Rifle Scopes Scope for playing around with a Ruger American Predator in 6.5 CM

I am not a high end scope guy. Some day perhaps I will be but my skill level simply doesn't warrant it at this point.

The nicer scopes I have are 3 Vortex PST Gen. 1 6-24 scopes, an Athlon Ares 4.5-27 and a Zeiss Diavari 3-9.

I have this RAP in 6.5 CM to play around with and to try to stretch it out further distance-wise. Right now I have a Weaver Grand Slam 6-20 on it.

Any ideas for a scope with (hopefully) target turrets, zero stop, repeatability, at least up to 18X (or more) in the $200-400 range?

Agree on everything said above. Athlon is your huckleberry and Doug is your man! Btw, just out the same rifle in layaway and will be doing the same.thing in a month. I have about 500 .308 rds that need shot and don't have a 308 currently. Predator seemed to fit the bill for the price

If you can increase your budget a bit, the new Vortex Strike Eagle 5-25 has a lot of great features and hits far above it’s weight.

I ran one of these Cabela's Covenant 7 3-21x50 scopes on my 22LR rig for a while and they are good for the price. Glass is decent, about what I'd expect in the price range. Turrets are adequate but not great, again about what I'd expect in the price range. Reticle is a little busy but usable. It is what it is, a 34mm optic with good FOV and lots of adjustment range for pretty cheap $$. I got mine on sale for less than $300, but it's still not a bad choice at full retail. Cabela's no longer does the lifetime warranty, but the guy at my store says they'll still exchange it if it fails as long as they have them in stock. Athlon's or Vortex's warranty is certainly less risky.

Keep in mind if you go 34mm that you're going to pay more for the rings too. There's some good choices right around $100 (Athlon's offerings are nice, as are UTG Pro or XLR for a little less). For a little more $$ you get into the known good Seekins/Vortex lines. Then there are some new names in the market for 34mm rings that I've not had any experience with (Arken, Riton, Swampfox, etc).

Also, you'd really be better served by replacing the factory scope rail with a better quality unit from a reputable manufacturer.

I have a RAP in 6.5 Creedmoor that I started with also. I put it in a Magpul Hunter stock, put a 20 MOA rail, and added a muzzle brake. It's been a good performer for me, but it has led to other more expensive toys. Be warned.
