Not a bad thing, just not my first choice.

Like was said, lots of talk on it. Read up a bit.

For tactical shooting, definately go FFP. The majority of shooters in these matches will be using mil & they will be teaching you many things. So that everyone is on the same page, you will probably be best served getting mil turrets. My vote is FFP w matching mil turrets.

Hey where'd gunshot go?

Mil/Mil makes the math a bit easier IMHO. I like FFP if you have the right reticle (i.e. - one that isn't too thick at max magnification and/or disappears at low magnification).
