If you have time you may want to take I-80 to I-84 then through the Willamette National Forest. Not the Fastest but time wise its about the same as any other and a beautiful drive. Drove it from Virginia Beach, Va last Fall.

So far I have only seen two rifles at the UNSC practical matches that would have trouble reaching 1200 yards. Much over 600 yards is expecting a lot from a 5.56 round, unless they use a fast twist, and bullets over 70 grains. Then I would guess they would be able to go 800-900 yards before going transonic. However I have never tried it as my 5.56 rounds struggle so darned much with wind at even 500 yards.

I went fly fishing there with my Uncle about 20 years ago. It was loaded with 18-24 dolly vardens. My favorite spot on earth is the N fork of the Malheur 15 miles N of the Chukar Park camp grounds and about 5 miles N of the Beulah Reservoir. Another great spot for small mouth Bass is N of Rome OR on the Owyhee river. 3rd fav is the John Day. I'm planning on heading that way once I get settled in and get some time off, prolly early to mid Sept the weekend before the GAP Grind.
That is a neat area. I spent lots of time around there. I had a friend who lived down there, and back then he was hunting for hides, before the hide market crashed. In mid winter, we would shoot in the snow, then go to the hot springs just off the Alvord desert. I had lots of fun down there.
Back then, the size limit for trout was 16 inch minimum, no bait, no barbs. Even with those restrictions, the problem was getting the ones under 16 inches off fast enough to get the two big ones each that we could keep. The big ones weren't that good of eating though as they tasted kinds muddy, and had a weird texture. But they sure were fun to catch. After finding out the big ones weren't good eating, we didn't keep any more of them...but we still fished and caught plenty.

I just wanted to give a shout out to Chris, & all the guys @ Bench Mark Barrels for putting on the elr match yesterday. The weather was great for a pac nw match. A little warm for my tastes, and the wind was a little tricky but otherwise it was awesome. We had ranges from 750+ out to 1645 with up to 20* angles of fire. Tibor & I did well with our 300WM running 230 Berger Hybrids. There were several 338's & some 308's, etc as well. It was good to spend the day shooting with real marksmen, & women, & everyone had a blast. Pun intended.
I also have to report that the PDA arm carrier I had Scott make did work out well. Even though it was pretty hot out yesterday I was able to wear it most of the time without much discomfort. The placement of the PDA on my arm was real convenient for inputting data, & getting solutions in the field. Its size did make mounting my drag bag on my back other arm first than I normally do but other than that it wasn't a hindrance to anything I needed to do. I might want some wider bands to hold it in place as after a while these ones were leaving a crease in my skin. However most of the time I'm wearing a sweat shirt or something anyway so that won't be a problem. All in all I think its a good piece of kit.

On a different topic, does anyone know of a FFL that will do firearms transfers from a individual? one of my long time FFLs no longer does transfers....Looking for something north of Seattle between Lynnwood and Burlington.

Try westcoast armory north in everett. They may be able to help you. Its where the old sams guns used to be.
The only one I know of is in Gig Harbor..Small, cheap, fast, and did it right the first time with no problems or drama.

May not work for you but I have 2 FFL guys I work with. both super nice and think the transfer fee is $20.00 plus the required tax rape. They are both over here on the Kitsap peninsala

I had the privilege of meeting JD from High Speed Shooting on Monday. He pin and welded my AR upper with great care and skill, which I appreciate as I wanted it done right. Great shop and great smith. I went to his second location and was amazed when I walked in and saw all the tools, machines and even more impressive were the blank wood stocks that they were building for customers. It was cool to see a stock that was starting from scratch then seeing the finish product. JD then went to the locker and pulled out a Rigsby 416 that he build! What an amazing piece of work, that rifle was beautiful. Well I ended up leaving my 700 their for him to do a couple of minor things too. Can't wait for his mag system that will accept SR25 mags. Thanks to those that recommend him and if anyone needs work done give JD a call.

Yeah JD does great work, hes built me 3 kick ass rigs and has done a crap load of other work on misc. guns I have laying around. My favorite thing to do is find fucked up projects ( that make no sense ) for him to do just so I can see him get a headache. Been trying to think of a new one for him but am running out of Ideas.
Shit just never seems to pan out. If anyone is interested I have one of the Law Tactical Gen 2 AR Folding Adapters that I'm selling for $175. Apparently it doesn't function properly with a UBR stock the way both the stock and the adapter are designed. I imagine it will work great on just about every other one though.
Too bad I already have one on my YHM carbine, otherwise I'd snatch it up. Mine is on a 16" barrel AR and it will fold up and fit into a backpack!

Does the bolt have free travel for a half inch or three quarters of an inch so before it engages the buffer, or is there a spacer built into the part that attaches to the lower? I think that is a really slick unit, but I suspect that slm9s has beaten me to it in any case. I'm just curious..if you have the time to answer me, neat, if not, no problem as it is probably gone to slm9s anyhow.

There is an extension plug that attaches to the back of the bolt carrier so it rests against the buffer. The only downside is that you cannot take the rifle apart without pulling the BCG extension off first with a flat tip screw driver. If I remember I'll bring my rifle Saturday so you can check out the setup.
Anyone know of someone who silver solders halfway local to Tacoma? I snapped off half of a metal ring on the receiver of a Rem 788 that holds the trigger on. It should be a quick but maybe delicate fix. I have the broken off half.

The folding AR stock device is pretty neat. Perhaps if I was still doing the constant build/re-builds on my AR's as in years past I would be more up to speed with all this new kit.

Powder Valley has Nosler 123 & 140 custom competitions in 6.5 mm, and has 155 and 168 custom competition 30 cal in stock.
They also have Sierra match kings in 123 and 140 grain 6.5mm. and 155 matchking, and 155 Palma bullets. No 168 or 175's though for the Sierras.

I found about 6-7 old (2-3 years) cases of various sodas in my garage. It is all in aluminum cans, so I have asked the range officer if we could have permission to use them as targets at 200 yards if we pick up after ourselves.
I am interested in what people would think could make this an interesting exercise for around 15-17 shooters. Obviously, there aren't enough cans to tell all the shooters they get 10 rounds to hit as many as possible. So far, I have thought that we could:
1. Start standing with rifle empty. On start signal, you get 30 seconds to load and fire 5 rounds to hit as many as possible.
2. Start standing with rifle loaded, at low ready. On start, go to unsupported seated position, and fire 5 rounds within 30 seconds.
3. Start prone with 4 rounds loaded in rifle, chamber loaded. On start, hit as many as possible within 10 seconds. (this is 200 yards).
4. Make it a fun match. 3 cans in the fastest time. $1.00 per run, until can's run out. Split the money among the top 5 shooters to reimburse their ammo expenses. (in case there is some law against money matches).
Bolt and semi-auto would shoot in different classes of course.
Any other ideas will be appreciated.

I wasn't planning on shooting and my gear is just unpacked but I will show up on the 6th if I can shoot great if not I'll bring glass and spot.
Show up at 0800 and bring your gear. If there are some no shows you can have a spot otherwise I'll sit this one out and you can have my spot.
Hats off to Anton, Kevin and crew for putting on another challenging and enjoyable match at UN. Just a great group of people to shoot with.
