Any users of FFS still out there?

Field Firing Solution. It's all I've ever used so I can't compare to others, but the features it offers are pretty impressive, although the interface could use some work.

I've been surprised at the lack of discussion on it.

Fairly knew to shooting but it seems it is mentioned quite a bit when dealing with ELR, together with Cold Bore. But for most of us constrained to shooting at much shorter ranges other apps such as Strelok, BallisticsArc, Shooter, Trasol, Ballistic AE, Hornady 4DOF, and AB all suffice as they are on much more readily available platforms. Put it on iOS or Andoid and sell it for $30 :)

FFS is the goto program for a serious long range shooter or a working sniper. Most casual users seem satisfied with a cheap app on a phone, as all they need is a trajectory. What would you like to change on the interface?

Just the OS choices that it could run on
Kind of interesting that a weakness is also a strength. Running on a legacy platform, Windows Mobile eliminates the smaller user friendly devices that we carry every day. On the other hand, it's not plagued by bugs that develop each time the device's operating system has an update that many of the other ballistics programs use. I hate the big, heavy Nomad with the tiny screen and stylus. I love I can depend on FFS to provide dependable outputs every time I use it.

FFS is pretty much all I use anymore and run it on both a Juno and Nomad. The Juno is relatively compact and has a good screen. When tethered to a LRF prefer the Nomad. Several of the guys I shoot F Class with are getting into the Ko2M game and we will be using FFS as the solver tethered to a 25C

I am a FFS fan. Its offerings in range cards, offsets wind vales for that range cards, LRF card generation and zero to ELR curves are not matched.

But it is worth acknowledging, that just like we sometimes point out deficiencies in other programs, that that does NOT matter to some shooting disciplines. The way that the current ELR stuff is being shot F-class like; the solvers have less value, because the FFP is always the same, the targets in a narrow band of distance the curves are tuned in that narrow range. Many of these guys don't seem to care if their gun zeros at 100 or are dead on all the way to the end. They may not even know the curve they just developed for 2500 doesn't work well at 500..

Just worth saying~

I have used FFS, and used it at KO2M last year paired with a vectronix, and will be using it again this year.

I don’t know about “solvers have less value” in the ELR game. FFS is ideal/perfect for the ELR game. First round hits is where it’s at. The game is tailored for success with a first round Hit.

Good luck

Diver:

Agree with statement. Even though it is KD targets when tethered with a Vectronix and atmospherics via kestrel the potential for parameter error is minimized which is an advantage over other systems.

Hi Chris,

Again, FFS fan here.. But did all the competitors show up, lay down and fire rounds for score? Or did some, get a few practice shots in? Maybe some, a couple of days of shooting? If one did, they had the opportunity to tune the curve correct?

Point well taken and believe that in fact may have been the case for some of the competitors.

Why no talk about it? Cause it just works! My Trimble is solid as a brick and the battery life is rediculisy long. The unit pairs with my Vector, grabs data from the kestrel for weather, and gives me spot on dope. All on a system built in the mid 90's.. Amazing the new stuff is still trying to catch up. As Chris, I used FFS last year at KO2M and faired out alright. I'll be running it again this year, I like it. As for an outdated program, doesn't bother me, I don't need anything in the field besides firing info and it gives me that. I've finally dug further into the program and began using it to kick out data cards based on DA, Thays a sweet feature.

Garrett.

FFS Masterrace checking in

There's not a ton of talk about it because when most people get into ballistic apps, they look whats on their phone and use those. While nothing wrong with them, they get you close, and that's fine for most shooters and/or they then refine the numbers themselves. Additionally, to even get into FFS you basically need to pay 300$ for the program (compare that to what Strelok costs) as well as run it on something like a Trimble; another couple hundred dollars.

FFS has quite a learning curve and I've traded a ton of emails with Cory about understanding aspects of it better even after watching all of the training videos on it 20 times. In short, only part of it is a ballistics app; there is so much more to it and once you get a grasp of how it all works together you start to come up with different ways to use things to your advantage.
