Suppressors Energetic Armament NYX Mod 2 Suppressor

I’m think I’m gonna go shooting for the second time today!

I shot the nyx along with a sparrow, TBAC 22, and Mask using standard velocity CCI 22lr and federal 17 hmr. In the full configuration It’s 1.7 oz lighter than the TBAC, which is pretty light itself. Performance is great. I especially like the short config on a 22 rifle. Didn’t seem like I was giving up much if any suppression.

How did it compare to those three sound wise in the long configuration?

I have a Sparrow that I like, the meter testing I've seen says I'm not really going to beat it's suppression by much on a .22 rifle with anything out there, so I've been looking at lightweight and modular cans, mostly for pistols. The Nyx (probably the Mod 1), the TBAC and the Q El Camino seem to be the lightweight front runners.

The only real downside I see to the Nyx is that they seem to use basic k baffles instead of click together baffles like other brands, so I'm guessing they will be a lot tougher to disassemble after getting leaded up.

I can’t tell any difference between them in long configuration. Previous to the NYX 2, I’d have chosen the TBAC just due to weight. The NYX 2 is significantly lighter though, and I’d choose it over the other three now. Probably play with it most in the short configuration as well.

Non shielded baffles were a compromise we needed to make to keep the weight where it's at.

We may think about a shielded baffles version in the future ... Another thing to add to the list!

I've found that if it gets really dirty, I pull both end caps, soak the whole thing in something like boretech carbon cutter, the slide the baffles out afterwards. If they are tight, a piece of 1/2" PVC pipe is usually a perfect fit to use as a push rod to slide the baffles out.

Always good to see company guys represented here.

I'm looking for a rimfire can to do double duty on rimfires and micro center fires, specifically a 17 hornet. So far, as far as I can find, only the mask lists 22 hornet. Can the NYX handle that kind of round with a 18inch-ish barrel?

17 Hornet shows a max pressure of 53, 600psi

5.7x28FN shows a max pressure of 50,000psi

I know that the EA NYX Mod 2 is rated for the 5.7x28. Not sure if they would warranty a 17 Hornet. I suppose you could call them.

Good god, how'd you find those numbers that fast? I've looked a bit and couldn't find the pressure numbers. I didnt realuze they were that close. I know most of the 22 cans are rated for the 5.7 now.

What should matter would be your residual pressure at the muzzle. The pressure at the muzzle of a 5" 5.7 is going to be much higher than the pressure at the muzzle of an 18" .17 Hornet and seems like total gas volume would be similar. It's hard to think of a reason why rifle length .17 Hornet would be a problem if 5.7 (primarily a pistol cartridge) is not.

Sorry I missed the 17 hornet question yesterday: worked a long day in the shop making Vox components.

We did the calculations on the 17 hornet vs 5.7x28.
Based on an 18" barrel, it looks like the 17 hornet would have a very slight bump in muzzle pressure vs an 10.4" SBR PS90, which is something we have shot a bunch with the nyx mod2.

Based on this, you should be OK using the 17 Hornet with the Nyx Mod2, so long as your barrel is at least 18".
Please be aware that this is only a calculated estimate: we have not physically tested the 17 Hornet on the Nyx Mod2.
