Despite fucking up the operation Koresh needed to be taken down. Why the FBI didnt just arrest this child molester while he was off compound is beyond me.

This from a 1993 Associated Press article on the siege:
There have been suggestions that ATF could have avoided the original bloody raid, in which several residents of the compound also died, by waiting for Koresh to venture outside the premises. People in the area had reported seeing him outside on several occasions.

News reports ″have greatly exaggerated how often he left the premises,″ Higgins said.

But even if Koresh had been arrested without incident outside the compound, Higgins said, ″we still had the problem that he was surrounded by 15 to 20 people who were equally violent″ and eager to carry on his work.

Troy said ATF never had Koresh under 24-hour surveillance because ″we would have blown the whole thing.″ An arrest would still have left the search warrant to serve and the weapons cache to find, Troy said.

That only says ATF, though. And how reliable their statements are/were is probably somewhat questionable. I started watching the miniseries last night and from it, I kinda got the impression that Koresh didn't leave the compound very often too.

My son's an FBI SAC... From what he tells me it was a BATFE operation, to begin with...When it went TU it was handed off to the FBI...He agrees with you, they should have nabbed him off-site. That is the way he has handled many of his operations...Unfortunately, when the FBI was brought in, Koresh was hunkered down in his bunker...There is a the 'rest' of the story, but I won't get into that...JMHO, YMMV

there was little doubt when it happened that there was other options that could have been used to avoid blood shed if the government cared at the time to do so just like ruby ridge never had to happen sadly it did and and nothing can bring any of those killed back and it will happen again , and again .

The Waco stunt was a political show-boat for the ATF to distract the public from the screw-up of Ruby Ridge. I'm glad (though too late) that point was emphasized in the new mini-series. Watching the Congressional hearing in the wake of the Waco killings showed the true colors of the anti-gun Dims. Chuck Skummer really shined.

I liked the miniseries- showed both sides but still omitted some major stuff. Like that Delta was there for one....
