Accuracy International Picture Thread

I have my first ever match this Saturday. I shoot a lot at my property but this is different. Any advice from AI crowd? I am all ears.
Practice prone kneeling standing etc with your game changer
Practice getting into position quickly , finding NPA and dryfiring/firing

Get a data card I like the magnetic one in the for sale section
Make sure you have accurate drops for your rifle
Make sure you have a chamber flag
Wings or the pro gamer plate and square bag are useful

“Preshoot” each stage with your spotter if you have one. Can do this while helping spot hits for other shooters. Can see which side of plate people are hitting or missing on. Give wind clues

Have fun. Most people are very humbled at their first decent Prs match.

When in doubt. Bag it

Constantly remind everyone of the provenance of your rifle and how much it cost, without them asking you.
Every time you miss, mutter “phukin’ heat drift.”
Ignore those other nerds @xxflyingturtlexx …this is the only advice you need for a match.
You already have the most important thing locked in..looking cool. That’s the most important thing.

This. And also, instead of a shooting mat, especially if shooting mats are provided on the stage, roll out a red carpet to place your AI on before shooting. And bring some moist towelettes to cleanse any barricades before they touch your rifle. The ROs should do this for you but some of them may be noobs so best to being your own

1. Be comfortable shooting around 15x magnification for a majority of the match so you can see your impacts, misses and quickly find your targets. Too much magnification can be a problem.

2. Trust yourself and equipment so that when you miss you can immediately make the necessary windage / elevation hold adjustment.

3. After the match on the drive back home or the day after write down three skills you did well and three skills you need to improve. Then pick one of those skills from the improve list and just focus on that one skill for the next match until it is comfortable for you. Then pick the next one to work on, etc.

Shoot slow, focus on building a good position and getting good shots off. Don't be in a rush to get to all the positions and targets. Speed will come later but it will take WAY longer to correct bad habits than build right from the start. 3 hits out of 10 shots is the same as 3 hits out of 3 shots. 3/3 is deliberate, 3/10 is a lot of luck with a little skill.

Go with the mindset to learn and have fun.

Since I RO a lot this one is more for me.... if your name is called to be "on deck", fucking be on deck. No one wants to be waiting in 90+ degree weather for anyone's ass who couldn't prepare to go their turn.

This is a big one as an AI owner.... make sure everyone knows they are poor and they missed because it wasn't an AI. They will come to realize the BS the prs community has fed them and see the errors in their life.

These were to the T everything happened to me today! All of these you listed were running through my head on the way back.

Well; i did not come last; 3rd from last😂

I will keep working on supplemental gear and dry fire dry fire dry fire.

Dudes were super helpful; and like many of you said; small things like picking up brass; spotting for others, and many gestures break the ice.

I was consistently out of time; but placed a lot of decent shots. Distances i regularly shoot became so difficult initially; but towards the end of the match i was getting in the pace of things. Lots to work on

It will come. Like everyone said the jitters go away and speed will come as you learn. I'm not sure if you're MDs do this but mine stopped once PRS got bigger here.... some stages are borderline unfinishable. It's meant to force you to speed up and screw up. I've been at this for longer than the PRS and NRL existed and every so often I still don't get to the end of a stage.

Don't overwhelm yourself though, pick 1 or 2 things that would help you the most and work on them until your next match and then reevaluate. Trying to bite off too much at once is going y hurt you

The latest threads and almost available Lapua brass and available Lee collet die has me thinking of trying a 300 WSM setup eventually for my ATX

Anyone run a 300 WSM in AI? (I know some do)

Any magazine issues?

Been thinking of getting another 300 WM or 300 PRC and trading out my ATX. But the 300 WSM has me interested again

Stay with what you got man.

Don’t go chasing the latest and greatest. 308 and 6.5 creed will do it all, won’t burn up a barrel, and you already got two proven rifles….

I have a bunch of 300 PRC brass yet from when I had my AXMC. May get another one someday. I see Lee makes a collet die for that now as well
Bro just build another rifle

Probably gonna get flamed but AI has its places but you could build a nice 300 PRC with an Impact or an Origin with a prefit for quite a few dollars less

Don’t hate me

Not hating. Been thinking of a terminus build. But this is the AI thread. And I have an ATX that I’m on the fence on keeping. So the WSM would just be another option for it

AI guys: do you remove your bbl to clean or use a bore guide to keep crap out of action?
If I have to clean the brake simultaneously, I remove the barrel; plug the end with a PVA device, and soak the bore and chamber.

I still remount the barrel to the rifle and swab everything out using a bore guide.

So I always use a bore guide.

I also always clean the inside of the action thoroughly to keep the bolt smooth.

I do both. Proshot rods have narrow enough handles to flex over my AT’s buttplate (or alternatively, fold the stock), and @pfl338 makes some awesome barrel-only bore guides for when I feel like removing the barrel.

I use Possum Hollow bore guides when I don’t remove the barrel.

But why tho lol
Honestly it just makes me feel good

Is it needed not really. I just keep the rod centered with my hand

But when I remove barrels or cans from the end it’s my SOP to install a thread protector. Before even setting it down

My luck is to drop it or turn and wack the threads off my bench, chair or ceiling fan. This way it stays protected. This specific thread protector allows you to handle and clean the barrel with the thread protector on. I then remove it to clean the chamber area and wipe excessive solvent off

I can’t have a 300, I can’t have a bore guide/thread protector

You guys are just mean this week 🥺

I mean you can do what ever you want just never heard anyone using a bore guide when the barrel is pulled. Thought maybe you used it to the rod centered when it's chucked into the 7axis Dremel
