12rnd Billet AW magazine for BR size cartridges from Gray Ops

I have just seen a note on short action cushions website warning this magazine doesn’t work well with any 3 lug action or manners mini chassis.

So is this is a centre feed magazine and not an AW magazine?

The GrayOps mag is a double stack, double feed, just like an AW (which is why they show it installed in an AT-X). The note about it not working well in 3-lug actions is likely referring to 700 clones like the Terminus mentioned earlier in this thread, where there isn't a lug protruding downwards at 6 o'clock when the bolt is unlocked.

A good friend has been running a prototype GrayOps mag in his CDG for a while now (long before they were even announced publicly) and it's been 100%, but then the CDG was actually designed by Ted to work with AW pattern mags from the start.

I have used it in a CDG with 22BRA.Lone peak in 6Bra.And another lone peak in a dasher. All worked flawless.1 foundation stock and 2vision chassis’s.The lone peaks needed mag catch lowered slightly.

Both my buddy and I are having issues with them in our Zeus actions. Both fully pushed to against the bottom of the action (I tried looser as well). I’ve heard of another struggling with his Zeus as well, but another working fine with his Zeus. 3 different chassis models across this sample size of 4.

They work great with my Valor though, which isn’t a surprise given the creator of them runs curtis actions.

It’s unfortunate. I wouldn’t call it an issue with 60 degree actions. Just apparently the Zeus has issues, or maybe just in certain chassis?

Can someone tell me, if the mag works in a 2 Lug Action like Impact 737R, Zermatt TL3, ... ?
I´m thinking about a 6BR Repeater with a TL3 or Impact in Foundation Stock, so it would be nice to know, if this combination will work properly

Works fine in my AW cut TL3.

The receiver needs to be machined for the AW mags.

Thank you Guys, that is great to hear.
I´m located in Europe, if it will be a Impact 737R, i will make sure to get a new one with AW Cut.
LPA Actions are easy to get, the General Importer for Europe is in my Country, so they are easy to get.
My Preference right now is Zermatt, i like the mecanical Ejector and the possibility to swap the Bolt Head/Face

you might consider the American rifle company CDG. it has the 6 o' clock lug for stripping rounds from an AW mag. I had a 2 lug that ran AW mags, didn't work out as well.

I don´t know if the CDG is available. Brownells has ARC listed, but there is only 1 Action available, if even that. The CDG might be a nice action, but i´m not a fan of 3 Lug Actions. Most 3 Lug Actions i tired are way to stiff on opening the bolt. The last 3 Lug Action that i bought used got sold after 70 Shots, i hated how stiff it opend and tolerances were far to tight. I rather have a bolt that wiggles, but is smooth and easy to open than a 60" Bolt Lift that is stiff as hell and has no wiggle.

About 5k on one and 3 k on the other. Both are mid 200 serial number
I don't mean that brand, I mean specifically making 2 lugs work with aws
also to the other guy, this will be my first cdg but I've owned or played with the others except archimedes and they're all great. american rifle is not AI or whoever, different animal. you and me are after the same thing. this has a 70 degree throw and reportedly light lift. check out the thread here. I had all options known to man available to me and I chose the cdg over everything else, mainly because I'm an AW mag fan and that inertial ejector is sublime. Just makes everything easier and better.

A bolt that wiggles doesn’t have anything to do with the engineers allowable deviation from a nominal spec’d size. Also, who has a 60 inch bolt lift?

What action was this?

Oh man, i´ve typed it wrong, i´ve meant 60 Degrees, not Inch.
My Bad.

Most of the 3 Lug Actions i had myself or could try are too stiff for my taste, with a few exceptions.
Victirx for example has a easy lift and has more than 2 Lugs

Hey gents, I've followed this post and was hoping to see more CDG owners opinions on these new mags before taking the plung.

I'm really enjoying the CDG action, my 6br runs about 95% with the 12rd MDTs but I'd like to try one of these. The MDTs really struggle when fully loaded with the first couple of rounds because of the spring pressure I'm assuming and would like for them to run 100%!!!

I just built another CDG in 25 Creed and it feeds like dogshit, very disappointing. Running MDTs in it currently and plan on picking up an Accurate but hopefully GrayOps makes one for larger calibers as well as 223.

You’re good to go with the CDG. Use with confidence.

There’s a bit of a trick with the MDTs as well. Once fully loaded with 12, basically press down on the top round, toward the back of the round (primer side), compressing the mag spring 6-7 times. You’ll notice the bullet side rise a little as it essentially settles the rounds into the mag better. The first round will still feed with a little resistance but it’ll feed.

I have 2 CDG's in 6BRA and a TL3 6BR and 3 of the Gray Ops Dasher/BR mags....the mags run smooth and flawlessly in all 3 of my actions....Expensive but worth it IMO.

One trick I learned with a full 12rd MDT was to use my thumb on the end of the bolt to chamber the first couple instead of the bolt handle, this works great! It made a big difference but I'd like to be able to simply pop the mag in and focus on shooting instead of these "tricks" to make an MDT run!

Appreciate the tip and I think I'll try one of these new mags, appreciate the feedback guys.

Ted states multiple times that the MDT mags don't work as well as AW pattern mags. just buy the proper magazine for the system and you'll be happier. plus AW mags are 11 rounders.
MDT makes good stuff but I like plug and play.
the grey ops 12 rounders will be great, just soft as they're aluminum not steel. I plan on getting a couple grey ops next yearish for a 6br rebarrel.

It's not that I wouldn't have went that way from the beginning, the problem was AW mags wasn't available, now that they are becoming more so I'll definitely make the change if it fixes the problem.

We practiced this morning and a buddy loaned me his AW mag to try in my 25Creed and it ran 100%!!! HUGE upgrade over the MDTs!

AW magazines are night and day compared to AICS. Just think, there is 50% less feed lip bearing down friction across the case body. If I didn’t have to use AICS ever again I’d be happy.

I am a long term Zermatt TL3 user. Last year I went for a new build ARC CDG based, jumping on the AW bandwagon. Now I regret not having my TL3 AW-capable despite AICS Waters Rifleman mags (eary exit Dasher / BR version) from Australia are really good and that's all I use with my TL3 now. AI AW and Gray Ops in the CDG are both flawless and for me totally interchangeable. I still keep a second mag on my belt in matches but I forgot the last time I had to use it.

So even though my 6br has ran decent with the 12rd MDTs I ordered the Gray Ops, it should be here Thursday. It's a 12rd so I'm good.

I did buy 2 of the AW mags for my 25CREED but they are 10rds. Is there a "best" mag extension fir these??? We have several matches that have 12rd stages and I also like to always load an extra round for every stage incase of an issue (saved my ass more than once!).

those AW mags are actually 11 rounders. so at the end you could just slip the last round in, that's what I plan to do.

There is actually no mag extension for the AW mags as the bottom plate is welded on. True, there are guys who have cut the plate off and used one of the available AIAG mag extensions on the market to fabricate 12 or 13 round mags. Some even sell one here now and then.

Thanks, I haven't messed with the AW mag and didn't realize they was welded.

Hopefully I find one that's been modified as I really don't want to top feed on a 12rd stage! Thanks for the info.

I know we are on the Grey Ops threat. But what’s better about the TL3 for double the price?
