I do believe that with proper vetting, training and the right mindset that there are many teachers, janitors, lunchroom staff, bus barn employees etc. even some students at places of higher learning at many schools that could make a difference in the right direction and this "Gun free zone" is nothing but an invitation for disaster.
Granted, it is not for everyone and those who aren't capable should not be armed but there are a few in most every school who have what it takes to get the job done and we need to use those resources as best we can, not disarm them.
I think FSG's wife would probably be best left with a sign that says"NO SHOOTING HERE" and let her wave that around and do something with that and see how that works out for her and her students if she think like he does.
However, I don't know how she feels about it and she may feel different than FSG but I doubt it.

LE response time to these schools with the manpower they have and the distances involved could be rather long so somebody had to do something and that was their answer. At least they have a chance.
In short, Don't come out in Eastern Colorado and try a school shooting as someone there will at least try to put one through your eye and most probably get it done. They might not get it done but it won't be any kind of Butter Ball shoot and lead will be in the air.

I can only speak from my experience. I was active in my daughter's school life, I knew all of her teachers and was involved in events at her school so I had a pretty idea about who her teachers were, without exception they were Betty Crocker women and effeminate men. My daughter is now 22yrs so that experience is recent. I've got a feeling many are relating their experiences in school long ago and assuming the situation is the same today.
One idea I would propose if I was a decision maker would be to create a Federal program through which veterans could earn retirement points by teaching in public schools.
The solution isn't as simple as arming teachers, If we are going to rely on teachers to defend our children, we need to change the hiring requirements for those teachers.
You are lucky to live in an area with a Sheriff who sees's the value in that kind of thing. The last thing I want to do is have any woman who knows how to handle a firearm pissed at me, please let her know it was my mistake to make such a generalized statement. I wish the schools in my area had more teachers like your wife in them. 1)i graduated HS in 2007......hardly the Reagan era.
2) we dont even have to "arm" teachers...we just need to do away with "gun free zones"....allowing people who already carry to continue to do so....those people already work in the school system......no additional resources are needed.

I think wholesale arming of teachers is a stupid idea. But, I also think that gun free zones are stupid. Don't arm those that don't want to be armed. But, those teachers that take it upon themselves to seek out a license to carry, that train with their firearm, and take the responsibility to carry- don't disarm them while on school grounds. Not every teacher should be trusted with a gun. But, some should...

So the FBI refuses to go follow up when given all the details about a very specific very credible threat from a specific perfectly identified individual, who they had a full legal name, photos & general idea of where they were.
Then both the SRO and 4 other Law Enforcement officers decide to play cowards and let the killer go on his rampage and then wait till he had time to calmly leave and go grab a burger at the local McDonalds before rushing into the school and pointing their guns at the terrified survivors...

Totally different here. There was no restraining order or protective order in place. The officers violated their oath. no one can argue that.
Police rarely prevent tragedy, they react to it and can stop a situation from getting worse, but generally if the police ever get involved something has already happened. The argument in this case was stupid. there are no property rights because you have a TRO. But it does show that criminals never follow the law, so yeah we should ban guns because thatll be different. the criminals will definitely comply.
Why he did not respond I don't know, It's all very easy to have big Ideas after the fact, To be able to act under those conditions takes a certain type of person, someone who has never been faced with combat or been LE would not be the ideal choice, as for this guys back ground I don't know,
