For all too long I have had a Gemtech Flash Hider on my GAP Bartlein barrel. I cannot remove it and even searched YouTube and Google. I even heated with a torch and tried hammering the wrench with a hammer. Actually the barrel started turning from the action and naturally I screwed it back into place and will check with guages before I shoot. Any suggestions. Thank you in advance

Do you know if there is carbon build up or was there locktite or rockset used on the threads?

A lot of boiling water.

I use a 3lb butter tub lean gun in it fill with boiling water, wait 15 minutes and repeat 2 more times.

When you pull it out work quick.

I like to do it outdoors so I can quickly dump over old water and quickly refill.

This will remove rockset. And not damage anything.

Thank you very much. I saw the procedure for rockset. I doubt I even used lock tite since it was temporary and left it on too many years. I think it is carbon buildup and not locktite, but it is possible it is the latter but blue only if at all.

I also saw a post that suggested going to a gunsmith and having him shave it down. I have the original integral brake so he can measure the length of the threads. We have a good gunsmith in town if I cannot do it myself.
I really appreciate the help and only my second post.

Well then maybe kroil or eds red may get in there to break the bond.

I have taken to using anti seze for temp stuff and rockset for can mounts so they stay put.

I hate froze up stuff with a passion.

We have freed up lots of parts with the kroil.

An easy way to boil your mount is to get a 3lb butter tub, pot or electrical boiling pot.

Find a place to lean the barrel in the tub (outside is best) in a corner.

Fill tub with boiling water, start new pot. Dump water replace with hot 3 times.

Normally it lossens up.
No overnite soak required.

The boiling water will not hurt anything if it fails to work and in that case probably not rocksett.

If your barrel spins off pull it and clamp it in a barrel vise. I would clamp it close to the muzzle. Apply alot of kroil.... let it sit and apply more liberally.... toss the barrel in a freezer for the night.... pull it out and quickly amp it up... heat the gemtech quickly.....

Plan this out in advance

I had a gunsmith put on a brake and he used Rockset. Later I asked him to remove it and he could not. He ended up cutting the brake off and threading the barrel back to original specs. I've heard that boiling water is the solution to this problem.
