Ketamine.....works wonders.

Doc

This was years ago, before ketamine was used much.
Honestly, I dont think anything but a full K-hole dose would do a thing.
I have given truckloads of K (great for kids on Ex) but only the big 350mg + doses would be enough for a bone marrow biopsy or aspiration.

I wrote up a complaint and I believe those are all done under the sedation of a CRNA with propofol now.
I freakin hate seeing people in that much pain when its easily avoided.

Well, for the first one, I had Fentanyl and Versed for the patient and they still screamed and remembered it (2 mg Versed, maybe 60kg patient).
I pushed for better sedation for subsequent ones.

Knowing what I know, thats why that story required a tissue.....
I've had a few of them done and believe me they hurt for almost 2 weeks.
I remember a doctor telling me that there was NO PAIN involved.
I said have you had it done to you before?
I made them get someone else once he admitted he never even performed the procedure before let alone have it done to himself.
Knocked out is the ONLY way to fly, problem with Versed is conversations.

Nothing like driving a pin into someone with a hammer and convincing the patient it's not going to hurt.

@Ravenworks

Does the needle/pin hurt more, or the aspiration of the marrow?
Seems my memory it was the aspiration always was horrible.

I remember a dude who was awake and had no veins and had to get an IO. Trauma patient with a crashing BP and needed access.
Someone flushed it without lidocaine.
He didnt like that either. The guy who wanted water 2 doors down shut up after hearing that scream through a closed door.....

Did an IO downrange. He wasn't responsive. I guess it was good for him.
