Which should I go with for my 308 F Class rifle? Mainly 600-1000 but more of the 600 probably. I know on the hot sunny days I wont be able to go up to 50 magnification anyway. Is the NF with less magnification worth the extra $350 or so?

I was thinking if I go Sightron the glass should be fairly similar and I could use the extra $ I saved to go towards a Giraurd Trimmer?? Thoughts? Thanks

Re: Sightron Siii 10-50 or Nightforce BR 8-32

I would love to hear some further input on this.

I have read that both have similiar quality glass. I think I would prefer the side parallax adjustment on the Sightron and I would have the extra magnification if I ever had the chance to use it. I have found the 10-50's for around $890,

Re: Sightron Siii 10-50 or Nightforce BR 8-32

I'm a a Sightron fan. I bought the 8-32 with the LRMOA-2 reticle several months back and have been thoroughly impressed. This year, with the introduction of more reticles (including the mil hash and bolder silhouette design). and an upcoming custom shop has reaffirmed that they are continuing to listen to their customers and evolve.
Now offering adjustments in your flavor of,
.25 moa
.125 moa
.1 mil
.05 mil

The 10-50x60mm is their best selling model in the SIII series. Although it shares the same glass as the 6-24 & 8-32 it has additional lenses, a two piece design and of course a different optical system to stretch to a 5x range.

Although subjective, after speaking with them they reported that due to few of the above some users prefer the image differences, eye box and brightness of the 8-32 and/or the 6-24. Everyone sees this different so I don't mean to infer that the 10-50 is lacking or inferior in any way, just something to think about. The 10-50 is held in high regard by most. All three of these models are sub tensioned at 24x so this model also benefits from being able to obtain an even finer reticle at higher magnifications.

I have plans to purchase the 10-50 as well and will not be trading in my 8-32 to do so. As I understand, it's not an upgrade (albeit more expensive) but simply a different scope. I would like the additional magnification but not at a loss in resolution or other positive attributes I have now (if that's the case...)

Who knows, my mind may change when I receive it (there are variances within each model and it might exceed my expectations), but as I understand in addition to size/weight added on they are a bit different.

On a side note...
The new BR model by Nightforce this year is really intriguing. They have made what looks to be quite a few changes including now having a side focus instead of the AO. I believe it's markedly more expensive, but sounds like a substantial improvement that would make it on a different level than the current BR and Sightron's offerings.

Please follow up if you get the chance to do any side by side comparisons. I've heard several opinions but it would be nice to bring another to the table.
Good luck with your purchase,

Re: Sightron Siii 10-50 or Nightforce BR 8-32

I recently bought the SIII 10-50x60 with the illuminated LRIRMOA reticle. I talked with a bunch of guys at the range, and looked through some of the Nightforces. I really wanted the side-focus, though, and the NXS models get too expensive for me. Plus, the LRMOA reticle was more what I was looking for than those offered in the Nightforce Benchrest line.

Having looked through Nightforce glass, I don't see a substantial difference compared with my SIII. The primary concern I had with the 10-50 is that it is a two-piece tube. I almost went with the 8-32 for that reason. However, recommendations from some of the high masters around me convinced me to max out the magnification anyway. I don't plan to beat it up, so I reconciled myself with the two piece construction.

Back to the reticle -- it's set up for the hashes to be 2MOA at 24x. At higher magnification, I can use it to reliably use them as 1MOA subtensions. I was measuring and make adjustments at the range yesterday using this, and it tracked with the turrets very well.

Re: Sightron Siii 10-50 or Nightforce BR 8-32

the side focus went out on my sightron after minimal use - they repaired it in a reasonable time, but I would still favor the NF for quality/ durability

^^^ Hate to be the barer of bad news... But not sure where you got the 120moa figure. The 10-50 is limited by 50 moa, the 8-32 70 and the 6-24 tops out at 100 total.

I have not put mine on any beast of a rifle, but it is certainly well built. With that said, if I had something that recoiled hard enough and feared breaking a scope I don't think Sightron's 2 piece tube would be on the top of the list. I've never heard of any failing for that reason but If that's priority I would think there are better options.

Good Luck,

if I were in your shoes I might consider a rugged fixed power or go with something proven for durability

same glass quality for daytime shooting st black on white targets. I had the chance to test a sightron next to a nightforce and other than the price difference they both are really good scope for Fclass.
i bought the sightron 8-32 with fine reticule and made master mid range in 3 month after zeroing it.
cheers.
