I just got my TL3 action and would like to use my TT Diamond with it. I understand that ZA offers trigger timing service or send a different cocking piece but I would like to give it a shot since i am bored and handy with files. does anyone have an instruction on how to accomplish this task? illustration or video would be awesome. thanks in advance!

Measure the firing pin indicator with the bolt handle up, measure it with it closed. That difference is the amount you'll want to remove from your cocking piece. Match the angle thats there now, just move it back.
I think you can also tell zermatt how much its cocking on close and they can mail you one thats corrected for the difference.

thanks, spife. that is what I have imagined it to be but further reading got me confused. some take measurements of the pin protrusion when the bolt is out of the action and compare that to the protrusion when the bolt is fully closed. Ray@Zermatt posted in 2018 that TL3 pin protrusion should be around 0.90" when the bolt is out but then Reubenski posted where he had only 0.005" pin protrusion after timing. that is where it got confusing.

when you say bolt handle up, I assume in the "click" position when the cocking piece is out of the detent? about 1/4 turn clockwise in the action and not completely up?

here are my measurements. let me know if this is right.
pin protrusion when the bolt is out of the action: 0.50"
pin protrusion when the bolt is in the action after the "click"(up): 0.035"
pin protrusion when the bolt is all the way down: 0.038"

if my calculation is correct, I have 0.003" Cock on Close. what happens if that number becomes negative after taking more materials? is the pin protrusion measurement when to bolt is out of the action even relevant?

Based off your numbers DO NOT remove any material from your cocking piece. You actually have too little material right now. You need .012" added to be at neutral. If you experience light primer strikes you may need to get ahold of Zermatt and getting a cocking piece with more material on the face. I'd get a .020" additional which I think they have.

Forget about your .035" measurement. That measurement is irrelevant.

Good point, I didn't pay attention to which measurement was which, I wonder if @IPoutdoors just listed them backwards?

Anyways, @Mordamer do you agree with spife that the cocking piece should be at the same distance in both the cocked and uncocked positions?

Thank you! I will contact Zermatt.
